This song is unique, it has its own atmosphere. It doesn't sound like anything else from 80s, expect the tehnical limitations, which, at the same time made this version so powerful.
I bought this the week it was released. Great song, great artwork, sexy Some Bizarre label, etc. All their singles were great... But I have not heard this mix so thank you for it! Love it!!
Anyone from the eighties get that glazed look when you are ,say ,out shopping and some quite familiar inimitable strain synth notes start to play ..... you know you wanna start dancing..
Fascinating to hear this. I'd only ever heard the later version (think that was 1982 or 1983?). A really great and woefully under-appreciated band. Will have to try and google what these guys are doing now.
Yes, the newer slicker version of this song as well always reminded me of a Flock of Seagulls with the delayed guitar chords and a similar bass line. Listen to this then AFOS I Ran and you will see (hear) it. I hear Human League similarity with the old synth sound.
our local station in those days once play a mixed version of nowhere girl and I ran together with the guitar chords perfectly merged and it was awesome. too bad I didn't record that with my cassette recorder.
This is the original Dead Good version from 1980, the most well known version is the 1981 Some Bizarre version that was produced by Steve Brown and there was also a 1985 version on the Warners album 'Forever Running'. All different, all good………..
Nowhere girl you're living in a dream, Nowhere girl you stay behind the scenes, Nowhere girl you never go outside, Nowhere girl 'cause you prefer to hide. Every day, every might In that all old familiar light You hang up when I call you at home. And I try to get through Ant I try to talk to you But there's something stopping me from getting through. Nowhere girl what you had you need, Nowhere girl all functional and neat, Nowhere girl in self-imposed exile, Nowhere girl a martyr-like denial. Every day, every might In that all old familiar light You hang up when I call you at home. And I try to get through Ant I try to talk to you But there's something stopping me from getting through. No way girl [Repeat: x 4] Every day, every might In that all old familiar light You hang up when I call you at home. And I try to get through Ant I try to talk to you But there's something stopping me from getting through. No way girl [Repeat: x 4]
What are you fools saying? it doesn't sound at all like Depche Mode, A Flock of Seagulls, New Order or The Stranglers. At all, unless you just started listening to 80's music yesterday in which case it might sound similar to you. This song does sound a little like early Human League though.
@derpestarzt I THINK HE'S REFERRING TO THE SYNTH FROM TEH FIRST ALBUM sPEAK AND sPELL. I SORTA HEAR IT AND i'M A SEVERLY DIE HARD dm FAN...IT'S qUITE THE AMALGAM. I LIKE THSI VERSION BUT I HATE IT CAUSE I LIKE IT!!
