Follow along as the Champaign Lady B-17 retoration project continues to make history alive. This B-17 Flying Fortress project has been a work in progress for over 10 years. A group of volunteers continues to work hard to bring a piece of flying history back to life. Located at the Grime Airport in Urbana, Ohio, you will see that this is a hidden treasure.

I visited the museum at the end of December 2020. A nice bunch of folks working on this plane. Very friendly and informative. This is truly a labor of love. They are about 15 years into an estimated 7 year restoration with a long way to go.

I just retired from NJ. I've been enjoying our videos Dewey. Especially these (other than work) videos. Those guys are doing fantastic work. Fabrication is a hobby of mine so this was way cool, thanks.

Is the plane being restored to fly, or will it be static display only ???

William, they are building the B-17 to fly. They operate a B-25 now and hope to have the B-17 flying in the future.

Hi Dewey Great video I had the opportunity to see “Aluminum Overcast” B-17 when they flew it down to Tamiami Airport KTMB some time ago I even uploaded a little video to You Tube of it while I was testing my first GoPro (No comparison to your videos ) They alsobrought down a Ford Trimotor. Hello Darryl, I havent seen Capt Moonbean since like Thanksgiving time. Honestly I haven't been working for over a month. My mother has been very sick for over a month and that has taken priority over everything in my world. I still dream about the sky and I have been able to go up in my Champ so I can clear my head from all the difficult things. Thanks for watching.

Just stumbled upon this video and very interesting thanks for taking the time to show us round the workshop. Just wondered about the history of this plane, was it a bone yard wreck or something? Has it ever flown since the war or is it a total rebuild from a crash etc.. thanks... Why are they building it in shiny aluminium when they were always green with a blue and white star in the original war footage

Later Models weren't painted. Paint is weight. Towards the end the war, Allies had Air Superiority so Camouflage wasn't needed.

I hold three certificates, one, Auto paint and Body, two, Machining and three, Drafting. Are you looking for anyone? I'm not cheap, but I am available! (okay, okay, for a chance to work on a B-17, I'm pretty cheap too!) You said something about a link that you were going to put in, but I didn't see it. Could you post it again?
