I used to have the original ROTF version and I agree with everything said here. Also if you grab the chin you can flip up his cyber mission face to see his movie one. The downside is it can’t go all the way back so it just sticks up off the top of his head
I've actually nodded mine abit. The entire backpack and upper body shifts upward and compresses in. This reduces the size of the backpack greatly, and makes him appear taller to!
The Jazz HA figure is actually really cool, and the Bumblebee is pretty good as well. Bee has a leg mod where you switch legs (?) I don't really remember what it was, but I did it on mine and it works so much better. HA figures are unique and fun in their own special way.
I got this guy from a friend for my 9th birthday and he was my first human alliance toy, so I was absolutely siked! I quickly found out that he could not hold the scout class toy, which sucked, but I didn't care that much. A couple notes on this guy; A, the exhausts can extend out for the some reason, I'm not sure why, but it's cool I guess. B, The robot mode has these two little grey flaps on the side of the abdomen that fold out to try to make his mody look wider, which I find hilarious given how little they add to his robot silhouette. C, The front grille folds in so that those grey struts in robot mode can hold the backpack in place more securely, and D, The backpack.... The reason this toy has a massive backpack is because the designer deliberately tried to give the vehichle mode as few pannel lines as possible, to represent the real car's smooth appearance as closely as possible, which on the original release of the toy in full silver worked really well, but came at the consequence of the robot mode's giant backpack. The inside of the roof even has that tiny little fold out flap so that little piece would sit against the hood in robot mode to reduce paint chipping from contact with the exhausts and such. (or at least that's what seanxlong's review told me 13 years ago) The 'battle mask' has already been mentioned so I don't need to explain that, but I do love how the human alliance line included a mandatory head play feature for every toy. And lastly, the reason for his hollow gorrilla arms (with wrist swivels) is because of how closely he's based off the concept art, and granted the cgi model's arms work the say way, the toy just has unfortunate forearms. I love this guy for what he is, and as far as human alliance goes, he could be much worse. Great video, hope you're doing good!
Honestly I might get the original version of this purely for the vehicle mode, it’s so clean and I love the look of it, just means I won’t feel tempted to transform it lol
some people might actually call me crazy but sometimes a backpack does look good on a transformer but in HA sideswipes case he thought he would look cooler
About sideswipes part layout… I think his front turns into the arms cus the headlights are in his fore arms in bot mode and if you look at the studio series the headlights are molded in there too
I have a few Human Alliance figures myself: Barricade and Frenzy, Dark of the Moon Soundwave and that human he was with, a Stealth Ops Bumblebee (basically just a black Bumblebee) and Jazz. I'd like to have gotten this Sideswipe figure
You can also pull up on his chin/mask to reveal a more movie accurate face, but then it just kinda sits up there in the back of the head. It’s not the best, but still a fun little detail!
I got human alliance barricade last year and he ended up being my favourite transformer of 2022 so it's a high recommend from me and I can't wait for your eventually review of it!
This toy of sideswipe would have been perfect if they wasn't too lazy to at least try to make the backpack of sideswipe a bit more compressed and they could have make the arms transform into a different way but put that on a side it's a perfect toy
The arms folding is a similar sort of movement to the rotf deluxe, but the arm blades don't become the side panels of the car and the shoulder struts crumple straight inward instead of being a swinging pylon that brings down the shoulders towards the belly first, they don't have enough real estate inside the car to make the final shove very satisfying
I got the original HA Sideswipe. Was fine, though as you said, was a pain to pose and the backpack he had. Was reminded that his face is a battle mask as u can flip up the middle of his 'mask' to reveal his real face, but then where does the mask plate go? Awkwardly sticking up over his head? Only ever owned 3 HA figs. Being Sideswipe, Bumblebee and Skids. Skids was my fav with Sideswipe being the worst for me. Wanted to get Mudflap, but never could find him.
Been looking over my human alliance collection the last few days and funny enough playing with this exact version of the mould and I think it holds up and still fun .
Having owned a Sideswipe from the original Human Alliance, the Revenge of the Fallen Deluxe, Dark of the moon Deluxe (with the hand guns) and the newest Studio Series ROTF Sideswipe, my pick is the Studio Series one. It just gets the most right out of every single version (as it should since it's from 2022). I still have my Human Alliance one but only because the car mode is nearly perfect to the 2009 Concept Corvette, whereas all the others are just a bit to panel-ly. I do agree though that the Human Alliance is better then the original Deluxe though. Awesome review to kick off the new year!
Are you planning on getting/reviewing any of the Human Alliance basics? They're great toys that can be had at a good pricepoint. (In fact lol the local store in Oshawa has some of my spares)
Never seen this deco before at all. It looks weird and goofy yet i like the green but the blue isnt good imo. I like the black variant better but ehhhhhhhhhhhh alr Edit: if the blue was red and add a tiny extra bits of red we have a perfect color of G2/ROTF sideswipe!
It’s weird because sideswipe his wheels from the front of the car or his arms in the back of the car wheels are his legs and his head comes from the front of the car but everything transforms from top to bottom and bottom to top which is weird. I slow down the video and I saw it
Nice that people still reviewing this dead line, its good and bad in such a way that we keep in need for more, cause the industries doesnt bring as cool as this shits were.
Be careful with human alliance jazz his knee is using gold plastic I think we all know the problems with gold plastic, I found out it was gold plastic when it stopped being a kneecap
This was one of my original Human Alliance figure, the og silver one. I still love it for nostalgic reasons. My og one broke a piece off and I stole the piece from this version.
I could never pull the trigger on this multi pack; I remember it being a KMart exclusive. Always thought the deco was dope but kind of glad I didn't go for it, after seeing this video.
Human Alliance was probably one of the best releases during the ROTF/HFTD era. Managed to get most with exception of Sideswipe, and any of the race cars. Definitely prefer the shiny silver release during ROTF, but never bothered as the backpack, hip/leg designs are absolutely awful. Really easy skip for me. I feel if Hasbro would have for the most part upscaled the original deluxe with some interior room, and properly collapsed the backpack it would have been decent. All this really does as the original is get the car mode right. Side note. Didn't even know this repaint existed until now.
Ayo, The head actually has a gimmick. Down his head he has 2 seams that seperates the head into 3 sections, the middle piece folds up to reveal a different face. Why does it do that? not a fucking clue.
This deco is so ugly. The regular deco looks so much better, although it doesn't save the figure from being bad. I got this one before release in the US cause I lived in Japan at the time so just for that I liked it, and human alliance was a really cool idea, but the toy still sucks.
The RotF version is my only Human Alliance, and I've always been... intrigued by it but never loved it. But over the years of playing with it occasionally, I always discover new things; only yesterday did I find out the hands could slide down to initiate the wheel-spin gimmick, which I vaguely remembered from a decade ago but never knew how it worked. I'd really like to try HA Barricade, but there are like no good reviews of it online, or at least all the reviews I can find are a decade old and low resolution even for the time. And of course Jazz has always been a dream.
