@@dirt3855 I know. What they don't realize is that one day they will be elderly, and I can only imagine how their children will treat them. I'm from Generation X, but I don't have children. We only have ourselves for raising the youth of today with their sense of entitlement. This is what participation trophies, and not wanting to hurt their feelings has caused.
I've always liked the B-52's. i forget that Fred and Kate Pierson both grew up in New Jersey which is so cool cuz the rest of the band came from Georgia. But my cousin Rilo got me into them when I was a little kid cuz growing up in Harlem, we weren't around a lot of rock music, unless some miracle happened where we were exposed to it by an applicable source. He wanted to learn guitar cuz he was a huge fan of Living Colour, so one of the first songs he learned on the acoustic my mom bought him for his 10th birthday was "Rock Lobster". Dude was able to go from not playing any guitar ever before to, playing that song flawlessly within like 3 months. Not bad for 10 years old, but when he told me about the B-52's, I looked them up and saw Love Shack, Roam, and all the other music videos I could find until youtube came out over a decade later. So I'm grateful my cousin somewhat got me into them. They're a great band with their own niche of sound and image. Fred is my favorite member because even though he really doesn't sing, he more somewhat raps/spoken word speaks I guess you can say, he's such a staple of their strength and creativity. Rilo also had a thing for Cindy cuz he loves tall blonde women lol
I remember reading an old B-52's interview for a print magazine and the reporter said something that stuck with me. He said that the members of the band were mostly shy and somewhat introverted. Which surprised him because he expected them to be party animals. But yeah, in this interview we can see that the members are very chill when they're off stage. Not trying to be a "character" like some other bands usually are.
These are like the nicest band ever, they're so cool and laid back and fun, i love the way they dance when they perform, they enjoy themselves. Such a shame about Ricky Wilson, his guitar is some of the best I've ever heard, you hear everyone talk about Hendrix or whoever else, but personally that's some of my favorite playing. I bought my first B52s album last year and it was during quite a difficult time for me and i just went down to the country for a while and listened to it the whole time, it lifted me up --- they're now part of my favorite bands top 10 list. Also Cindy and Kate are so beautiful.
@@klwthe3rd It is their most commercially successful album, but artistically i much prefer Wild Planet and The first album. That Ricky Wilson guitar and Kate's organ backing up all that campiness just really do it for me. But i do enjoy cosmic thing a lot too.
First 2 albums By Far their best. Whammy is ok but not like first 2. I had Wild Planet on 8 track in 80. Then got the first one. Critics agree w me so check them out!
One of the best albums of the last 30 years. Few albums can be called perfect, mature, inspired, vocally and musically flawless start to finish... This is one of them. maybe Police Synchronicity could be on that list. ?
The Police album, or any of their others would be older than 30 years. In fact Synchronicity, the youngest album of theirs, is already 37 years old as of 2020. Their first three releases are all 40 plus.
So do i. I only heard of them on 1989 while on the US ARMY in then West Germany. Fell for Cindy and sing a lot of their songs even to this day especially Roam even at work. My co-workers get a kick out of. Now their in their late 60's and early 70's how crazy is that. Their 20's years older than me damn that dates me but love the group.
Holy smokes I really enjoyed this interview. Something about the audio seems a little awkward, but the interview got a lot of great stuff out of them. They're so wonderful.
Didnt like the 52s during this time......but now 30+yrs down the road....i can appreciate what this group has contributed to the sound of that time...maybe its just nostalgia of my faded youth??? Early 90s was when i started listening to things out of my normal comfort zone...
Oh WOW, what a spectacular glimpse into the band. When I get to HEAVEN I want to spend eternity being a B-52's groupie and kiss Keith Strickland. Southern accents are seductive.
I"ve said it before,and i say it again, Wild Planet was my favourite Cassette, (which i played so much i wore the tape out!) LOL ....but now we've gone digital i get all these wonderful tracks back (and video to boot!), Awesome!!!
I was not a fan of the COSMIC THING album when it was first released. Now I am ADDICTED to the album. Love and appreciate it so much more now than I did then.
I remember as a kid back in 79 when their album came out.. A friend asked.. Do you like them?.. And I said.. "yes" I love them.. Rock lobster came out on the radio? I was hooked.. Dancing too :)
Ha, first time watching this video -- I've always thought I heard a little of Yoko in Kate's singing and then she says that Yoko Ono has been of many artists who have influenced her. I'll be darned ..... cool.
@Amos Stubbs Keith was always gay. Kate was always straight, until she in her 50's met Monica, and they are married now. Kate said that she doesnt feel gay or bisexual, but she is only into Monica

Even without hearing Kate state they are environmentalists, it was obvious from several of their songs and statements made at concerts they are, makes me love them even more.
There is something about that Georgia Accent when spoken softly and articulately like Kate and Cindy that is pleasure to listen to. Felt the same when I first heard Edie Brickell speak with her sweet Texas Drawl.
I’m trying desperately to rationalize it...it’s possible they used that clip winkingly because the Pixies look (purposely) bored, as Black Francis refused to lip sync and play-act enthusiasm for a music video. That’s the best-case. I don’t even want to THINK about the other possibilities. Funny coincidence, though, cause I feel like them and the B-52s probably have more in common with each other than any other band in the world. Lots of parallels lyrically, and that’s just half of it. And I wonder...do they ever think about each other??
To be honest, I've still got a big crush on both these ladies. Love the band,but still crushin on Cindy and Kate...cute as f. With good Southern gal standards.
That's crazy. They showed The Pixies as the example of music going straight down the tubes. Really?!?! That's one of the best bands ever and at their peak in 1989. Why not show New Kids on the Block? Now, that would have been appropriate.
