It was the first song they did in English, because they realized they had so many English-speaking foreign fans that they wanted their fan tribute song to be something they could all understand. The Japanese version of the album had it in Japanese, and the international version of the album had it all in English. This video is the only version that goes back and forth. Su-metal was just starting to learn English at the time, so I think they may have gone Japanese for the lines she had trouble pronouncing, like the word "world." I never realized it, but there are three consonants at the end of that word, and it makes it very awkward for someone used to speaking only in "vowel-consonant-vowel-consonant" like Japanese. Plus, L and R are the same sound in Japanese.
Another great reaction and glad you both like this so much! This is such a good song and really born out of mutual respect and love. The girls noticed that when they were going overseas to perform that the people there were learning Japanese, or at least how to pronounce the words in Japanese to sing along with their songs. They decided that if the fans cared so much about them to show that type of respect, that they should challenge themselves to reciprocate and make a song completely in English. This version is the one with some Japanese in it, meant more for their Japanese fans, but they do have a full English version. The video was shot at their Yokohama show in 2015, which was also the debut of the song, I think...I could be off on that. The triangle they make with their hands is to symbolize "The One". At the end of their shows, they always call out "We are" and the crowd responds (with help from Moa and formerly from Yui, as well) "BABYMETAL!" and this is meant to say that every fan, the Kami Band, the girls, etc. are all part of BABYMETAL. They were totally safe here, as the safety bars were in front of them and they had safety cables and harnesses (thus wearing the cloaks to hide the harnesses, I'm sure). Moa said that she was more upset about having to focus on the choreography during this because she really wanted to just smile down and wave at the fans, which is the most Moa thing ever that doesn't involve food! I don't know if there is any real connection between the fox sign and "The One" sign. One goes along with the lore of their backstory, and the other came about for their fans, but there are others who have been fans a lot longer and would know the answer better than I do.
The story behind that is amusing some critics and haters called there music bubblegum pop/metal so in response they did a song about a mint flavoured bubblegum time machine as a middle finger

The triangle represents the three parts of Babymeal one side is the girls, one side is the fans and the bottom of the triangle is the band, so when they come together at a show you have BABYMETAL, with out all the three of them together you only have part of Babymetal.
@@autohmae I have all ways seen it that way from the first time I sore a vid of The One it is what Yui and Moa are doing as with there hands as they are singing it "We are The One" they hold one finger up with one hand, "You are The One" they hold there other finger up with there other hand, and "Together we are the only ONE" they bring the Triangle together with there thumbs so the bottom has to represent The Kami Band. Now they have bean asked on occasion in interviews if the Kami Band were part of Babymetal and there all was gave the same answer "Only the Fox God knows" but SU was asked that same question since she turned 20 and is for age, SU did not give the Fox God answer she gave a SU answer she said "There are seven of us who work very hard to bring you Babymetal. The name Kami Band is just to say who they are "The Spirit Band" or "The God Band" depending on witch way you want to say it, but the name do's not separate them from Babymetal. ⚡ 💀 💕 / ▲ This was filmed at Yokohama Arena in December 2015, so almost five years ago. I can assure you that everything went fine. The version on blu-ray goes on for quite a while until the pyramid was safely landed. : ) This music video has the audio from the domestic (Japanese) release of the Metal Resistance album. The international release of the album has an entirely English version of this song. Oddly enough, since even this version has a lot of English, this is the only Official Video with English captions. Even in Japan, they usually perform this song entirely in English. Recently they have been starting off with the softer "Unfinished version" before going into the heavier version.
I had the luck of seeing them perform this song last year in Tempe, Arizona, where I got to stand fifteen feet in front of Moa-metal. The dimples are very real and only more adorable as she has gotten older. The girls are smol, but larger than life in person. I hope you get to see them live one day. You guys have watched the original Japanese version. There is an all-English version, which is what you would've gotten if you bought the album from overseas. Personally, I like the original version better.
The fox sphinxes are an ode to Iron Maiden, who had an Egyption themed stage for a tour. They use a triangle a lot, I believe it symbolizes the three girls. Babymetal is the meal ticket for a lot of people, I am sure they were safe up there. Check out No Rain No Rainbow - Legend S

