In this video will go over the approach setup and briefing for your simulator training. This video was made as requested by one of the subscribers (Eric), thank you, Eric, for the request.
Circling approach set up and briefing is discussed first, followed by ILS single engine assuming.
The sequence of the approaches in the simulator usually is the circling approach followed by another nonpression approach like an RNAV then single-engine ILS approaches and finally either a single engine visual approach or Flaps UP visual.
This is an overview and a quick discussion regarding the setup and briefing.
Please remember that anything mentioned here is meant for training purposes only.
Your comments and questions are more than welcome.

Hello Captain, Glad to see a instruction video from your hand again. It's always nice to learn from inside information. For people that don't know the used abbreviations: PM = Pilot Monitoring PF = Pilot Flying VDM = VOR/DME Approach (The option picked in the FMC) Also a two Questions about a total different topic, the Transponder/Squawk: 1. I assume if you enter the flightdeck there is already set a Squawk Code from the previous crew or is it procedure to set it always to a specific code after going on the blocks by a stand or by entering the flightdeck, Let's say: 1200 ? 2. If you are at the blocks and preparing a flight the Transponder is set to "STBY'- mode? By requesting a clearance you get a Squawk Code an if it is different then the one is set you are changed it to the new code. In my opinion I changed the mode from "STBY' to 'TA Only' when ready to taxi. Next when ready for departure I changed it to mode 'TA/RA'? If I follow this procedure during my SimulatorFlight the Ground Controller at Vatsim and IVAO (for flightsimmers) calls me and instructed me to changed immediate to 'TA Only' during the taxi. They says that it's not allowed by procedure to set it to 'TA Only' during Taxi. As reason they give : They see to much information on the screen they use. What is the correct procedure? Thanks for helping me to get it clear and have a nice day. Greetings from The Netherlands.

Hello G L, Thank you for explaining the abbreviations. Regarding your question: 1- Both are true and usually it is an airline specific procedure whether to reset the transponder code or not after the flight. 2- Usually once you request a startup clearance you will switch the transponder to ALT OFF. Usually the position next to STBY. and when clear to line up and wait or cleared for Takeoff you go TA/RA. Hope that answer your questions. Thanks again

Why do you take cat D with b737 ? Isn't it cat C ? Many thanks for your dedication...

Hello William, The approach briefed in this video is a circle to land, considering the approach speed for circle using gear down flaps 15 for most of the maneuver I went for Cat D due to the higher approach speed, I have a video talking about DA and MDA selection you can find it here DA & MDA ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P4nwU5-8HF0.html Let me know should you have any other questions All the best Abdul

Hello Capt, Thanks for the tutorial, please help me! I just bought the PMDG B737 for FSX and I'm really having a hard time landing this plane. Each time I want to intercept the localizer, the VOR/LOC button won't arm or show up on the PFD and when I hit the APP the plane will follow the glide slope and runway course but it won't align to the runway. I happen to be slightly drifted to the left of the runway heading course and this makes me disconnect the autopilot to land the plane manually. How can I align myself to the runway heading when my VOR/LOC key won't arm. Is there something I'm doing which is not right. please explain! Note: I set up all my approach procedures correctly. Heading course on both sides, loc frequencies both nav, transition level set, glide slope atl interception, minimums and whatnot.

Hi Ring, May be it’s better to do this over a video call, so I can see and may be able to help. If you are interested drop an e-mail at abdulmuati37@gmail.com so we can arrange for a video call, the other option send me screen pictures of the PFD, ND, NAV panel to try to figure this thing out. All the best Abdul
