B777 LANDING Vancouver Cockpit View 

Love the captain sense of humour 'the runway is over there I will try and land on it'.

Anybody learning to fly, do this exercise for this video: In the final approach when they switch to the forward camera, put your cursor on the runway threshold. The position on your screen does not shift all the way down to the flare. Beautiful stabilized approach. That's what you want to get a controlled safe landing.

I did a brief stint instructing out of Boundary Bay, teaching people how to fly Cessna 152s and 172s. The airspace in the Vancouver area is pretty limited for flight training as you've got YVR and its airspace, then the mountains right to the north, the USA just there to the south, and other small airports around. Much different from Toronto, where I did my training, where you can just pop up north or to the east a bit outside of YYZ's space and have lots of uncontrolled airspace to work in. I would be flying between Boundary Bay up to Pitt Lake and Stave Lake. There's a practice area a little east of Fort Langely too. It's kind of cool seeing a big commercial jet flying over those areas. I wonder if there were a couple of Cessnas flying below.

Very cool to watch you guys fly the CANUC5 STAR into YVR in real life. Living almost directly beneath this approach route myself (just east of waypoint GOREG) I regularly see and hear a lot of the YVR inbound traffic pass overhead from my place, when 26R is in use for arrivals. I've flown this STAR many times in MSFS, and I have to say watching the real thing, it all seemed very familiar.

When I see approaches right over the city like this one, or at LAX or LHR, I really don't understand why in the Netherlands there is always so much fuzz about noise around Schiphol Airport..

Do you ever witness other jets laying down persistent contrails, or do you yourselves possibly lay them down, and if so when did this start happening? I can remember as a child we called them contrails and they would dissipate rather quickly behind the jet. Also wondering if these persistent contrails have anything to do with the serious disappearance of most birds and insects?
