I love Bach and I love synths. The C minor prelude and fugue from Book 1 of J.S. Bach's 48 Preludes and Fugues is a standard for keyboardists, and is a lot of fun to play. In this video, I perform the piece on an Oberheim OB-X8, with original presets designed by myself. If you dig this, check out my performance of Bach's Prelude and Fugue in C sharp Major (Book 1), performed on a Prophet 10: • Bach Prelude and Fugue...

Always loved Bach done on the Synth. I still have my copy of Switched on Bach from the early years of synths. A moog was used on that album. I love the sound of the Oberhiem. Keep making these.

This made me wonder exactly what Mr Bach would be doing today - what he would have made of the music tech and the wider range of acceptable scales and intervals? I think he’d have liked the technology present in synths like the Oberheim, which are really just an evolution of the organs he composed and played on. I’m not sure what he’d think of generative music technology or AI, but he’d definitely be attracted to the mathematical functionality of modular synths and MIDI. My mind boggles when I think how the ideas of relativity and quantum physics might have influenced his music!

This was a refreshing surprise! I always love Bach on synth, too. That said, I think could play Bach's music on rubber bands and comb kazoos and it would sound as beautiful as it would on a string quartet. Bach's music transcends. How great to see so many views on this video too. On to your P10 video ...

the second part of this I have been searching for about 40 years now! Bach was and is teh master of mathematical/ logical/ symmetrical musical patterns. To someone like me with ADD and autism it is almost like a secret code that makes more sense than any language. Beautiful playing. Would love if we could transport JSB here now in a Time Machine. Let him have a crack on ...well, everything!

I learned the Prelude portion on accordion, which is a _itch on that instrument. Bach always sounds great on anything, if you can pull it off. Using the synthesizer as you’ve done is a logical extension of harpsichord and organ. Enjoyed it immensely!

@@jimlieber2225Oh I own all of Wendy Carlo's early classical stuff ;) I meant J3PO. There's lots of youtube stuff of synthesized classical, but not much of it is actually performed by competent musicians. Most of the stuff out there is MIDI ran through hardware (which can be cool... but it's not quite the same).

I don’t have anything really against Japanese synths but for sheer heart and soul American synths seem like they have some living musically aware being inside them be it analog or digital .. the moogs, oberheims, prophets, ensoniqs.. the other underrated ones are the Italian synths which have a certain panache to their sounds..

damn this is dope! Do you find it hard to play Bach on a synth? Bach is challenging enough on piano, I find it way tougher on synth with the key weight being so much lighter
@j3po784
@j3po784 5 месяцев назад
I don't find it particularly more difficult than playing on piano, just different. The only real way which it is more difficult is trying to bring out the voices with a patch that has velocity sensitivity. For various reasons, it's tricky to make a patch that allows for the type of dynamicism that you'd have on a real acoustic piano. But then again, Bach wrote this music for instruments that weren't velocity sensitive.