That hand move doesn't seem to be anything special, they did it only on this performance on the song (Yokohama, 2015). During the Metal Resistance era they usually closed the concerts with this song and made really special performances for it: the triangle hanging here on Yokohama 2015, the live viewing from Japan during Wembley 2016, the 55.000 lighting neckbraces on Tokyo Dome 2016, the dressing and smoking cloud thing on Legend S 2017... The song was premiered here at Yokohama 2015, played for the first time. Moa declared that she was so scared that she didn't want to even move her feet, but that the triangle thing gave them the chance to see every person in the audience face and realize the true dimension of how many people were going to watch their concerts. The One was born as a riff of the song *Tales of the Destinies* and are meant to go together. They are together on the album and were played together at Tokyo Dome the only time *Tales of the Destinies* has been played live, because that song is crazy. It is probably the most emotional performance for Babymetal fans, similar to Wacken's Ghost Love Score for the Nightwish people. I felt as if the length of this song was only 30 seconds and wanted to listen to it forever. Full English version, like performed in Philadelphia last year (uploaded by Eevee Martinez), is also super. This was certainly an epic end to that concert. What they don't show in the video here is that the pyramid the girls were in exited above those fox statues into a bright light and a video played that had them flying off into the Sun. We love a space theme.
They had announced Wembley Arena show just a few days before I think and then after this concert announced the new album, the new world tour and Tokyo Dome.
The triangle is a symbol that they often use in context with The One and throughout their stage design. It's generally interpreted as having two meanings. 1) It symbolizes the "Holy Trinity" of Su, Moa and Yui. Moa has even talked about the triangle being a strong, powerful shape and that they always had the feeling that the three of them together could overcome every obstacle. 2) It's supposed to symbolize the unity of The One. Also, how they bring their hands together, forming the triangle, symbolizing the coming together of the fans and BABYMETAL.
If you want a experience with the foxhole......you have to watch one Sakura Gakuin with Suzuka Nakamoto, Yui Mizuno, Moa Kikuchi and the nine other girls. Whom I also know the names of but that's for you to figure out. Either "Song for Smiling" or "Graduation Toss". This is when the three girls were doing Sakura Gakuin songs and other club songs. There is more than one version of graduation toss.

Pretty certain the stage is actually a reference/nod to Iron Maiden Powerslave. :-) And strictly speaking it's a triangular-based pyramid. A normal pyramid has a square as it's base, this has a triangle.... because everything in 3s because Babymetal is all about the 3 girls/young ladies. The hand sign is also a triangle. Sometimes Babymetal girls among fans is lovingly called "holy trinity" as well ;-) At Wembley Arena in the UK, which was the first arena show outside of Japan, we knew lots of fans from different countries would be there. So some had the idea to organize that fans from different countries would bring a flag of their country, 3 per country at most. And then during The One near the end of the show lots of flags went up. Babymetal was streaming this concert live to Japan and they had also planned their own 'bring us together' moment during this song, they put up the fans (in the middle of the night in live streaming movie theaters) on the big screen. So we were all connected, from around the world. These kind of things can make grown men cry LOL And no you are not creepy. They are more like adorable nieces if that makes sense. Babymetal has never tried to be sexy, etc. it's not part of their image. They are very protective of that image too. One or more photographers made a photos for a metal magazine as action shots and the girls got their legs up doing kicks and thus it shows the underside of the skirts. Their is nothing to see obviously. Otherwise it wouldn't even be published. But in part because of that Babymetal now is more strict about what kinds of photos people can take and publish. Babymetal had at Budokan a fall of Yuimetal from the stage, this made them put up new barriers for the next day and this performance you just saw, the girls are standing behind a guardrail and are tied to the center with a steel wire and even Su-metal's microphone had a steel wire to make sure if she drops it it wouldn't fall on anyone. Now that last part seems very unlikely. Nobody holds on his/her microphone that tight as Su-metal. :-) She is holding it like someone lost at sea holds onto something inflatable. And Yes,I would also recommend: Tales of the Destinies, a more technical song...
Who knows how many listens, and I still get a lump in my throat when I hear Su-Metal sing the lines "Remember, we are on your side. You are the one, remember, always on your side."

The Triangle symbol was symbol the 3 big concerts 2015 in Japan. Saitama Super Arena, Makuhari Messe and Yokohama Arena. The One official was from the last concert 2015 in Yokohama. Road of Resistance Live in Japan official was taken from the first of these 3 concerts in Saitama Super Arena.

I agree with James. I find it .... frustrating that in this day and age it is typically considered creepy for "older" men to enjoy something sung by young girls. If you're watching because they are young girls, then sure I can agree, but lets face it. This music is just so good and so powerful, that even IF there WERE "older men" who originally had bad intent when watching, I would make bets that once they listened to the songs, they'd forget the reason they started watching in the first place. If you're watching and enjoying the music, then who cared what others think. Feel the music, and let it take you on the voyage it wants to take you on. Su-metal said it better, but I can't remember how she said it.

