My husband is 86 I’m 75. He knows I love the primates. This is the most amazing program I’ve come across. There is only love here. I so wish I could do more. I will share it with anyone I can. Bless y’all for all you do for these precious creatures.
Just beautiful to see them get mommies and live like monkeys with their own kind. No primate should be a pet!!! Ever!!! They are wild animals and should live life as such. Thank you for all the hard work and letting us join along. Many thanks to Dave for starting VMF and everyone that helps.

Good to catch a glimpse of Jethro and Rox at around the 44.0 mark. Who can forget Rox's recovery from a leg amputation, not liking any of the Mums on offer and then going out into the troop clamped under the belly of male bodyguard Jethro? One of the more unusual things I've seen while watching these videos. Jethro will always be a hero monkey to me and Rox has grown up into a fine dark-faced juvenile. I guess the human carers provide the conditions for the proven integration process while being open to the monkeys finding their own solutions sometimes.
They are so small, sad that they lost their birth moms but so great that they found foster moms through your foundation. That they aren’t pets wearing diapers and clothes!

@28:08 I see a baby nursing or trying, I'm sure the foster moms are not able to am I correct here? I know when the males are at that age you have a vasectomy program but do you have a program for the females as well? I forget!
The mothers haven't given birth to these babies, so lactating is unlikely. Still, as they are mammals, it is theoretically possible. Now I'm not an official VMF staffmember--just a passionate groupie--but I believe only the males are sterilized.
I was also wondering if they altered the females. I know that sterilization helps to prevent health issues that can occur in many female mammals that never reproduce, but I don’t know that female sterilization is performed on these monkeys. If it is most likely done closer to the females’ menarche which wouldn’t happen until they are a bit older than 3 months of age.
I was wondering why the infants that are observed to be the 'clingy' ones and bond to and want to hold on to another infant are not taken first in an intro group and matched to a mom. I just wondered if this was something you have learned about velvets that is different from others. We found as we have formed up groups for integrations into different troops, we first try and break up any two that are exceptionally clingy but as often happens the very clingy one will just find another to clingy to. We found with several of the different primate types we deal with identifying the one that is going to go to another baby for comfort, and we can't break them off that if we put them with a mom first in the group by the time we introduce the baby they were clinging or any other infants as they have several days to a week to establish a mom/baby bond and are no longer interested in clinging to another infant even if we add in an infant they were at one time attached to most of the time. We had for a time held the clingy baby back and sorted others first, but when clingy baby was added they were some what torn between making a good bond with a mom and just going back to clinging to a baby they clung to early and often they never got there own mom but sort of went along as a second fiddle with the baby they liked clinging to and that baby's mom. At first, we thought that was not really a problem, more like a mom having twins. However, as we let this go on, we started noticing that there were some adulthood social issues that developed with the ones that went out 2 on 1 moms. Since it was not like true twins were both had a bond with each other one was bonded to a mom but the other did not have bond with a mother but clung to the one that dud and git some care and protection by virtue of always clinging on but apparently did not get a strong teaching of all things social and then it became obvious that the baby we though would be okay with o e hanging off herf and she had boned but then figured out that because another was clinging to her all the time apparently that clingy baby interfered with some social learning between the baby and mom. After now, 7 years of getting the clingy one bonded first so the bond was fully established by the time his previous clingy target rejoined he had developed a bond that really was better than clinging to another baby we have not seen the social issues with adults and females that were fostered without having another very holding on gave us adults that did not have issues raising infants as we had seen before. But we don't see velvets as they just are not usually or even at all, bred for blackmailed pet sales or fir labs. So I just wondered if doing the clingy baby first failed to work or some other reason existed.
there are many reasons for not letting the insecure ones first, firstly they dont tend to get off the mother for milk to go into feeding cages so dehydration and starvation become a factor, there is a greater chance of them being bitten as when the mom tries to remove them from her its virtually impossible and she could bite to teach them which would set the whole process back making the integration a lot longer, insecurity and confidence take time and we should always allow for this, its also important that each infant is evaluated and the integration done that will best suite them.

I’m very worried about Terri. Perhaps the cold concrete is too much for this little one suffering from respiratory illness. It seems she should be where it’s warm, sunny enclosure? Is she expending too much energy trying to keep warm, trying to play? But then again what do I know? It seems to me that the weather is cool. Caregivers wearing jackets.
