My stab at your last reaction: SnCl4 + 4 NaBH4 -> Sn (s) + 4 NaCl + 2B2H6 + 2 H2 The diborane and hydrogen rapidly react with oxygen in the air to produce boron oxide and water, which is the source of energy for the explosion. Great work on your channel, by the way. Excellent stuff.
Excellent video and amazing experiment! I made diborane several times in the last 20 years; prepared it with NaBH4 and conc sulfuric or orthophosphoric acid. It burns with a beautiful bright green flame, occasionally also turning blue in the test tube!
Great video again :-) Perhaps just a little more information about why these reactions might be useful wouldn't hurt? Why would KBH4 be more appropriate for some reactions?
Great video and clear presentation. Thank you for your efforts in making a real video instead of an animation. It is really cool. I will show it to my students in safety training.
Why do the most beutiful substances have to be toxic?? For green fire ine could just use copper powder then dissolve the CuO in an acid and add aluminum or iron or zinc to re-obtain the copper
@@guythat779 Just not as pretty as copper lol Boron to me is more "limey", copper being more emerald. But if you don't care so much about the lime hue, boric is much less headache
@@MadScientist267 you can do copper with a but of copper chloride and alcohol too but it's a finicky balance My point was that he's wrong not to have a beauty pageant Although I would love me a fore beauty pageant
Diborane has higher specific energy than methane. 78.2 MJ/kg vs 55.6 MJ/kg. That means you get more energy from burning 1 kg of diborane than burning 1 kg of methane. Too bad diborane is reactive and nasty as hell.
With the music I feel like I should be playing Cantra while synthesizing lasergic acid diathalomide and dimethyl triptamine then finish it off with some preset ketamine so I can eventually sleep.
@@vinayakhotkar4593 what's a convenient way to make a metal hydride in the first place???? , then I assume other hydrides can be made from that, whatever that is...
