We skip a few movies in Yugo Sakamoto's filmography (we'll get back to those later), because Baby Assassins Nice Days will be released this week, so we've gotta talk about the first two movies. Today it's time for part one: The birth of the maybe most popular moder Japanese action franchise (at least abroad).

I thought about the dream sequence a lot. I found it really confusing the first time and it presents this idea that there will be more fakouts later on and it confused my friends too. I think the interpretation that she wants to reject society and live in a world where she can just fight her way through any problem is valid. but after watching it I couldn't help but agree with the real purpose be to show she wants a better relationship with Chisato. I think the apology sequence also shows this is a little too because she talks about not wanting to lose her only friend over her issue. I think it isn't even that their relationship is so bad that she wishes it were better though, but more that she wishes she was different. In every other scene where they interact Chisato is like she is in the dream sequence, so she is the same, the difference is Mahiro. They don't really joke around the same through the rest of the movie because Mahiro is so much more dismissive and stubborn. She wants that back and forth and to be as communicative as she was in that sequence. which is why i think it works so well for the apology too. In the end when she asks her to pick her up Chisato looks a bit disturbed as if she has never actually done this before and it was all just wish fulfilment. I think that comes up a lot throughout the movie, and i guess all of them at this point. I think it is part of the reason why I so believe the whole Mahiro is autistic thing because its all about her inability to communicate the same way everyone else does and a big part of my finds that very relatable. so like 19 viewings in i find that bit quite meaningful. those are just my thoughts on that bit anyway haha, I liked your insight. back to the video

Yeah, I think you're totally right here and that's more or less what I said in the video (or tried to say): It's the story of her accepting her life the way it is and not compare herself to others. She wants to change, because she feels like there is a need to do so, but ends up at a point where she understands, that she's totally fine the way she is.

@@CompendiumofDiscomfort It was just a moment that really caught me in the video because everyone i know has been confused when we watched it together during that scene. I think we came to the same conclusion in different ways which is mostly why i commented haha

@@BradTalksFilm It's a confusing scene. It feels very off, but if we all come to the same conclusion, it's probably not bad, just strange. So in the end Yugo wins.
