Great video. Don't forget to put the engine oil cap on after removing the plastic cover while you are fiddling with the plugs and coils to prevent debris going into the engine unintentionally.
That is a good idea, and I usually do it, but didn't this time, I suppose because I knew I was only going to be 1 minute demonstrating and not there to do the whole job.
Mate, ive owned my BF falcon for 4.5 years and everytime i looked at the engine it was just confusing, you've made it so clear in every tutorial ive seen from you so thankyou 8-D
Thanks dude. Been a while since I've change spark plugs and I haven't on my XR6 since purchase (second hand) yet so this was awesome cheers. Hope you enjoy your BA as much as I do. I love it.
This was a very handy vid. Thanks for sharing / posting. An issue I did come across was a couple of the coil packs, the plug section got stuck down in the engine with the old spark plugs and wouldn’t come out. What I did, was spray a heap of WD40 down the side of them and that provided enough lubrication for me to be able to wiggle them out with pliers without damaging them.
Thanks for the great video. After watching it I had a crack at doing my plugs myself. I was extra careful so probably took a little longer then I could have. Apart from the plugs costing a bit more then I thought I completed the task successfully saving I reckon at least a couple hundred bucks on labour. Cheers
14:29 so true make sure no gaps underneath . My BA started missing found that the last mechanic did not fit this properly it was sucking in dirty air. I actually pull the complete thing apart and fit that bit first. Top video thanks
Doing plugs n coils now ... Just wanted to hear the conclusion ? As I'm waiting for the parts ... This xr6 ba on inspection had the throttle body misaligned by 3-4 mm is that ford ? I'm sure Tickford didn't slap em on like that .
Well the coils were my problem. And that fixed it. A dozen of people may have had the crossover off for plug changes and general maintenance since new.
Mate, I wish you had told us what could go wrong! First non of the coils came out intact, the top separated from the rubber tube, then I had to use pliers with a strong pull to get the tubes out. Then I found one plug hole was full of oil - over the plug top, so It looks like the rocker cover will have to come off right? Sound like a difficult and dirty job? I should have identified the problem cylinder, then disconnected the coil connector and run the car to a garage. It would not run as was with the oil filled plug. I'm suprised it worked smoothly last week? I have yet to look at the plugs, as I need a special socket to remove them. Iridium done 65,000 KM.
Never had any of those issues to warn you about mate. Oil in the plug well could just be covered gaskets, all the way up to cracked head. It's hard to know. No special sockets needed for plugs, the iridium I have don't need it. You'll need a uni and extension for number 6 though.
Haha I just laughed my guts out at the "I recommend getting one of these a magnetic tray". Then you struggling to find some metal to attach it to in an engine bay full of plastic lol
ThAnks for the vid! Quick tip to save you an hour though. On the difficult plug, I tried everything to get my extensions to fit and the only thing that worked was having the universal half way ( half down the hole). It then got severely jammed. Lots of swearing and sweating followed.
spark plug torque is 10Nm or 7.4 ft/lbs, doing mine this weekend, done 160k on original sets and it's starting to miss under load now. so new NGK coils and iridium plugs ordered.
Mate, awesome video a lot of detail and explanation your a Legend & BIG help much appreciated.. I'll be trying to change them over soon.. thanks a million Ps. more videos..
Great video and very entertaining. Do you ever clean the throttle body when you have the air duct off? From the bit I could see it didn't look very dirty.
My mate got stuck on number six spark plug..Your video sure helped, so thanks for sharing.. That seems like a very complete socket/ spanner set you are using..Do you mind sharing the brand and model number?..Cheers..
@@tangles01 I thought it was Stanley with yellow on the ratchet handles but could not make it out..The only other brand with yellow tools is Dewalt... Thank you.
Great vid. Yer be only had bf wagon 3 weeks runs ok but start up is shit sometimes. N new battery all that best way foward i rekon. Can tell last fulla didnt give it nuthin. Thanx
Thanks for the videos Mr. Tangles. Quick one for you. I'm looking at getting a BA Falcon myself. do you think it matters all that much if its a mk1 or mk2? What year is your wagon? Thanks mate keep up the good work.
Mines an 04 mate. As far a MkI or II, not sure, undoubtedly they ironed out a few problems from the MKI when they did the MKII, it's generally how it goes.
