To answer your question on crowd size, this shows crowd size was about 20,000. They also played Buddakan - 14,000, Wembly SSE Arena -12,500 and Tokyo Dome 55,000 (2 consecutive nights sold out). Not to mentions the various festivals like Sonisphere, Download, Rising Sun Festival, Heavy Montreal, Rock on the Range, Rock am Ring...etc... with crowd sizes from 30k - 70k. Most of the venues they play on their world tour dates have capacities from 8-12k...some bigger some smaller depending. They have opened for Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metalica, Korn and Stone Sour, and Lady Gaga After having their second album debut at #39 on Billboard's Hot 200 (first Japanese group to break into the top 40 in over 53 years) and being voted the Best Live Band in 2016 by Kerrang! magazine, Babymetal tickets are now some of the most sought after in the World Music Scene today.

Man, it's always great to see Babymetal win people over. They expect some half assed teeny hard rock with squeaky flat notes, and what they get are top notch musicians, top notch vocals, top notch choreographies and a top notch live performance of top notch Metal. And the good mood you mention at the end is the essence of Babymetal, they are just synonymous for fun. When was the last time Metal has made you smile like that? I hope you will react to more of their songs. This is probably one of their most "pure" Metal songs, they have a wide variety, some more kawaii, some more metal, the only thing they don't have is a bad song. They like to combine different genres with Metal, be it Hip Hop, Reggae, Ska, Techno or Drum&Bass. And every time you hear a new one you will think "Damn, how do they make this work?". Also, this song only hints at the awesomeness of Su's vocals! Many people fall into the fox hole by their third song, and I have the feeling you won't be an exception. Demographic is literally everyone: ages 4 to 80 and up. 1/3 of the fans is girls/women. The little girls want to be like them of course and they dress up like them. But grown up women dress up too (cosplay). And at big shows there is usually some grown up guys dress up like the band too. But mostly everyone loves the music, the extremely high-energy pounding happy music. Babymetal circle pit is one of the best places in the world a popular travel destination too. :-) It's not uncommon at a metal/rock festival where Babymetal plays that the pits are the biggest of the festival LOL Ohh and it's an awesome stage too, the walkway you called it is actually more like a bridge, because it came down during the concert. The metal spirit path they are forging is their own take/spin on metal. The song is literally about what they are doing. The background vocalists have their own songs as well ! They do a lot of harmonizing, they actually have some of the heaviest songs of Babymetal ! :-) One of the elements of Babymetal could be described as: what would it be like if little girls were bad-ass rock stars (and they are not rock bitches). Yes, these type of songs are epic. The guitarists of Dragonforce wrote the guitar parts, but some other Babymetal songs are also great powermetal songs. I was a metal DJ on the radio for a couple of years in the early 90's. (I also did aluminum siding, radio paid like crap! LOL). I interviewed Napalm Death, I interviewed Odorus Urungus! I took my girlfriend on a weekend trip last year to see Lamb of God, Behemoth and SLAYER! Babymetal is LEGIT! They are really probably my favorite band. They prove that Metal is a living thing. They took two genres that should go together about as well as orange juice and toothpaste and somehow made it work! They also show that you can be unique and be yourself and as long as you do it with a good heart, nothing can stop you. I don't know about you, but that sounds pretty good to me! And there are a lot more people like me as you will come to find out! Judging by your reaction (we were all exactly the same way!) you will see that it actually gets better and better the more you delve into the Foxhole (The Fox God is Babymetal's guiding force). As hard as I took his (Dave Brockie's) loss, Mikio Fujioka's (RIP) passing is the one that I took very badly...like the feeling of losing a relative or something. It is so strange, I still can't get through some of his solo music without losing it. I'm actually choking up now just thinking about "Three of a Perfect Pair".
I hear you. I only discovered Mikio's amazing variety of solo stuff on RU-vid after he left us. I was knocked sideways by his cover of that song. (I've been a fan of King Crimson, especially the Belew stuff, for decades.) Mikio pours passion and soul into it.
Saw them last Saturday (2019/11/16) at this same venue and the demo in Japan is young, old, men, women, and children. Outcasts, salarymen/women, kids cosplaying as members. Seeing Grandma and Grandpa out on the floor in their old Babymetal tour tees was an eye-opener. Throughout the entire show everyone was completely invested, just letting go and having a great time. One of the best performances I've seen in a long list of live shows. Are they riding horses? Yes, right into the Metal Resistance.
Nice reaction, Babymetal do tend to take a lot of people by surprise. The whole concept of the band was developed around Su-metal and her voice, she was previously in a J-pop Idol trio called Karen Girl's when she was aged 9 or 10 and that was where the Babymetal producer Kobametal (a lifelong metalhead) saw her and her talent and thought that her voice was just so strong that it would be wasted in pop and that she could even front a metal band - or this fusion of metal with the pop style of singing that Su, Yui and Moa do so well. Their music videos are good but they are at their very best playing and performing live backed by the magnificent Kami Band. No two of their songs sound the same and they mix most genres of metal (thrash, power, Viking etc - even prog rock) in their own way along with other genres that will take you by surprise (in a couple of cases there are two or three genres all in one song). I would suggest you try Megitsune next (that even incorporates the melody from an old Japanese folk song into a really heavy breakdown), but any live performance of any of their songs would be good, they don't have a bad one in my opinion.

