Watching you not only make the pattern adjustments but also identify what needs to be made & why was absolutely helpful. Thank you for sharing with this new sewist. Cheers!
Thank you. I never saw ( or remember) the narrow shoulder adjustment and how it impacts the armseye at the underarm. You explained and demonstrated it beautifully.🤗
Great video. Never knew correct way to adjust the bust area. I also never knew to make a muslin first. You’ve taught me so many new things. Learned to sew in Home EC back in the late 60’s. And now I’m in my late 60’s and still learning. Thank you Whitney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for this alteration video! I always have to adjust for narrow shoulders and never got it quite right (always ended up with puckers around the armscye), so I really appreciate seeing how to do it properly. Love all your vlogs. Thanks for sharing!
Fabulous tutorial on fitting Whitney! I struggle with that so I was glad to see you go step-by-step and show how you analyzed your muslin and adjusted the pattern pieces. Thank you!! I can't wait to see the rest of your tutorials on this dress.
Thank you! Looking to see how you do adjustments is so helpful! I am also only 5’2” and sometimes need FBA, so your fitting issues are relevant to me! 😊
Thank you for all the adjustment tips. I learned how to do a narrow shoulder adjustment from Linda Lee and it's the same as yours. Sometimes I feel like I'm flying by the seat of my pants doing adjustments. It's nice to see the "proper" way.
Lots of great tips in this video! I'll be cutting my pattern out tomorrow and know already I will need a narrow shoulder adjustment and now I know how to do it without guessing! lol
So helpful seeing up your fitting adjustments at the toile stage. I have a very similar shape (I’m 5’4” however) so it’s great seeing your analysis of how it *should* fit. I only buy the multi cup patterns these days so it’s less adjustments to the pattern. Would like to know a bit more (slowly) your process of selecting a size to cut ... next time?
Exactly the alt I need right down the the 1” amount! Just found you from someone on Pattern Review who recommended your vids. Do you have a video demonstrating a narrow shoulder on dolman sleeve? Thanks, Whitney!
I'm so glad you found me! To answer your question about dolman sleeves, because there isn't a shoulder seam, you don't need to worry about broad or narrow shoulder adjustments on those garments!
This is a great project! Thank for doing this tutorial series. Is there a natural fiber interfacing product alternative to the Palmer Pletsch interfacing that you would recommend?
Silk organza is a fantastic sew-in replacement interfacing! You can buy white silk organza for a great price and in bulk online at Dharma Trading Company.
Thank you so much. You explained the adjustments so well. Can l please ask you, l am doing a dress muslin for another pattern. My question is what would you do if your left neck edge seems to be lower than your right. I have adjusted my shoulders and they seemed good. Then l attached my skirt and now the neck edge seems to have pulled away from my neck. Shoulders make me crazy!! Would love any thoughts you may have.
I just sent you an email back, but adding the skirt could be the answer. In the back photo, it looked as if one hip was higher than the other. It could be the way you were standing, or if you have a higher hip on one side, it could be that throwing off the neckline.
Wow! I've learned so much just from watching you adjust your pattern. I've sewn baby and children's clothes, but now I want to sew for myself. I will definitely need to make adjustments...lol! I have a question about your rulers. I have a french curve like yours, and I need to buy a pattern ruler like the blue one you used. Are there any other rulers you recommend I purchase for me to get started? Thanks so much!
This was such a great lesson today! It went at such a good pace with so much detail. I was wondering why the pattern wasn't measured before the muslin was made? Is that something you normally do or not? I have found for me, that has helped cut down on the number of headaches I get!! LOL... I really like how honest you are about sewing and fitting. Thank you
I will measure a pattern if it doesn’t include finished measurements. The sleeve cap ease could have been caught with pre-measuring, but the muslin caught that as well!
Hope this is ok to ask? I'm enjoying your tutorials, and positively DROOLING over your Juki 9000. About to upgrade, I'm thinking about a TL semi-industrial model...do you think I'll be sorry?
I would buy my machine over again 100 times. I’m not very familiar with the semi-industrial machines, but if they are anything similar to what I use then I would say you won’t be sorry!
Although I won't be making this particular pattern I still do learn from watching you make adjustments to a pattern. My shirt dress is actually going to be used as both a long-sleeve duster as well as a dress so Liesl & Co is the ticket for me! Again, the reason so many of us sew is we get a perfectly fitted garment made from fabric chosen by us and you are teaching the skills needed to attain those goals! Why is cotton lawn so difficult to find here in the U.S.?
Hi Whitney! I have notifications on ALL, but still not getting notified about your videos. This is also happening with another youtube video subscription. This started about two weeks ago. Has anyone else had this problem?
@@TomKatStitchery I just googled it. Apparently, people weren't taking advantage of the notifications and complained that they were clogging their inbox. I'll just check back each week to see what you have. Thanks - have a great week.
I never took the seam allowances away so there as no need to add them back. This is a Linda Lee trick that I learned that has been so helpful and quick!
Wow! You lose weight quickly! And you definitely have a small frame. What is your shoulder width? We are super close in size but we don’t look the same at all. I think I have very broad shoulders.
I have narrow shoulders and a wide back. My shoulder width across the front is 14.25”. Also, the weight loss is mainly due to following a Keto diet. Since I had to cut out sugar (and I’m so sensitive to so much other foods), my doctor suggested I try the Keto for a while. It definitely works!
TomKat Stitchery hmmm, I guess I do look like you. My shoulders are 15 inches and my bust is 37.5. That’s not a whole lot of difference. I guess in my mind I think I’m different than reality 😂 No wonder I like everyone you make!