@@tangles01 Thanks for the reply mate I think 04 on is mk2. Looking at buying one myself and wanted your opinion on it. Ill look for a 04 and up :) thanks again mate
I was pulling up No.6 spark plug and it fell back in upside down, any idea how to get it out? i've tried blu tak on the end of a screw driver and still can't retieve it.
@@XSeanxMeowX I've got a few and a couple of small flexible claw ones as well as a shiethed magnet that only poles out when you put the plunger on the back so you can fish past other magnetic shit.
@@tangles01 Oh yes, those ones are pretty cool too, I might get both; I guess different operations require different tools, although that plunger one sounds very handy.
Thank you so much ,The magnet bowl is very important My LPG wagon stopped and wont start ,all fuses good ,wasnt running rough and solinoid has power .Brand new battery in and wont start ,serviced regulary
The cover gasket just sits in the groove mate, place it in pop it on, done. Ive not had to replace mine so not sure, but it's just a rubber seal, pretty much any brand will be fine.
Sorry I replied when tires, you want a gas/lpg conversion? sorry no idea mate. but I wouldn't got for the cheap option on that if I were you. probebly best to buy one with LPG on it already, preferably the factory lpg ones.
It is far more sensible to use the long life Iridium plugs from a practicality and cost perspective. I use them at the moment because I have a dedicated LPG vehicle but I would even use them with Petrol cars now.
I always replace that seal, and likewise make sure you have proper washers (or sensor-safe silicone) under screws too, to keep water out...when you wash engine, then it runs like a pig for days, you'll see why I say that!!🤯
That can work, depending o the lengths of the extension. But also most of the cheaper tool kits will have exactly what I used here, which is the sort of thing most beginners will have ready access to.
Try pouring alittle petol in throttle body before anything else. I had same thing happen , soon as i put in a squirt of fuel it started. Weirdest thing
Just replaced my coils and plugs and I can't get the rubber gasket to line up with the groove on the cover is it ok to pulpit of and put in the groove I'm told it don't matter if seal is broke looking like the only way I can do it ?
It can be a bit tricky, but it is important as water can get under the cover and then run down onto the coils which will wreck them, it can also run down the hole and pool where the plugg is which will cause corrosion and spark loss, and worse if you undo a plug and some of that rusty water goes inside the cylinder. I imaging a new seal is pretty cheap, but also just pulling it out and re moulding it with some gentle heat from say a hair dryer should help it go back in.
Thx mate appreciate that, went and watched your other vid of the coils, will head down today to grab a set and throw em in confident they’ll do the trick, have left it for ages not being mechanically minded or finding the information like you have posted cheers
Thanks for going to the trouble of making this video to inform Ford BA owners on how to change spark plugs and save a bundle of $$$ in the process tangles01 . Do you have a video on removing the throttle body from car to clean it properly? Does the BA model have a mass air flow sensor? If so do you have a video on removal and cleaning? Cheers
Hello bae, I hope you remember me! You know the button on the transmission gear stick, the one you change gears on. P D R N and such. Well my button on it that you hold in to change gears has broken, so I had to use tape to hold it in place, but looks shit. ANy chance you can do a video on how to change the gear stick? I love you?
I'll be honest, that's a bit stalky... I only film the stuff I need to do, if that helps people I'm down with that, but I'm not going to just do random stuff for the sake of it I'm afraid. I bet there are some others who have a video of that exact job up though, good luck.
@@tangles01 VZ Alloytec haha. Used to own one, luckily I had 25mm manifold spacer to prevent this but the Falcon I own now is 100x better to work on overall
Ford really fucked up with the sixth plugs placement access and the stupid back Allen bolt mine is not in was like it when I got the car I don't know if it will hurt anything but it hasn't so far makes it so much easier to remove
Yeah it really just hold the seal in to stop water getting into the coils. back of the engine is a tough place for water to get in the 1st place, so it's probably fine, you could always buy a 20c bolt if it worried you.
tangles01 how long have you had the z32 I used to have a good one with legit low KMs under 80k but my ex made me sell it to get a family car then the cow left me a few months later thay are nice cars I wish I still had it
Lets see, I b ought spent 3 months fixing it, drove it blew the head gasket and parked it 6 months ago lol. After I finish building the RB25 for the race car, I'll sort out the 300ZX.
