Back in April, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources found this little Great Horned owl youngster:
"This great horned owl fledgling was found alone, away from its parents and nest, near a chemical processing plant in southern Utah today. "
After a stay at the Southwest Wildlife Foundation under Martin's care, we're pleased to announce the owl will soon be released! Release date is: June 24th!

Our Mission
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
Informing, Educating and Inspiring
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.

I know the little guy would be very much against it, but I just want to hug him. What a super cute fluffy little creature! Even when he tries to be vicious, he is adorable. I hope he is doing fine! I think, I watched almost all your videos, Sir. The story about the eagle that would not quit was very touching. You have such a great way with those marvellous birds. Best regards from Switzerland

Late at night I was in my front yard with my cat, I had turned to go inside and wondered if my cat was going to come in with me. I turned by head and I saw that my cat had something very big in his paws. I though, what the heck is that? It was a very small owl maybe 6 to 8 inch tall. I have no idea how my cat got it because I had seen the cat only a second before and it didn't have it. I really think they cat was wondering about it too as it was't attacking it or biting or anything. I ran over and got it, but it was completely limp. I thought my cat had already killed it. I took it to the porch to look at it, I pulled out it's wings and felt the body but I couldn't see or feel and blood. It eyes where wide open but it was limp. Then all of the sudden I realized it was tracking with it's head. When I move the body the head would stay in the same place. and then I realized it way playing dead. So I held it in the palms with my arms straight out. It lay there for a moments then jumped up and flew up on to a dead branch. It sat there looking at me, as if it wondered "what the hell just happened, and WHOOOOOO are you"?. I think they are called Saw-Whet owl as I've heard many of them in my neighborhood and they are very small. The only reason I think my cat had it was my cat is black with just a touch of white on it's head and maybe the owl say the white move and didn't realize it was attached to something much bigger. It was grand just to touch it even if it was just for a moment.

What a magical, truly special thing to get to interact with and care for wild animals! I love Great Horned Owls, especially the babies! I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and I'm lucky enough/blessed to live near the edges of the city, close to the rural plains and Black Forest....so I've had many nights where I can hear the local Great Horned Owls talking back and forth between each other! Sometimes if I hear them, I'll go outside and quietly sit on my front (or back) porch and try mimicking their calls....and sometimes they answer me back! I love it! My dream is to work with and help these beautiful creatures like you do! Thank you so much for all the hard work y'all do there to help the animals, and thank you very much for sharing your videos with all of us here! 😊💚

I thought them being on the ground was like, a really bad situation. I was always told they needed to be put back in the nest immediately or if that wasn’t possible then to a wildlife rehabilitation center where they can be fostered up until released. Because they are vulnerable down there to be eaten/killed/attacked by other animals. This baby is so precious I just love owls, barn owls are my favorite! There’s a nest of great horned owls next to my house, I hear chirping every night. I hear the parents hoots too. Gorgeous creatures.
