I was taught 8 Step Praying Mantis for about 27 years. All the time Sifu Chan was teaching me, he kept saying that I should understand the basics of Bagua to complete the style. I never quite connected that reasoning and the basic movements with Babu Tanglang Quan but followed what I was taught the best I could. Just watching Master Song-Li for the first time in this short video has somehow clicked and I can see exactly what I was being taught and now it just seems to make sense. I cannot believe just seeing this video has opened up my understanding in and instant and connects the dots with my training. I wish I could thank her in person and I'm about to call my teacher over in Taiwan just to discuss. Thank you, so much!!
The best thing about studying different kung fu styles (and sometimes different martial arts from different countries) is that your mind will automatically work to fill the gaps in your current knowledge. For example: someone who trains in Bajiquan will naturally feel its limitations and when seeing a demonstration of Piquazhang they'll feel drawn to it, feeling how it's going to open new, great possibilities to their understanding and mastery of their style. This works with a lot of different styles, mostly because a style is nothing more than the development of a concept. Tanglangquan is about capture and control, Baguazhang is about evasiveness, Zuiquan is about deception, and so on. And yet, these are just the beginner's level understanding of each concept. There is a lot more to be discovered when you actually *mix* martial arts with concepts, not moves, that aid your primary concept of your fighting style. This is something I wish I knew right away, but senseis and sifus don't say this, and maybe a lot of the time they just don't know. It took me 35 years of studying to understand this simple thing, and I'm just getting started learning "for real".
Wow! She is one of the best Baguazhang practitioners I’ve ever seen. I’m primarily a Wing Chun player, but wonder if some of the Baguazhang footwork would not compliment it.
I’m primarily a Wing Chun and Xing Yi Quan student and I absolutely love Baguazhang. I feel like it can be possible to switch between linear and circular methods, I have heard that some schools teach both Xing Yi and Bagua together which I find pretty neat! 😁
And not only the trained body. Bagua is cultivated from human original nature. It’s difficult because most people are very far removed from their own nature. This is a powerful video.
I have trained in martial arts for over 37 years ( Jujitsu / Kenpo foundation) and I can see that this woman is outstanding in many areas! Much respect 💮
Whether you have the skills to triumph over this warrior, or not. You would, surely, show her the respect that is deserved! She has decades of training behind her strength, power, speed and graceful movements.
Steel wrapped in silk. A true master of the 8 diagrams fist. Alternate techniques due to distance, transitions, varied applications and perfect execution a true master. 🙏
It's an honor and a great priviledge to see Sifu Song-Li demonstrate with such precise technique and great passion for the fighting arts. I am reminded of another master, Shihan Lean Garbutt, in the Fuji Ryu JuJutsu system...also very dedicated and passionate about the fighting arts. I am deeply inspired...respect to all!
@@user-00dog Historically, traditional Korean costumes are white and exposed nipples. Why do you not wear real Korean traditional costumes. South Korea's traditional culture and history (including historical TV series) are fake. Most of them are directly plagiarized in Chinese history and culture.
This channel is a gem in martial arts world... I've learnt about so many different martial art philosophies and schools that I didn't know previously at all.
I just love Song Sensei's energy and way of teaching. She's very welcoming and humble. I'm learning so much just from watching her demonstrations on this video -- Chinese women developed a great gift and gave it to the small bodied people of the world, forever I'm thankful. Xiexie Sifu! Freedom to All Oppressed, Uhuru
I just came home from a karate class feeling small and discouraged - I won’t get them down their way- I can do it this way - To-train under you, is very fortunate for your students. Thank you for sharing, A truly beautiful show of martial arts This master instructor is amazing
Been studying, training (started in 1958) and doing a bit of teaching…along the way and every time watch Kuro-Obi World my eyes are opened to amazing new martial arts skills. Thanks for your wonderful work!
@@sportmuaythaiv1045 Traditional martial arts dealt with real life and death situations! Modern martial arts with rules, judges and boundaries have their place but have little ‘real world’ application! Having spent over 20 years as a DT instructor for a police academy the reality of teach police how to arrest, protect and serve using the traditional Tao/Do is superior to the sport based MA. Our group of DT instructors have had numerous ‘sport based’ martial arts trained cadets fail in our ‘real world’ training practice. Your path is your Tao/Do and please enjoy and continue but disregarding the ‘old school’ ways as quaint is missing the mark…🙏
In Aikido the spinning technique seen in the beginning of the sparring is called kaiten nage. She is right that these spinning technique are perfect against stronger opponents. It is one of the strategies of Aikido too:"what if you consider yourself always weaker? Use gravity, because nobody is stronger than gravity!" Very good teacher this lady
Love the way she is teaching with all her heart and beautifull movements. I love Wing Tsun and beeing practice for many years but to see her movements its like to breath fresh air and chi. Would love to have her as Sifu to bring her amazing skills and fresh kung fu to Europa and the US. Cool Lady my honest respect would be awesome to come in touch with her.
This is real Kung Fu. She is fast. Much better than most Wing Chun Sifu. Baa gua palm style has some very practical footwork that I learned from another youtube channel. Basically, you circle around your opponent's blind side and keep attacking and pressuring the blind side. If your opponent has a front-rear stance, your opponent ends up not being able to hit you. It is very useful fighting against boxers or Muay Thai.
You can see that she has been training every day for most of her life. So much body tonus and control! Like a prima ballerina. Which western Sifu could spend so much time on training? Also, Wing Chun students often forget to do enough leg training. But a powerful stance requires strong legs and a strong body. You seem to fight with your arms, but it is actually the whole body that makes the moves.
This is why when baji quan and bagua zhang are combined, it will be devastating. Those two styles complement each other just like harmonious husband and wife. If your basic is baji quan, you need to learn bagua zhang. If your basic is bagua zhang, you need to learn baji quan.
Mine was Sanuces Ryu and incorporates the strikes palms and of nerve and joint technique of Bagua for a superb urban self defense system (Bomani Jujutsu).
Excellent display and technical breakdown of those arts, I especially loved the muchimi with the sword. I can see where karate took that principle and applied it to their bujutsu
I am learning baguazhang love it. I am into all sorts of martial arts. I took Wushu, Taekwondo,Aikido, Taichi, Baguazhang I am now learning ( Baguazhang is basically the 8 sided Triagram)
Wow - she really makes it look so easy and graceful, but there's obviously a very deep well of practice and experience to allow that. Extremely impressive! Also, I kind of feel bad for the poor blue belt - he has no chance! :)
Grande Tamotsu Miyahira ! Abrazo desde Barcelona.
