Definitely encouraged by the parent. It's called sibling clutch reduction. When there isn't enough food, the parents will ignore the violence and intentionally feed the aggressor, allowing the aggressor to reduce the number of mouths to feed
@karentheis3690 you guys always say this , when the siblings. Attack And a few days later the male eagle appears, so it must be that mom isn't protecting its younger chick , For many reasons
Benjamin Franklin, one of the leading intellectuals of his time, a polymath, had opinion of this predator, the bald eagle, calling it a "Bird of bad Moral Character"....considering they along with their fellow predators, hawks and owls are fellow cannibals even from their earliest moments after hatching, his opinion is quite apt.
We happen to be the top of the food chain, the greatest apex predator of all, and cannibalism is not practiced much due to blood-blood diseases and prion infections, not because we are better. Ben was a real jerk sometimes.
I think this is it displaying territorial behavior for when she gets older,...my guess is the oldest female the middle male and the youngest female,...same thing at Dale Nest
you know how they catour to the big ones how the hell the litteral ones have a chance when the parents are behind the first born they give them twice the food some get none first feeding
It is badly hurt. I don’t think it’s gonna make it. Mother nature could be so cruel. It took such a long time for the second egg to hatch. The size difference is so evident. Remember there was one eagle last season that raised three of them but she had lots of fish to feed them. When they were born, so close to each other.
The parents won't kill their own chicks, but when food is scarce they'll depend on the strongest to "clutch reduction" aka reducing the number of mouths to feed. The chick killed will provide food for the killer. Nature is brutal, and too many watching it are in denial, make excuses, or try to silence the reality.
I thought only 2 eaglets. There’s 3. The 2nd oldest is the aggressor, he attacked the older one too when I fast forward to see how the younger was handling it.
That's interesting. Just like the Cowlitz Osprey nest, the younger chick became the aggressor and ultimately, dominated that nest/feedings this year (2021).. I never fail to learn about BOP every nesting season. I wonder if little dude made it?
This is simply instinctive avian behavior when there is insufficient food. Fratricide is common among raptors. The two smaller chicks are fed to the oldest, strongest chick. In this way, one chick survives, rather than all three being lost. Sentiment has no place in an eagle's nest.
Then why do we protect them if they don't protect their own.....Our instinct should be IF YOU DON'T THEN WE DON'T.....Sentiment has no place in a human world as far as RAPTOR'S GO ! If we go hungry then we should eat them . RIGHT ? All life is worth something if not then why bother?
@@trissloan663 No, on some other nests...like Harriet and M15....M was distracting 17 from beating up on 18 and even a few times using his beak to stop it....17 must be a female because she is a bully and 18 a male is very submissive...Shadow is another male that has gently interceded with his young...so its like humans ...some good parents and some bad. BTW if you noticed Mom was eating while the one eaglet was killing the other...NO lack of food....just a bad parent.
@@eileenjones3918 No - in those other nests there was more food. It is also very rare for there to be 3 eaglets. If there are 3, one is almost guaranteed to die. This is the real world. If you don't like it, get a subscription to Disney +
@@agl1138 Well Mom was eating , why didn't she give it to the babies........Mom can fly and find something....she ignored what was happening to feed herself. The MATERNAL INSTINCT in the female is to protect and feed the young. Obviously you do watch Disney Sir.
Did that Middle STRONGER Chick - KILL the smallest it was beating/tearing apart?? Also I didn't realize there was Another chick by the Mom Eagle also cowering! I had no idea certain Birds did this!! If anyone knows please? Thank you
Regular behavior for raptors. Nature's pragmatism at its finest : if there's not enough food for 3 chicks, 1 dead now and 2 alive is better than 3 dead in a week from now.
Three chicks gives one or two a chance of reaching adulthood. When one dominant/aggressive chick kills his two siblings, there is only one with a chance of reaching adulthood. The animal behavior of the chicks is detrimental to the survival of the species. Don’t give me that “survival of the fittest” nonsense. The two murdered chicks might have been very fit, but just hatched a few days earlier. Meanwhile mom just goes about preparing dinner for three, er two, er one. Just another day in the animal world.
The Nongame Wildlife EagleCam nest collapsed last year, with a young eaglet in it; another tragedy :( I hope all that bad energy is now away! Time to build a new nest, Mom; have hope!
This is really bad, but believe it or not, I saw a one on youtube worst than this, the poor little thing was being eaten alive by the older one and then he and mom eat it after it died. heart breaking
@Clarity. It's heartbreaking! Birds inter-species attacking each other is life, I get it. This is a lazy mom. We saw Shadow get between his 2 & feed the smaller 1 more so it caught up. Some birds are good parents, some aren't.
@Shoenheim This mom was first time mom last season. She has been a wonderful mom this season. This is the symbol of America, constantly improving her self...
eaglet has to learn to fight for its food and protect its self .if they can’t learn to fight for themselves at this stage, they more than likely not survive within the 1st year . There is always sibling rivalry . As they get older . There is less of it . 3 eaglets is tough to feed so the weakest of the bunch probably won’t survive .
Obviously human rules don’t apply here. Humans no touching or you up for assault or sexual harassment. Nature the strong aggressor wins all the time with humans the strong and aggressive are jailed .
This is so sad thats a brutal attack. Obvious lack of food and resources. I hate siblicide sometimes the big one is so much larger then the smallest. Sure hope they all fledged. What nest is this Decorah?
I was watching this stream during lock down. It was a cold week that month and a snow storm was coming. The Other two survived but i do believe the other bullied one fell from its nest a year ago or so. There is a small coommunity watching this MN eagle nest.
Look at that stupid mother after all they are just animal it's just humans especially the rich ones glorify them for no reason that big eaglet was trying to get to the flesh of that small eaglet so he can eat it.
If you are going to write a book about eagles , first learn to. Spell , second take classes on raptors behavior, otherwise save your ignorant comments for yourself
This is why I just look at nature and animals and keep moving on, I love it when women say oh I just love animals they’re so cute, that’s because you’re never around when they are eating one another.
Yes, because all women everywhere say the exact same thing. We’re very lucky to have you to mansplain Mother Nature to us, otherwise we would think the animal kingdom is just like a Disney film. I have a doctorate in molecular biology, but I never would have been able to graduate if it wasn’t for my male colleagues who helped me cheat. 🙄🤡
@@agl1138 hello i watch this cam last year their was a food shortage on the nest poor little chick die a few days later on the other 2 survived the weather was IMO the reason why their was little or lack of food in the nest
@Phrnch Mdl human interference as in, destroying of their hunting grounds (for lumber and estate) and over poaching (leaving less game for animals to hunt)
@Phrnch Mdl you dont have to hunt a specific species to kill them off- you take their food supply or the food supply that their prey eats and they die off
The mother or father of eagle is heartless, they should stop the stronger chick which attacked the weaker. If check the real story, the U.S should not make eagle to be the national bird.
