At a Chicago Air & Water show in August, about 25-years ago, the B-1 requested a vector for a marshmallow shaped cloud, pulled up some serious speed, nose up 45° or more through the cloud. A million people made a complete "Oh" sound at the same time as we could hear the B-1, but couldn't see it.
@@PurpleDreki By Jimmy Carter canceling the whole program in 1977 due to cost and they felt it wasn't needed at the time and they had started building the B2. They didn't want to spend the money on both. Fortunately Reagan renewed it a few years later.
I saw one of these taking off in full AB down in Key West and it had to be the loudest thing I ever heard. Maybe louder than pairs of F-15Es taking off.
A few weeks ago a B1 flew low over my state and keep in mind the B1 is my favorite bomber And what happens? I missed it by like a minute I really hope EAA brings one in for Airventure 24
Keep the B1 in service. Just like the B52. Update the aircraft and it will cost so much less than military industrial complex says. Yes it’s old but most enemies fear it. Bad to the bone
