YOUR FACE IS KILLING ME BUT SAME! what was that uninspired mix of money by lisa and bona bona by treasure +the mv looking like every single blackpink mv in the past all together?!?! Yg truly really can't differentiate their groups conceptually and stylistically. They all look and sound basically the same with really small variations. It's incredible how they have been recycling the same style, aesthetic, music and concept for something like 10/15 years. It's possible to keep intact the identity of the company while giving your groups a unique concept and style. You look at exo, shinee, tvxq, nct, rv, snsd and you can always say: they are sm. But would you ever say "damn nct is such a copy of shinee" or "aespa and snsd sound literally the same"??? No, never. Other agencies can do it too. At this point yg is just heavily uninspired and lazy. All this hype and preparations for what? Something they could have given blackpink 3 years ago. Yg hit the jackpot with 2ne1 and big bang and decided that would be their sound and concept for tje next 30 years. I'm bored.

We tend to blame Teddy because his production is so linked with YG but this comeback actually has me worried for YG's future as a company. Because they are now copying Teddy's sound without Teddy and its much worse. At least, it seems he has some midas touch to make this formula work. With YG himself getting into more legal trouble and Teddy looking like he may be defecting, I am beginning to think the company itself may be getting absorbed by something bigger like Hybe in future (cos they would want Blackpink).

Crying at your reaction to the chorus and the ending…I had the exact same thoughts. I was hoping they would take note of other 4th gen GGs and come with something fresh…it’s too competitive out here and this is not cutting it! Even the name BabyMonster is essentially the same concept as Blackpink and there are too many similarities here to ignore. Like they really ended the second rap verse with a “brrr” gun sound just like Lisa in Boombayah 💀 The lyrics are a mess too like “remember me” in the prechorus…no we don’t remember you we don’t even know you yet this is your debut! I agree though they are so talented and feel bad for them to debut with this. I hope better for them in the future but I was so disappointed in the lack of creativity here.

You are 1000000 percent right on everything you said. THese girls are really talented and the company is jacking them up. Just because they are a big name company they are just lazy and throwing budget on basic. THESE GIRLS ARE NOT BASIC, and they deserve so much more, THEY deserve their own style, their own thing. I literally saw a thumbnail on another reaction and without my glasses for a second I thought they were watching BP - Shut Down video the scene in the street. Do better YG. I really want to support the gilrs but this is just sad.

Finally! An HONEST review because I swear I was being gaslit by folks about this song. It’s a Blackpink song - which wouldn’t surprise me if they rejected it. You can pinpoint exactly which verses each member would do, down to the delivery of certain lines. And the chorus and choreo is basically Lisa’s Money! 🥲 These girls have nice voices and can dance, but YG should’ve used this opportunity to try a new concept with a girl group. This concept doesn’t even look like it fits them. I listened to one of their pre debut songs Dream? I think and that was refreshing. Also…down with repetitive choruses and outros! Still hope these girls are successful though. I feel bad for them tho.

What's even funnier is that they delayed this group's debut to "enhance the quality" and I'm like WHEREEEEEE???

that’s what i’m saying. as someone who followed them since the beginning, i was expecting more. and i’m not blaming the girls, they delivered what they needed to deliver. i’m blaming yg. i’m blaming them for not investing in good concepts, in good production and, for lacking creativity and for not being able to make good use of the girls’ potential. they have all the means and resources to up their game. but they did not. this unfortunately felt like a bad parody of bp & 2ne1. there was nothing about the video that screamed babymonster to me. it felt like babyblackpink or sth. and that sucks bc the predebut videos showed sm of their individuality and identity as a group. and since we were getting a lot of r&b and hip-hop, i was expecting more of that sound. but ig yg is stuck to the same ol’ formula.

as a blink AND blackjack since the verrry start (2ne1 lollipop was my introduction to kpop) it’s crazy how yg refuses to let go of the formula they created well over a decade ago and just pass it onto every new gg they debut. blackpink definitely made their very own mark on the world despite having a very similar concept to their predecessors but it’s just cruel to these new girls to use that same old concept when there’s absolutely no market for it. how are these girls gonna survive as one of the first big 4 gg’s in the 5th gen when everyone else is doing it better? such a disappointment

YG doesn't care about the art work behind the scene. They only care about the youtube view records. They know fans are still denial and defend them for being a lazy company. So it'll always be the matter of the quantity, not the quality. YG ent need to learn from XGALX to make their talents grow organically.

my thoughts exactly. Some people make excuses for YG, like "it's the YG sound!' but excuse me, YG is NOT the Artist. Like SM is known for their "experimental music" but you can CLEARLY define an AESPA song vs a REDVELVET song - I'm not thinking omg it sounds like any other SM song. And even if they stuck to just the HIPHOP genre, there's so much room for experimenting in there, like literally try ANYTHING else, throw in a gottam cowbell or something interesting DEAR LORD

I am a YG stan since sooo long ago, mainly because the talent in that company is out of this world, they make the trainees kind of go through hell (which am sorry for) before debuting them that they become really good performers. However they're ruining every single group. Winner, IKON had sooooo much potential, great songs because they produce it themselves, but bad marketing and not enough investment. treasure was supposed to be great, but they are just lost, and now babymonster. the amount of talent is really big, but all the work those trainers put into these idols gets wasted by whoever takes over the groups once they debut

Yes the only reason Baby Monster has a competitive chance is because they are under YG and are BP's juinors. So Kpop stans will give them another chance. I think they might be counting on that and hopefully will do better when Ahyeon can join them. Batter Up would have been okay I guess as a pre-release but not as a debut song. I have been tired of whiny blinks getting mad at me for years saying that YG has gotten lazy in the creativity department with their music and especially their MVs most noticeably since BlackPink's DDU-DU DDU-DU/KTL. YG has always heavily relied on their idols' star power/presence and to carry the music this is especially the case with BP. And have been lucky to scout idols like GD that can produce. Maybe the rumors are true that they have not had a visual director for a while now. The MV was an uninspired combo of YG's style and forced high teen concept

I really feel bad for these girls. They have been trained in singing and dancing for 7 years just for this flop song and plain choreograph. Their energy in dancing and facial expression are lower than average YG’s standard. All of them look like a teenage girl group trying to do a dance cover for high school show. Chiquita is the only one who seems to enjoy what she is doin. However,I don’t blame the girls , they’re all talented but there must be something wrong with YG

THE FACE haha, my hope (which is probably useless, knowing YG) is that they made the debut SO YG-esque, just to almost present them to the public making sure they know BM is a YG group, and their comebacks will have more unique music. However, if they want that to happen YG needs to not be involved in the writing process, and a new producer needs to help write the music. It is cool to know Asa did help to write and compose some of it tho.

I kinda feel bad for them. In 4th/ 5th gen, you have amazing talents and girl groups like KissofLife, Aespa, Xg, NewJeans, Gidle, StayC etc. I remember seeing everyone hype tf out of this group saying they would top the charts, outdo my faves etc. And unfortunately knowing YG, I knew they weren't going to utilize the girls talents to the fullest. With this song I was very disappointed. Since with yg they are known to give their groups a big debut, however with this it’s nowhere near close and it didn’t help that it’s only one song. Like if there was more my opinion on this debut would of changed dramatically for example le sserafim like ‘fearless’ wasn’t a strong debut song but the album helped me enjoy them more. Also I found out earlier today that YG isn’t doing anything with them ie music shows, like they aren’t even promoting them in Korea. Now onto the song it felt uninspired and reused either it be the sound or setting it was nothing new. Also I hope this wasn’t just me that thought that the “party” chorus a Disney channel song?
