What a moment! In any other show of the time, the president would have been saved and things set back to normal. The writting knows that's the audience's expectation, but nstead of resetting the board at the end, this ep flips over the table. We see this from time to time in modern TV, but in the 90s it was unheard of.
I have been looking for this clip for years! Such a powerful scene. I always thought the ISN anchor was a great actress. This scene, when ISN went dark, and when they came back--all so well acted it seemed like I was watching a real broadcast!
The whole show. With the technology at hand at the time it dates. ( If someone re-did all the CGI and audio as a re-release it would be awesome) BUT The script and the story is second to none. I do not think anyone has planned out a show as well. From start to end it all linked up wether intended or not it all looked seamless and lines of dialogue in season 1, characters you then did not see seasons later... It was just perfect in that regard. Game of thrones started but as soon as they went off book and the brothers THOUGHT they had big movie deals (which all fell through) they went to wrap up the show and finished with terrible story, scripting and plot holes. Shows like LOST where the success meant extending to more seasons and the writers clearly getting "Lost" as a result of not knowing where to go... They did not quite do the start to finish perfection this show did. It may never be done again.
Oh what bittersweet irony that I was too *cough cough* ill to travel with my dear friend President *cough* Santigo! Oh what terrible woe that he should be taken and I should be spared! Calamity! *cough*
Its very different to all the other explosions in B5, its more like the hull simply melts away and then theres an explosion when all thats left is the girders. The Engines are literally the first thing which disintegrates but the explosion doesnt happen to several seconds later. It looks like the ships atmosphere was on fire throughout the whole ship burning hot enough to melt the hull in seconds. Perhaps the sabotage was a small explosion on the fuel tanks designed to flood the ship with fuel while ensuring all hatches and bulkheads were open, and then igniting the atmosphere.
Thanks to whoever posted this. I donno why, but being a B5 fan, I think Santiago, and the staff were killed by the shadows before the explosion, the explosion merely covered it up, in case they possibly survived the explosion. The show never quite delved into the physics of what constitutes a survivable space explosion. I wonder why earthforce one didn't give a signal they were running late, unless everyone on board was dead. But this scene had a lot of feels, and Ivanova's little scenes in season 2 helped reinforce the idea that this was traumatic.
It was not the Shadows. The reason they were running late was because Clark feigned sickness and got off on the station before the assassination took place. Assassination, in the form of blowing the ship up.
@@sdfried4877 Thanks for explaining so I didn't have to. Indeed, the way Morden explained it to Clark in that scene, leaves it open to interpretation. Santiago's death hadn't happened yet in the scene, so it could have been the bomb was planted, or that Morden had snuck shadow agents aboard. Either way, JMS did a great job putting all this together.
@@aaronlobliner7402 Morden used his contacts and spies to arrange the assassination, likely through some kind of sabotage of Earthforce One’s fusion reactor. Much of Morden’s dirty work was done through covert means and only occasionally involved bringing out the actual Shadow vessels.
@@sdfried4877 Specifically, Ivanova managed to snatch that transmission completly by coincidence, while hooked on the great machine of epsilon III and sent her own conciousness around the galaxy to search for the first ones. We never see Morden's face, but we hear his voice ensuring Clark that Santiago will never return from Io.
Jeffrey Sinclair was the absolute best leader of B5. I know now why the actor left the roll but, at the time, I was gutted when he didn't return for Season 2. BB just wasn't in the same class and B5, as a show, suffered massively for it.
Men and women are different which should be denoted by different uniforms. In the present day it is denoted by more obvious differences such as pants vs skirts.
Men and women's shirts close in opposite directions. It's easy to miss if you haven't tried to take off the opposite sexes clothes. That's how I found out.
@@Naptosis They're set up for people that are right handed: Men clothe themselves, but Women were dressed by maids so they would be flipped to be easier for the maids, who are predominantly right handed, to manipulate the buttons.
In the old days of wearing plate armor, the left pieces overlapped the right since you presented your left side (the shield arm) to the enemy. Men's clothing carried this overlap down to the undelayers.
i never understood why the president would travel thru space in such a vulnerable death trap .. wouldnt he have been much safer in a good ol hyperion ??
Well first, Earth wasn't at war with anyone. Second, it likely was a lot tougher than it looked. Third it wouldn't have mattered what he was in, the Shadows would have found a way to destroy his ship.
god no. A special destroyer maybe so he'd have gravity but could you imagine sending the president on a 0G ship? That'd be like sending the US president everywhere on a AC-130