Hello Juniio, I was very entertained by your reaction to BabyMetal. I am a 54 year old Metal Bassist from Miami, and I take my music very seriously. I have been a BabyMetal fan for about a year now, they are, without doubt, one of the greatest groups ever. The demigraphic of Babymetal fans is about 30-40% female. They did 2 concerts a few years ago for fan club members, 1 night was all male and the other was all female about 5k each night, and age range is 5 - 85. As for Japanese female bands, there are a lot of good ones Band Maid, Aldious, Lovebites, Mary's Blood to name a few. Lovebites won best new band at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods awards, the 2nd Japanese band to win it, Babymetal being the 1st in 15 years.
Japan has a bunch of awesome rock/metal bands, and especially the female led or all female bands . I would recommend Babymetal's cover of Soul's Refrain which is a cover of an anime song, most people seem to skip this.. Also some other bands to check out are Band-Maid, Mary's Blood, Bridear, and Wagakki Band.

BABYMETAL is a whole new world if you travel deep into the lives of these 3 amazing women. Even in their idol school Sakura Gakuin was so intriguing. Their debut was November 28th 2010. Suzuka Nakamoto was only 12 and Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi were just 11 years old. Su-metal turns 21 on the 20th of December. BABYMETAL was created because the 3 were in a sub group of Sakura Gakuin, the METAL group. There is so much more for you to experience. You'll either love them or hate them.

Moa and Yui are technically "backing vocals," and dancers, but their official credit is "Scream and Dance," and are in charge of the crowd call/response and dancing. They do sing traditionally in some songs along with Su, like in Meta Taro and The One, and some in their Black Babymetal songs, though mostly those are more rap-like.

On your question about the demographic. That's one of the amazing things about Babymetal, the demographic is everyone! If you go to any of their shows you see everything from hardcore metalhead dudes, to kawaii anime girls in cosplay, middle aged couples, it's really fuckin awesome to see them all enjoying it together.

South America, Mexico, USA and Europe, especially the UK. 3 concerts upcoming in the next week(?) in Australia. In Japan if it's an all admitted concert I would guess 70% male from ages of 12 to 70. Your preconception of the group is a fairly common one. Most people first heard of Babymetal when their RU-vid video of 'Gimme Chocolate' went viral. That was one of their more "Poppy" songs and gave the "True Metal Heads" an excuse to bash on them. But as you just saw, there is a great depth to Babymetal. Now, British Metal crowds have been known to throw bottles of piss at acts of which they disapprove, however, with no rehearsal and no idea how many people were in the crowd until they physically walked up onto the stage(60,000+) they got on stage, played their set and at the end, left the crowd chanting "We Want MORE!!" Babymetal is great. It's all about energy and feel good metl and having fun. Su the main singer has a unique and powerful voice great for metal. And their show are always top notch. They DO put on a show, don't they? This wasn't an "opening" for an anime, though it could have been, but a closing encore. The hand gesture they make is NOT the "devil horns" but a shadowplay Fox, their "spirit guide" if you will, the one who called forth Su (lead vocalist) Moa and Yui(backup and the Black Babymetal singers- yep Babymetal even has its own subgroup) to spread the Spirit of Metal across the land. This is why the fanplace is called The Foxhole. At the end of the official video of Karate, they do the Fox coming out of the den to vanquish fears and doubts.

Su-metal (the lead singer) has a great voice, great control and great range. The backup singers are Yui-metal and Moa-metal. Every song is different and range from cute kawaii to heavy metal. Su, the lead singer, is so good. the band is one of the best in japan. she was 16 at the time of this video. the other girls were 14. dragonforce helped them with this song. as some have posted, Babymetal was formed as an experiment. the creater found Su when she was like 12 or 13 and realized how strong a voice she had and formed the band around her. most bands find a vocalist after the band is formed. how many 16 years old do you know that can do this? Babymetal created their own genre of music.

I would suggest Sis Anger because it is Yui and Moa duo performance and the sound is more hardcore that you wouldn't believe. If you want more on japanese band. i would recommend Wagakki Band and their Senbonzakura M.V.
I really like your reaction, Babymetal is a very special and unique band and Suzuka (main vocals) is a powerhouse! There are a lot more of Babymetal to discover, but other great Japanese bands are Band-Maid, DOLL$BOXX, Maximum the Hormone, LiSA, Dir En Grey, Scandal, X-Japan...and loads and loads more ;) BTW, you kind of remind me of a very young Kirk Hammet in a way :D
