Recorder technique requires the finger lift because the hole is covered by the finger and not a pad as it is on the flute. With a flute you only need to lift the finger enough for the key to reach its maximum height and the pad lifts to the maximum. With a recorder you need to ensure that the hole is completely uncovered.
@@mahlonrhoades4509 Yes, I am a Director of a School of Music. I teach beginning flute. I play recorder in a professional quartet. She still lifts her fingers off the instrument much higher "than the norm". Watch Michala Petri, Danish soloist, she does not lift her fingers half as high off the instrument. My comment was my observation and astonishment of her ability to play "presto" passages with her technique. (By the way, professional flutes are "open hole")
