Azusa Minibike Predator 212 engine blew up
The engine finally gave up on the Predator 212-powered Azusa minibike while making a video. Pulled the engine apart to see if I could repair the problem.

@@Black66 Your definitely hitting guru status and I thought you once mentioned you used to race karts? Have you ever actually put eyes on a failed flywheel in your time with small engines? It's like bigfoot to me. Often talked about, never seen.

@@igokarts4510 Thanks! Ya, I raced karts back in the 80's .My dad had a small kart shop. There is a couple pictures in the community tab. I have never personally seen a flywheel come apart.

Thats insane but what really shocks me is a 22lb spring broke a 5.5mm valve iv got 26lb spring and billet retainers and stock split keeps on a 5mm valve stem and she just finished her second year together unfortunately my block is what is failing on my engine as it's got tons of stress fractures around the jug and top of the block

surprising there's little damage to the head and piston. dropped a valve in a kawasaki bayou and it completely demolished both

Whenever I have a build where I have to use the slip on retainers I buy an extra exaust retainer and use it on the intake side as I like the fact that it slips on and has a lash cap that locks it in place I figure it adds a little extra insurance that it won't fall off

Same thing happened to one of mine. But my piston sent my valve out the top of the head lol. Put a new head on it and like new again👍

At that speed I would install a Steering Stabilizer! Crank it from 0-10 at least 5 or better.🤔

I was curious about the carburetor on these little engines do the majority of these engines have the same Mounting for the carburetors, like will a mikuni for the 212 also fit a tilliston 212 or for a 3hp engine ?

This is my new favorite channel, I’ve always wanted to build a little engine and I now have a 212 pred. And a gx390, I’m going to build the 212 for a drift trike. And the gx390 for a go cart! Well let’s hope I have the skills to get it done lol. Love the channel, very informative for sure!

How many hours do you think you had on that engine? I've got one built up 236cc engine right at 70 hours. Zero maintenance but oil changes. Really curious how long it'll be before it dies. I've always wanted to know how long the life expectancy of one of these engines is when putting out multiple times the factory power.

@@Black66 my predator has 100+ hours on it right now, taken out on huge trips, 20+ miles out of my town, valve float constantly. I must have lucked out hard with this pred engine because it's done me well! I'm building a new one over the winter for the GPS 180 in Texas, and I can't wait to tear this one open and see the damage haha! Great video!

@@WyFoster Running VM22 carb, exhaust, and the governor didn't work out of the box 😂. Gosh I hope this one gets to 600 hours, I was gonna put it on a dirt bike for a little project later this year. This new one I'm building Is getting a stage 2 racing kit, so it'll be cammed, valve springs, flywheel, the works!

I bought what looks to be this same Azusa frame a few years back, but just really started testing out a couple roadside find motors on it. It has those same “winged” mount brackets on the frame near the back sprocket but I I just now realized during your muffler re-install that they must be for what looks to be a tensioner for the whole rear wheel assembly? I’m currently using one of those bolt-brackets for a roller-tensioner, but that looks much more robust than the spring and roller tensioners. That bracket in front of the rear sprocket that mounts on those three frame-brackets, does it have anything to do with tensioning the chain or is it a dust cover for the wheel-bearing? Thanks! Edit: Wait… It just occurred to me that tensioning wouldn’t work through that method haha. It’s a brake drum isn’t it?

I've always ran 212 hemi engines, and both valves get a lash cap. I noticed you didn't put one on the intake valve, is that right on these non-hemi heads?

Ya got real lucky valve didn't punch hole n piston,,I have the Gx 160 head on mine n put the stainless valves n retainers n to try n keep that from happening

You didn't buy performance valves, your mistake. 32 to 3600 rpm is one thing 8000 is another, you either spent the money or you DID NOT!!!
