Thank you for choosing Schiff to this video, I think he has the best interpretation of this piece

Agreed. I particularly enjoy his very muscular approach to 'Echo'.

@@johnvalentine4720 Yes! The echo is fantastic.

It’s certainly very strong but I think Sokolov edges him out

Personally prefer Richter's. Schiff's is great too of course

I cannot imagine anyone to perform this piece better than Andras Schiff. He has been studying the music of Johann Sebastian Bach for nearly 60 years !

To me this is the greatest suite Bach wrote. All the movements are fantastic, though the Passepied and Echo is one reason why this suite is so special to me. Schiff is in absolute god mode in this performance (and indeed, the rest of the french suites + italian concerto from the same concert!?). Makes every movement dance as it should, and also makes it all sound so easy (we can only dream it is..). One small thing about is playing that shines to me is his care with all the ornaments, to me it's like every trill is never rushed and has just the right number of notes!

well said aidan. His playing here is out of this world. This rendition is like a session of "soul" therapy.

Definitely peak Schiff, the recording is out of this world, the Overture is just perfection as is the rest to be honest

I cannot imagine how someone is able to memorize such a complex piece ! Most people are not able to memorize it in a hundred years.

Just need to learn the language, then it all just connects.

On RU-vid I have even seen him play, entirely from memory, the complete English Suites in a recital in Budapest and the complete Well-Tempered Clavier Books I and II in two recitals at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

C’est une question de “passion”. Ce qui nous anime et nous porte plus loin…

When Sokolov set the standard for playing this work (Colmar 2011, YT), all other versions became suddenly redundant

I love Schiff's playing. I prefer Sokolov's tempestuous, dynamically varied interpretation of this piece. Schiff's version is too restrained for me.

I love Sokolov and everything he plays is perfection but he can't help but let his virtuosity get the best of him at times, he plays the Overture at break neck speed, whilst super impressive it loses some of its angelic qualities imo
