Suppose I will start off by saying that I am a self-taught pianist with almost 9 years of experience. I started off learning songs primarily through synthesia tutorials then switched to learning songs by ear and with sheet music. Throughout my years I’ve learned songs from games, anime, pop music, and classical pieces. So, with all of the knowledge that currently have I will try to answer your questions the best that I can and give some advice that will help to steer you away from the problems that come with self-learning. This is going to be a long explanation, but I’ll try to cover most of the basics. Also I can try to find videos that I used back when starting out if you'd like. What is the most streamline path to learn to play any song? What you should do first before learning any song is get a little familiar with the piano. Learn the names of the keys, the numbers associated with your fingers. Once you’re a little familiar you should start learning proper form, the C major scale, and developing finger strength. Developing your finger strength is crucial for playing faster and more difficult songs. NOTE: MAKE SURE TO WORK BOTH HANDS!!! Also, beginner song tutorials can help once you’re a little familiar with the piano. I suggest you watch Amosdoll music's geometry dash tutorials and use some easy sheet music to start getting familiar with sheet music. I'll explain why later. Being self-taught myself I know the benefits of moving from genre to genre and the music genres within the piano niche as a whole can be listed in 3 difficulty categories, Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Here’s the simple list based off your comment though. Beginner - Game music Intermediate - Game music, Anime music Advanced - Anime music I would recommend that you start with game music because there’s an abundant amount of easy/ beginner level tutorials for game music. Pop music would also fit in here. There’s also an abundant amount of anime covers but I would say that they are either intermediate or advanced difficulty. Although there are beginner level tutorials out there, they are nowhere near as plentiful. So a little recap, start off with game music and once you feel your ready you can dip your toes into anime. Should I learn with Sheet Music or Synthesia? I have been playing piano for almost 9 years and 6 of those years were spent learning songs from synthesia tutorials. Learning with synthesia is easier than using sheet music to learn at first but it does have its draw backs. So you will get better and better over time and you will develop a lot of what I like to call raw skill (speed, accuracy, and dynamic control) but on the other hand you will plateau due to the lack of certain skills that sheet music provides. Sheet music can be a little confusing at first but with time it gets easier to understand. Using sheet music to learn songs will push you towards having better technique but this is dependent on the sheet music available to you. Which brings me to tell you about the biggest con when learning songs with sheet music, accessibility. Most sheet music that you’ll find through RU-vid videos are locked behind a price tag which makes synthesia tutorials way more appealing as a source for practicing. You might be able to get around this with the Musescore app or website (Musescore has free sheet music for you to use) but there's always the chance Musescore doesn't have what your looking for. Now with all that said here’s what I think you should do. If you are fine with paying for your sheet music, then go for it but if not try to find free sheet music or learn by ear, synthesia will instill bad habits that can take a while to unlearn. If you learn how to read sheet music and can learn songs by ear (learn by listening) you can make your own sheet music like me. NOTE: IT IS GOOD TO READ A BIT A SHEET MUSIC EVERY DAY EVEN IF IT'S NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO PLAY. Best to get familiar with it so when you find a song you do want to learn it doesn't take ages. How long will it take if I just focus on anime song? How long it will take you to be able to learn any song the way I do depends on how much you practice and the quality of your practice. Now don’t take this as “PRACTICING 4 HOURS A DAY EVERY DAY WILL GET YOU TO MY LEVEL IN X AMOUNT OF MONTHS/YEARS” because practicing piano is game of quality over quantity. As mentioned before for 6 years I mainly used synthesia to learn songs and practiced and played the piano pretty much all day. When I started making sheet music for my covers and myself, I noticed a lot of holes in my technique and started catching up on all the controlled targeted practice that I skipped and focused on building better technique. So don’t only practice songs by playing them over and over and running through sections. It’s better to focus on playing one scale slowly and correctly for 30 minutes a day than incorrectly for 4 hours. NOTE: PRACTICING WITH A METRONOME WILL HELP KEEP YOU ON BEAT I know you said you would like to skip the classical stuff and I’m not saying you must learn any classical pieces, but it will be beneficial for you to watch advanced pianist play some classical pieces. While watching them you should listen to how they are playing and see how their hands, arms and fingers are moving. By doing this you are giving yourself a reference for good form and technique. This doesn’t only apply to classical music though, it applies to anything you want to play. Watching the pianist’s movement will help you understand how you should move when playing.

@@LockePiano Thanks for such a detailed explanation! that was really really helpful, cleared alot of my doubts, so from what i understand, i need to get familiar with piano first, learn about notes and all the beginner stuff, then i have to dedicate a specific amount of time in my routine, to develop a proper form, technique and finger strength, after that i should learn about chords, scales and rhythms. I should also dedicate some time to learn sheet music, because that will help me in the long term, but since learning songs with sheet music is going to take some time, simultaneously i can use synthesia to learn some of my favorite songs that i've been wanting to play to keep the journey fun.
