Hello Jay, a question. Now that Spitfire is out have you/would you consider creating another that represents "Little Friendlies" escorting the heavy bombers during a mission. Spits, P-47, P-38 and P-51 variants escorting B-24 or B-17 formations. Similar to your Spitfire but a 180 on the objective, protecting the bombers instead of taking them out. Appreciate this system you have created.
Interesting game design! Incorporates a lot of typical B-17 actions: Flak, fighters, weather, crew hits, etc. On the escort rolls, I’d probably prefer to refer to those as unsuccessful rather than killed. Meaning that they engage the enemy and are no longer available for your bombers protection. I think that gives it a broader range other than just being shot down. My only other thought is when rolling a one D6, it seems harder to hit the crew rather than the immense bomber. Maybe perhaps a result of 1 to 2, strikes the crew and 3 to 6 affects the bomber. Just my thoughts. Certainly not trying to get you to change the game in any way. I like the design and congratulate you for your innovative system. Well done!
Are you possibly considering any actions that include potential FLAK? Also any differences in model types? i.e. if flying an "F" over a "G" there is an impact if attacked at 12 o'clock due to the different gun configurations.
Looks great - would love to see other roll and write book games like this that basically streamline Greg Smith games! Just a thought - rolling doubles on an attack roll - could that mean something extra? Gun jam perhaps?
Hey James, have just gotten my copy and found a few issue that I think need to be clarified. At 6.11 you mention only one activation for gunners yet on Pg 5 under Attacking each gunner position can fire twice? Assuming due to larger store of ammo compared to fighter ? At 6.45 Escorts arrive at Medium range and one is lost if failing to hit enemy fighter. This could be supported on Pg 12, Example Combat Sheet explanation with two Escorts lost by Zone 1 Short range, However on Pg 6 text would suggest Escort is available at long range yet only one is lost when B17 takes damage not after failing to intercept enemy fight? I am split between both options as both ensure high attrition rate for Escorts. Any chance of one last table for crew survival Should B17 be shot down? Great game so far though.
Hi this was a early play through rod the game. Everything in the book is how it should be played. Thanks for the support glad your enjoying the game Jk
Great game but have a few questions. There is no mention of changing one action due per turn in the rule book, does this mean we can or can’t change a die? The German production table is different, if I get 20 vp’s do I only mark off one point of production?
Hi Steve I’m going to do an updated play though. You can’t change an action dice now and German production is according to the rule book. I hope this helps Many thanks Jk
Fun game,,,would like to see a sequence of play as well as numbered pages and and a tabke of contents,Also since there is an overwhelming ratio of escorts to attackers ,perhaps a roll of 5 would drive off the attacker and a 6 he is shot down.
I have this game and have a question about damage. The book says when the b17 takes damage a p51 is removed. Is that correct? Or is it that when the bomber is hit a p51 can be romoved instead of taking damage. Thank you. For your time.
