Like your vids Jack, I am from Cleveland and remember the Bessemer, especially being around Conneaut when trains were being loaded and leaving going south to Pittsburgh.
1990 seems so very close, yet it's been 30 damn years. Just think about it. The Soviet Union still existed, the Queen was still in her 60s, the United States had only recently elected their 41st president. How time flies
Times have certainly changed on the Bessemer. I shot here a couple weeks ago with an SD70M-2 on each end with 50 loads and they were moving along at around 25 MPH. I can only imagine what it would have been like to see this in person
I have to say : those are absolutely top quality videos you shot back in the early 90s. The sound quality, the location, the lighting, the perspective, the composition, the subject, everything is top quality and well thought of. In every single video you uploaded. Well done.
That is a SD-18, B&LE was one of the few to buy them, they were not turbocharged, in fact B&LE had no EMD's turbocharged until they bought the tunnel motors.
They're working hard, but I would say they are making good time, not really a crawl. I'm guessing maybe 15-20 MPH. Love those old EMD's, but SD40's are the best!
You can't beat the SD40's. I am going to put out a couple series soon, of just SD40's at work. I'll see what kind of interest it draws. Thanks for watching...
the sd 38 and sd40 are the same everything except 38 only has the basic blower on it , where as the 40 has added the turbochargers,,,otherwise they are identical.
