In 1990, four hundred British Airways passengers and crew were imprisoned by one of history's most notorious dictators. They were caught up in the first Gulf war when their flight, #BA149, landed in #Kuwait just two hours after #Iraq's invasion.
Officially, it was a monumental case of bad luck; but some think they were victims of a Ministry of Defence covert mission: "British Airways 149 was flown into a war zone on the direct instructions of the British government to land a secret intelligence team of military operatives."

Had the Captain of BA149 not delayed departure from Heathrow to fix a problem with the aircrafts APU; the aircraft would have landed in Kuwait turnaround and flown out safely to its next fuel stop in India. Turnaround time is only 1 hour.

I am clueless about the aviation business but I thought that there should be some kind of communication between the flight and the airport staff to arrange for landing. How did they land without receiving signals from the ground staff who I assume had already flown the airport when they knew about Iraq's invasion!

Sometimes a government must lie for the greater good. This was a few hundred passenger's vs a world who had to deal with a tyrant. I understand their argument but in times of war, lying is part of the course.
