B&P's EMD SD45's. That un-mistakable deep drone at Carrollton, Mt Jewett. 6/08/2009

We are at Carrollton NY. as we watch a south bound B&P freight pass over the WNY&P's ex-Erie mainline. Turn up your volume, and enjoy the deep drone of the three SD45's as the engineer notch's the locomotives out. The crew spots us, and gives us a friend blast on the horn. The second clip was taken as it passes the ex-B&O position lights at the south end of the siding in Mt. Jewett, PA. At one time, there was a connection here with the Knox Cane Railroad. Sad to say, that this is all been tore out for a few years now, and hard to detect there was a railroad in there at all. Video clip was taken 06/08/2009. Thanks for watching.

My all time favorite locomotive was the EMD SD40 -2, but EMD SD45's are right up there neck and neck with them in either their original or Dash 2 models. I especially loved the original with the flared radiators. Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of 4 stroke engines as well, but when it comes to the sound of railroading, modern or the past, the muscular sounds of the engines in the SD45's are what come to my mind the most. I have got to see them in the east, in the midwest hauling monstrous tonnage and slugging it out with the mountains (and handily winning) in the southwest along the AT&SF in their splendid blue's or yellow bonnets. Hope to see and hear more of these! Thanks for the share and good job! :)

From what I understand, most still had there 20 cylinders, but the B&P did what the WC did. Cut them back. I did help them last a good many years, and still had that beastly heavy 20 cylinder sound... Thanks for watching...

Do those color position light signals, as seen near the end of this video, still function? Have they been decommissioned? It appears to me that they were dark, not functioning.

It’s still around but the SD45R’s have left, replaced with ex-CR SD60M’s and I’s.

We got into this position because we heard a e/b NS coal train had just met the WNYP west of us. We where hoping that we would catch the NS going under. Didn't work out. The B&P train went south, just between the east and west moves on the WNYP. Just figures! LOL. We opted to chase the BP south at that point, and caught it several times. Don't know if that was a good move, as NS no longer runs coal trains on the WNYP. Thanks for watching...

I like the angle you chose there in Carrollton. I was there in 2010 and at the time the WNY&P westbound to Falconer usually ran right before the B&P crossed over, in fact, it was not uncommon to see them passing each other on the parallel east of Salamanca. Unfortunately, the woods ruins getting a good shot of the latter. I guess on a day when things are off, it's possible to see a meet at the bridge.
