Eyyy! It's the Memphis Belle!!! The story of this plane is one of the many phenomenal tales told by history. While it isnt as impressive as "Old 666" and "Charlie Brown", the Memphis Belle was one of the few, if only (i think) bombers to complete a full tour and return home with all of her ten-man crew intact. And a tour back then for bomber crews was about 26 missions/flights.
Actually got to get inside a B-17E. Cramped. My car’s interior is much larger. Think shoulder to shoulder. Waist gunner position must have been a real bitch at altitude.
No, but fortunately the original aircraft still exists and is undergoing restoration for display at the Museum of the USAF at Wright-Patterson AFB. That aircraft is known as the Movie Memphis Belle and is part of the collection of the National Warplane Museum, based in Geneseo NY, south of Rochester. It is a common sight on the airshow circuit.
If I'm not mistaken this is Liberty Belle she is painted to look like Memphis Belle I saw her in person a few years ago it was flying and they parked it and let everyone look at her touch it and walk through the interior was pretty impressive
