I keep coming back again and again to Mariam's performance of this beautiful concerto. There is such a delicate finesse in her playing; often pianists showcase their technical mastery and the music suffers as a result. Not so with Mariam who becomes the vessel for the music. I love it that she takes a back seat as it were and lets the music speak for itself, be it Bach, Liszt or Tchaikovsky. She brings listening pleasure to thousands across the world and we can only be thankful for her dedication.
Mariam shows that being the Prizewinner of the Franz Liszt Competition was absolutely justified. Not only playing Liszt's pyrotechnics but also Bach. A true and honest musician.
If you just close your eyes and concentrate yourself on the sound, you can easily perceive how this performance is authentic and in line with the European traditions of performing Bach.
Wonderfully well done. Why quibble about a Bach transcription played on a modern grand piano? Given all that Mariam gets to the heart of the music. She really seems to have the magic touch - never banging - grandstanding. Brava girl! Hope to see you here in NY in Carnegie Hall ... soon!
Mariam shows why Bach would have been playing on a piano if he had one available! Subtle, and more capable of showing emotions than either harpsichord or organ. And her playing is the epitome of clarity and balance. It is always lovely, and for other pianists, educational to listen to her play.
(4/23/20) Hey, everybody, this is Bach's keyboard TRANSCRIPTION of Marcello's Oboe concerto. Bach is Bach but I can't listen to this after hearing the original. The original is sublime.
Quelle musique!
US English version: To Mariam Batsashhvili: you understood everything. Locatelli and J. S. Bach, Locatelli the J. B. Bach's way. What an honnor for Locatelli! You will have adversity. Like would say Salieri in the "Amadeus" of Milos Foreman, your talent is unbelievable, unacceptable...Good luck in your carrier.
Alexoid Bushuyevich Do yourself a favor and listen to the original, the oboe concerto by Marcello. If you do, you'll never come back to Bach's transcription.
When you look at a diamond, do you look at it from different angles? The genius of Bach gives us an opportunity to see another bright facet of this brilliant work.
@@alexoidbushuyevich8818 You (Bach is God) people are so boring. I thought I'd try to improve your dismal lives by giving you just one example of how Bach ruined a vastly superior work. An example of how one of Bach's pieces was rescued from Bach's pedestrian "Largo" by Ward Swingle. BACH WAS A FLESH AND BLOOD HUMAN BEING. HE WAS NOT A GOD. Give him deserved credit, yes, but please stop your blubbering. You guys make me sick.
I can't watch her since her demeanor is almost comically serious. That being said, this is remarkable and very unique playing. I think her playing really captures the color of the oboe original (as best as a piano can.)
MARIAM IS EXCELLENT 👍👍👍 but WHY call it Bach Music 🤪🤪🤪 if it's MARCELLO Marcello MARCELLO 😡😡😡 This is CHEATING , this is dishonesty , this is plagiarism 🎉🎉🎉 Bach did only ARRANGE it for keyboard . Shame to the uneducated Musicologists .
Since a boy I ADORED Bach , now kind of think he was a cheater , SO MANY Masterpieces are hurriedly assigned him , whilst been of others especially VENETIANS : Vivaldi Marcello Albinoni : WHAT A MUSICAL FRAUD , shame ! ! !
Don't be a moron. In those days, music travelled in part through transcriptions and copying - if anything Bach recognised good music. He even did a German version of Pergolesi's Stabat Mater - it literally takes nothing away from the original.
