Okay I know it says 242 but I literally can’t find any instructions or videos in how it goes in. Because a 242 goes down and up instead of front to back! Please can anyone show me how for my ZJ
We do not have a kit for the ZJ yet (it is in testing right now). The 242 install is the same as the 231 in the XJ, just with a longer upper link plate. And while they may have come with some of the same components, the ZJ and XJ are different in this regard.
Our design has the rod at its longest for the application. However we have run into both XJs that have worn motor mounts or are slightly out of spec (the infamous built in 96 on a friday XJs). Most times we find that the kits get installed a bit backwards, or worse, we find a knockoff kit that was not copied correctly. If your kit does not have our graphics and name on it, its a fake. Find the email address on your instruction sheet and send us a photo of how you have it setup, we can advise :)
I own european 2.5 diesel XJ with manual AX-15 and NP231J t-case...today I lost half a day trying to figure out how to install it...what ever I tried I couldn't do it properly...there is simply not enough space between upper lever and bottom shaft that's coming out of t-case. I'm sure I did everything right, checked 100 times, I'm sure I set up the shifting handle inside the vehicle in the same position as t-case shaft but the golden link is too long (max shortened) I dislocated the blue part following your instruction by puncturing the middle pin and then I managed to install it somehow but now I don't have enough movement to engage the 4L...everything works fine, first three positions shift nice but can't reach the last one :S Looking from inside the car, when the shifting handle is down in 2H t-case is also in 2H, I pull it once and it engages 4H normally (it shows the AWD light), next position should be N, but the handle engages N in last position where 4L should be :\ Did anyone have similar experience?
Did you see our video (linked in the instructions and on the website, although a recent batch of 50 or so instructions printed without the link) on adjusting for a 5 speed using the 3rd tab interface? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-od64eiC7XsI.html&ab_channel=AzzysDesignWorks
I have a 2 inch lift and a t case drop. The threaded rod seems to be too short for me even wound all the way out. Jumps into part time 4wd randomly when I have the shifter in 2wd
Lifts (with a few exceptions) are not changing the distance between the tcase and lever, we have seen some 96XJs having the floor pan shifted one way or the other. Email us a photo of how its currently setup. If you are running a 231 kit on the 242, this could be an issue as well.
I think I may have my linkage adjusted incorrectly because it try’s to pop out of 4 low when going down hill and doesn’t fully engage in 4hi at times. 2001 Jeep xj Any words of advice or suggestions
Hey AJ. So we actually have a ZJ in the shop right now and are working on getting a kit figured out for them. Keep tuned in and we will send out an announcement when that kit is available.
@@Azzysdesignworks I took out old linkage and left the bushing and wobble rod in to seal the transmission hole all I need is linkage from shifter to T case if all transfer cases are the same wouldn't your current linkage work?
No--the differences lie in the geometry between the shifter and the case, especially the throw distance and angles with a 249 inside the ZJ. We're working on it; with each model having the drivetrain sit in the vehicle slightly different than the others, and multiply that by options of engine and transfer cases offered, and take that variant across multiple years...it's a process.
Yes, either kit will work with a dropped transmember. In our experience, running one of those puts stresses on the front driveshaft, and contributes to vibrations at the case itself. We would recommend if you use our kit with one, to use loctite medium strength threadlocker on the turnbuckle to secure. As always, spare parts are available in our shop too : www.azzysdesignworks.com/shop/spare-parts
We have one designed and made that fits the 242 + 4.0 ZJ, and are testing it with a few V8s. The biggest delay is getting parts made, our adjustment rod manufacture is behind, and rods we hoped to receive a month ago are just shipping this week.
@Azzysdesignworks I was wondering, is there something fundamentally different about the 249? Or just different lengths? I don't mind buying an adapter and trying to modify it, or even making my own, as long as I'm not going to break my t-case from messing around 😅
@@Drivin_Sideways It all comes down to the movement of the input shaft on the tcase. We just were not able to work out a good solution for that case, and did not see the market in trying to make a more complicated one for a case that we did not feel was as popular for offroad applications.
