My 5 year nephew is currently obsessed with snakes and rattles in particular, I got a bunch of books for him to look at, it's funny hearing him tell me "snake facts" so according to a 5 year old you can pick up the baby's by the tail safty and if the try to bit the neighbors dog will come protect you. Lol.

That would be a good opportunity to teach him that a baby is just as dangerous as an adult. I teach my 2 year old that all snakes are dangerous and will kill her. When she’s older she can learn the nuances of snake conservation and that she can respect them without fear. My 2 year old saw the aftermath of my bulldog getting bit. Whenever a snake is mentioned, she recites the important parts as she remembers it: “Snake bit Brunson. On the eye. Daddy killed it.”

You know in Walton County where I grew up we never saw timber rattlers. Only diamondbacks. You go North of 84 in Alabama and you can’t hardly find diamondbacks. Only timber rattlers.

Where I am I’ve never seen a diamondback, only timbers. I have the impression they won’t share a territory.

I think those are the prettiest snakes up here although they make good .22 target practice

I believe that's a dusky pygmy rattler. That's about as big as they get.

I thought it was when I saw it on the road. But when I got out I saw it was a baby timber rattler. Compare its stripes to the round patches that pygmy rattlers have. Pygmies have diamonds or round patches, timber rattlers have stripes.

@@Florida_Bullfrog ok, good eyes. I'd hate to run into mama stepping around.

Call me silly but I like them better without their head.

I saw one yesterday in Loudoun County Va and it was just like this only tiny. Teeny tiny. He was dead. Someone ran over him with a bike.
