I traveled Melbourne to Tokyo specially to attend the concerts where this was filmed on the 28th and 29th of January at Makuhari Messe. It was an absolutely mindblowing experience to see them live in their full glory. This was their first live show in almost two years, so it was a grand return to stage for them, and for us as the fans to be there to welcome them back. Regarding the name, Babymetal did in fact start as 'babies', but that's not the meaning of the name. Babymetal started in 2010 when lead singer Sumetal (Suzuka Nakamoto) was 12 years old, and backing vocalists and dancers Yui-metal (Yui Mizuno) and Moa-metal (Moa Kikuchi) were 10 years old; the group was the brainchild of their producer Kobametal (Key Kobayashi). They have released three albums since then, 'Babymetal' in 2014, 'Metal Resistance' in 2016, and 'Metal Galaxy' in 2019, and their fourth album, which this song is taken from, is called 'The Other One', which releases on March 24th. The name 'Babymetal' actually has two meanings. The first meaning is that Babymetal represents the birth of a new form of metal that they call 'kawaii metal' (cute metal), which blends together Japanese J-pop vocals, choreography, and aesthetics with heavy metal music. The second meaning is actually a Japanese play on words of the terms 'heavy metal' and 'baby metal'. When written in Japanese 'heavy metal' is written as ヘビーメタル (hebimetaru), while 'babymetal' is written as ベビーメタル (bebimetaru); as you can see, they look almost identical, and when spoken sound very similar as well. Babymetal is an extremely varied band in terms of the sound of their music, and they are very difficult to pin down into any category except their own; they themselves don't recognize any definition for themselves except 'Babymetal' because they are completely unique. They do everything from bombastic Dragonforce style anthems in a song like 'Road of Resistance' (with guest guitars by Herman Li and Sam Totman), to djenty metalcore on 'Karate', to the Dream Theater inspired prog on 'Tales of the Destinies', and have even done a song inspired by tradition Indian music in 'Shanti, Shanti, Shanti', and a rap song 'BxMxC'. When people are exploring Babymetal for the first time, which we call 'going down the foxhole' (foxes feature heavily as a motif in Babymetal material for reasons related to the mythos around the band), they usually check out their most popular and well known songs first, then explore some of their more unusual or esoteric tracks later if they are so inclined. Some of their most well known songs that people tend to watch are: Gimme Chocolate, Megitsune, Ijime Dame Zettai, Karate, and Road of Resistance. When watching Babymetal, we always recommend that you watch their live performances, because in many cases the audio is better, but also because Babymetal shows are a theatrical production full of costumes, dancing, moving stages, lighting effects, video walls that all form a core part of the experience. Just listening to them is missing out on half the show. Oh, and be aware that Babymetal's management company Amuse are very heavy handed with blocking videos, so you might need to put a logo over the video or mess with the transparency get it past the copyright flagging system.

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's metalverse🦊🤘🌐 Nice first reaction, you just witness the start of a new BabyMetal era, after 10 years they already sealed Metal Resistance chapters and i think the best introduction to understand this project and concept is to watch this song: - _"Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!"_ live at Legend 1997 held in 2013, you can find a clip safe to react at Gans Tomas channel. BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute), mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms, the name is a reference to a birth of a new genre, and is a pun intended play words of heavy-metal which sounds similar to baby-metal in Japanese way of speak English (hebi-metaru / bebi-metaru), you'll find a lot of this pun intended in BM songs. They are: *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 25 *MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 23. *YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018. None of them are related. After that year you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them sing or have mic, they only dance, but that may change this year since they announced a new official member is coming. This is why BabyMetal have no match among any other Japanese artists, top notch worldwide. Many others are finding Game Of Thrones resemblance on this stage setup, it looks insane. The ten prophets are holding crosiers with "The Other One" logo which is similar to the infinite symbol "OO" and is the title of upcoming 4th album. The girls are carrying some kind of trident similar to the Spear Of Destiny or Lance Of Longinus from Evangelion series, fans know MoaMetal is skilled with this weapon and she can be dangerous 🔱 Here's some official info about this song: METAL KINGDOM (THRONE) _It is a powerful anthem ushering in the beginning of a new era while also representing the power and courage to step forward into uncharted territory. The track conveys imagery of one rising powerfully from the throne of silence, with a suitable fanfare announcing this new beginning._ At the end of January at Makuhari Messe they held two great live shows returning to the stage after almost two years. and by far they meet up my expectations with this epic live performance and top notch production. SuMetal and MoaMetal showing why they're a queen and princess deserving their thrones. The cinematic drone shots are just insane. We were expecting this live proshot version but we'll have to wait next month for live sound. We got so many big news and announcements, a new official member is coming (most likely Momoko Okazaki, the one who has been performing with them all these years and latest live concerts) next live shows in April 1 (Fox Day) when returning once again with another headlining shows at PIA ARENA MM Yokohama. Also they performed with a new BM mirror unit coming from another world of this metalverse, so we're guessing maybe some of the older kawaii metal songs they don't play anymore will be back with this new unit, so stay tuned for more but like always OTFGK. If you want more info about them, i highly suggest you "A BabyMetal Guide" by CrypticMisery channel but first try to watch "Babymetal Death" to avoid some spoilers. I'm gonna leave another suggestion in my next comment where to find safe clips to react. This is the opener of this new live show and first track of upcoming new album, horses comes in the next song "Divine Attack - Shingeki" official visualizer (that was the first single released in October 2022), after that you have "Monochrome" official lyrics video, another different song, and that's what you're gonna find in BM catalogue and more than 50 songs none are alike to another. You can find the official lyrics pinned in the comments but here's the lyrics translated for you in my next reply. Thanks for sharing this and see you next time!🦊🤘👑

