We are weaning Molly using our tried and true method of using Uncle Bo! We are testing some tempers and putting some mommas back where they belong!

What Katie calls boring, i find fascinating!! Just because there's no drama doesn't mean it isn't compelling!! The horses are gorgeous and just watching them interact calmly and enjoy being horses is what i came for!! So stop calling them boring! 😂❤

I love how great you take care of your horses. Bobo looks freaking fantastic for his age. I've seen horses that are 14 - 15 that look super sway backed with their ribs showing and it's heart breaking. Love Running Springs for all their care of their animals.

Wonderful way of weaning - tho'tful & kind . I had one QH mare who was a great mom w/ big strong babies - she always started to " self wean " her babies at four months . We then went by the F. Almanac & the sign to follow thru on the weaning - good smooth experiences .

Love the foot wear. I wear the same when I'm at the barn. But I agree with you on the weaning process. We do the same. But like you said it works for us. But not everyone

I can see down the road a few years into future best boy and best babysitter Bobo teaching baby 7 the ropes to take over his best boy best babysitter position idk what Katie has planned and I know that's a very long ways aways just have this feeling that that's one of the reason baby 7 came out the little miracle he is

I had a mare like Maggie. Had enormous foals and gave them everything she got and more. Always had to wear at 4-5 months and hide her in the back forty until she fattened back up!

I wish I was a little closer to this Ranch! Everyone and the horses... it just seems like a GREAT place to hang out. .... And I haven't been able to ride in more than 10+ years!!! I did work more recently with a rescue, taking care of a few horses. I love being around them :) I live in Martin, which is about 3 hours away? Maybe if I get a better car/motivation to drive...

I don’t know anything about horses IRL so take this with a boulder of salt. From watching horse videos, I feel like it’s more stressful on the mama to slow wean. She wants her baby with her, she needs to protect her baby. When you get them as far apart as possible, it’s easier for her to accept that change. It doesn’t give her the impression that there’s something she can do to get her baby back, so she’s less stressed

So Katie called counter cantering, cantering on the wrong lead..is it the wrong lead the wrong lead off foot? What is the wrong lead? I know nothing of this horse world, 😂 just what I've found out watching these vids for a about a month now. I have fallen in love with Katie and those gorgeous horses, big AND mini...the goats and the mini cows, and can't forget the donkeys too! 😂

Molly obviously doesn’t feel threatened by Bo otherwise she wouldn’t have got down to roll. Rolling is a horse’s most vulnerable position to “predators”.

Clacking is the baby telling the other "please don't hurt me, I'm just a baby."

clacking is where they move their mouth open and closed. almost looks like they are “talking”. it means “i’m just a baby please don’t hurt me”. some young horses do it but you don’t really see it at all with adults.

although they may see each other around briefly in passing they won’t be turned out together for a few years. Molly will go learn how to be a big horse and Maggie will likely have a new baby to look after.

by the time a baby is weaned they aren’t nursing much, so it’s not a big deal for the majority of horses.

In watching Molly being a little scardey cat, we forget that she's being weaned at a younger age, so perhaps she's got reason to be a little more skittish...