But most people in the fandom are all different races, genders, ages and love all different genres of music and they are all great! No shame in what you like! I'm 54 and love Babymetal. I don't know why the maker of that video felt they needed to make that comment. I assume they are a fan themselves so should know better. I love this version of the song because Su's transition from English to Japanese sounds so good. It makes my ears happy. Yep, Moa has her dimples, Su's got her ears and Yui has her chubby puni puni cheeks. 🙂
Unfortunately there are folks out there who don't like BM and claim it's mainly for "creepy old men". Just had a comment in that vein under the BMTH EP review from The Needle Drop. It's just stupid and so not true (as you can see with all those BM reaction videos from young girls and guys on YT). But haters gonna hate anyway. :-)
The maker of the video is a young woman. As girls, we're more likely to feel a bit uncomfortable about the large amount of older men in the fanbase, especially when the girls were young teenagers. I understand now that the vast, vast majority of male fans are completely supportive and not dirty-minded, that they generally view the girls more in a protective way than a sexual way. And of course there will be more male fans because it's a metal group and men are more likely to find them in the first place. However, I've also seen some seriously nauseating comments in Babymetal groups, and even a page dedicated to photos taken up their skirts. We just want them to be safe is all. I think the video maker's intention was to call out the creeps but it really came across as lumping all the men together. Not fair at all, but it comes from a place of concern

It's not surprising at all there would be a lot of pervs but, since I don't look at the FaceBook groups, I don't notice it. As a rule though, I would feel more uncomfortable with the people playing the perv-card because its those people who have demonstrated an inability to watch young girls without turning it into something dirty. They are the ones suggesting girls have nothing to offer but but to be eye candy. Not in this case but I mean when it's other guys playing that card.

The guys who immediately call the Babymetal fanbase pervs are certainly projecting. The fact that they can't see any possibility aside from sexualisation is concerning. It's good seeing that the majority of their fans are great. Even so, I'm glad their company have been so strict on privacy because the very few dodgy fans can cause a lot of harm if they're given the chance
there is an english version on the album that was released in europe where they sing the whole song in english, i dont know about the american release but there is also the japanese version of the album that has more songs on it
Moa said about this show that while they were flying over the crowd she wanted to wave to everyone but the producer wouldn't let her break choreo. I'm legit surprised after so many years Moa hasn't done a stage-dive yet, especially at one of their (sadly infrequent) girls-only concerts. Moa prefers to associate with ladies. Especially Su. Mostly Su.

The girls were perfectly safe, they would have landed on a soft cushion of love (OK, that might have been too much, I apologize). :-) You mentioned correctly that this was a love letter to the fans, The One. But what makes it even more touching is that the reason for singing it in English is that they were so touched by many of the fans trying to learn Japanese to be able to sing along with them, that they wanted to express their gratefulness in this way. This is what makes this video so emotional for me, when they are hovering over the crowd‘s outstretched hands you can practically feel the love in the room.
This was an earlier performance of the song. It is now almost exclusively performed entirely in English, even in Japan. You should check out the song on their new album that is often compared to this song, Shine. It's not in English, but it is a calmer song like this. It would also be a great song to check out right after this, because it is a good example of her voice growing between the two albums.
A quick note about this concert. Shortly after they had just started out as Babymetal, Kobametal took the girls to a concert at this venue, cant remember who they went to see sorry, and told the girls that one day they would be up there in front of 1000's of fans. The first time I saw this vid I thought it was dangerous until I realised the fans would throw themselves under them to save their fall, no fans like Babymetal fans. I actually prefer this version rather than the all english one.

excellent content... LVT-Metal lovely as always, and Max-Metal, they do have an all English version that they play these days, it gets you right in the feels. My recommendation is "From Dusk Til Dawn" a very cool tune and one more thing, there is nothing wrong about loving the best band ever.

The video is a compilation of several concerts. In interviews they said that they were scared to get into the pyramid and Moa said she didn't look down because she didn't want her tears to hit anyone. Keep in mind they are High School students!! Being afraid of heights, Babymetal has done MANY things that give me anxiety. They have actually had Yui fall off the stage from about 7 to 10 feet up.
There is an all english version but iff you want to see Su at her emotive best you need NO RAIN NO RAINBOW. 🌈⚡✨🌟. and you should also check out WHITE LOVE that she did when she was only about 14yo. A very good effort for someone so young. 🎉👍😎
You guys should check out "No Rain, No Rainbow," it's another Su solo song, but the concert took place right after Yui left (their first show without her I think) and also Su's 20th birthday. At that point Yui was still a member, but was unfortunately unable to perform at the two 'Legend S' concerts in December 2017. You're right that those were the first shows she missed, and she hasn't appeared on stage since. She officially left the group in October 2018, ten months later.

Also tip: while this is usually one of the last songs of the concert and some fans then remembered: "ohh, I've not crowd surfed yet. Quickly do it now." Not everyone appreciates that during this quiet song. Best to wait for the next song. :-)

I don't think there's a connection between the triangle/pyramid hand gesture and the kitsune hand gesture, but take note of how the hand choreography follows the lyrics: Moa and Yui sing "One for all" and raise up one index finger, then "All for one" and raise up the other index finger, then a bit later after some Japanese, Su sings "We are the one, together, we're the only one," then Moa and Yui sing "You are the one" while bringing both their index fingers *together* to form a pyramid, then Su "You are the one, forever, you're the only one. We are the one, together, we're the only one."