I am one of those that traveled to Japan (from DC) just to see this live performance. Since BABYMETAL thrives on live, the Pandemic threw a monkey wrench in the works. BUT now we know that they had not been goofing off during all this time. Their lives are "grand shows". Most around me (many people from abroad and quite a few young ladies with twin tails -> you'll know the significance eventually) we were all in tears when this first song came up. There were three songs where my cheeks were wet throughout = METAL KINGDOM, Divine Attack, Monochrome), and if you go into the Foxhole, you will understand that in the same concert, you will have a huge crowd jumping up and down to their music, and chanting along. Also Mosh'sh Pits popping up everywhere is pretty common. I am a 74 year old, and listening to their "Road of Resistance", I was running around in the pit and twirling a muffler in the air, high-fiving fans around the pit. Can you think of many groups that are capable of making geysers like me do this AND bust my tear-glands wide open? - welcome to the world of BABYMETAL my friend.

Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 You have started BABYMETAL with the most recent music video filmed in the last month. I was there 😍 BM is the best phenomenon in music I have ever experienced in my 67-year-long life. Grington300 and Jakemuller explained gist of who they are. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

Su- & Moa must be descendants of the royal family that rose up to reestablish the 'Metal Kingdom'. In Japan, The two are like Princess Yuki, who tried to revive the Akizuki family in Kurosawa's old film, 'The Three Villains of the Hidden Fortress'. And I am Rokurota Makabe, the general master of the Samurai Corps played by Mifune, who protects Princess Yuki (in other words, Su- and Moa)!, (lie).

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Kingdom (Queendom?).👑🦊🤘 First things first, to answer your question, the name BABYMETAL is not about their age (although when they started in 2010 they were aged 12 and 11 so it probably did play a part too). The name was chosen for two reasons: - to symbolise that they gave birth to a new genre of metal music (kawaii metal) - because the writing (and pronunciation) in Japanese is nearly identical to the writing of "heavy metal" (and they love a pun): BABYMETAL = ベビーメタル (be-bi-me-ta-ru) heavy metal = ヘビーメタル (he-bi-me-ta-ru) 'Metal Kingdom' is the opening track on the album (being released 24th March) - so of course they used it for the epic theatrical opening number at their concerts at the Makuhari Messe two weeks ago. The video was released less than a week after the concerts they filmed it at, so it is understandable why it has the studio audio. We will have to wait for the DVD for the live audio. Being the opening track this one is very anthemic - they have over 50 songs now (this will be their 4th studio album) and each song is different to the last. They switch things up a lot - the only thing you can expect when you find another song is the unexpected, they are never boring ... and if you like unique I'm sure you will enjoy discovering BABYMETAL, they are not like any other band you will have seen or heard. They have always refused to be labelled or put into just one box, so they have songs in virtually every metal genre but will also mix or blend in many other musical styles or genres with the metal, usually when you least expect it. I'm sure you will get a whole load of suggestions and requests for more reactions - I'll kick it off with one of their earliest songs and their first major event outside of Japan - the song is 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' (you can call it IDZ - it means Bullying, No More, For Ever) live at Sonisphere 2014 in the UK. You may need to put a filter like a transparent logo or something over the video to avoid it being blocked.

Good reaction and welcome back to BABYMETAL. I think that the song itself is a freaking epic album and live show opener. And the way they put all this on the stage for the concerts is amazing as well as the video production including flying drones inside a crowded venue... but I guess that's okay. That was close, the horses galloping are actually for the next song of the album, "Divine Attack", which is based on the "Cavalry" theme (as the snippets they released from April 2022). There is only a "visualizer" for that song on their official channel... but I promise it has horses. 😁 Until next time!

Yeah, so the lead singer, known as Su-Metal, was 12. As she just turned 25 a couple months ago, this band has been the majority of her life. You'll find that they have changed drastically over the years and have done music from all over the "genre map", so to speak. They do a fantastic job blending metal with J-Pop and a bunch of other genres. The earlier stuff is more centered on just being fun, or carrying empowering messages for other girls. At this point, they have dived more into the storytelling aspect, but no matter what it's been, they've always done it incredibly well.

They were very young when BM formed in 2010. Su was 12, and Yui & Moa were 10. BUT the 'Baby' in BM does not refer to their age. BM is credited with inventing the genre of music they play. Its calied 'Kawaii Metal' or 'Cute Metal', and the word 'Baby' refers to the age of this new musical genre. Since the genre was brand new at the time, they use 'Baby'. Like a new born baby. It, BM, was just born. BM talks about this in several interviews. And YES, BM is heavy metal. Most of their songs have the 'chunky' guitar sound. Listen to more, you hear what i mean. And if possible, always listen to live tracks, because BM is more than just the sound. Its an entire sensory package.

The name BABYMETAL has (at least) three meanings: 1) Japanese wordplay on heavy metal. Only the first syllable/kanji is slightly different. 2) During their first live performance in 2010, the three girls were 11, 11 and 12 years old. 3) Birth of a new genre. They call it kawaii (cute) metal. Every BABYMETAL song is different than all their other songs. I mean really different. You say you like different s**t. I think there's a good chance you will like what BABYMETAL does if you listen to more.

No, their name had nothing to do with their age, simply with the japanese Writing of Heavy Metal. With very slight modifications heavy became Baby. Such games with the different writing systems in Japan is a japanese Tradition.
