I've always assumed that Otis being a male cow was an intentional thing they did as a weird joke or gimmick knowing full well that isn't a thing in real life. Not really a funny joke but eh.
I guess they thought a cow was funnier than a bull. Cows are generally considered more humorous while bulls are generally considered moe dangerous. It makes a dumb kind of sense when you put it like that. Only that why not just make it a female coded cow that has a bro attitude?
It was indeed intentional, the director of the show (Steve Oedekerk) thought it would be funny and that city folk didn't know male beeves don't have udders.
The story on how the voice actors were shouting "dick tits" until an executive at Nick came in through the door and the VA for Otis said "What are you gonna do, cancel us some more?" is freaking hilarious.

Being castrated wouldn’t affect that. Castration just means removal of the testicals. Despite certain myths, male can still feel sexual pleasure without them, they just can’t impregnate a female. This is part of why dogs that are neutered may still hump things.
Isn't a heifer (pronounced the same as Heffer's name) what a cow is called before she gives birth (which is apparently what makes a cow a cow, because before then, you can't milk it, and, a cow you can't milk? Come on)? Seems a weird name for a bull to name his son.
When I was a kid I read an interview in the official Nick magazine with the series creator. He said Otis had udders because they though it was a funny and stupid idea.
But that doesn't make any sense, I mean what would the difference be if Otis was a bull? Nothing really expect for no milk but milk from a Male steer would be pretty gross. Even I found it gross as a kid.
@@sebman6031 Even as a kid I knew it was wrong. I heard the reason for Otis to have utters was so City folks would know that Otis is a steer. But everyone knows what steers look like, including city folks. No one is that stupid to not know what steer look like.
@@Nameless82284 but just as I mentioned, the creator said himself to the Nick magazine, that the only reason behind it was that utters look stupid on a bull. They knew it was wrong, and they expected it to be funny to little kids, altought it just ended up as awkward
I actually consider this show to be a guilty pleasure. A lot of good memories of this show for me, especially the babysitting episode. That shit was hilarious.

So the modern animation answer to Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and the sitcom w/ very little to do with the movie. Then again, same could be said about Cooley High and What's Happenin' (and its 1980s follow up)
Also BatBY's cows all have udders because the animators thought that's what cityslickers thought cows looked like. Also cow is a catchall, but cow is a female that has given birth at least once, a steer is a castrated bull, a heifer is a cow that hasn't given birth, and a bull... well, its got the nuts.

Tom and Jerry had amazing slapstick. The Three Stooges had amaazing slapstick. This stick is probably so bog standard that you wouldn't even bother using it as a stave.
Actually, there is no such thing as a female steer. A steer is a castrated beef bull. Sadly, there technically is no neutral singular of cattle, so the colloquial standard is to just use "cow" when gender, sterility, or usage are irrelevant.

Back to the barnyard was my favorite show when I was child (plus the movie) I remember the time a ghost cat posses everyone I knew and almost killed them all in order to live again. This show wasn’t mean to be taken seriously which makes sense as they almost die or get hurt a lot. It was trying to be one of those shows that had no real plot and just be a cartoon. It’s a bit weird as it’s 3D animated, but for the most part dose it’s job to be funny at times. And yes Otis “milk me” is meant to be “fuck me” like when you say when life kicks you hard in the balls. In my option I don’t think the show is that bad, but could it do better? Yes it could and I kinda wish it did. But for what we got it’s not bad unlike Fanboy and ChumChum. Also Otis is the best trans male character change my mind.
Demanic The cartoon OP os talking about is a Mexican animated movie about some anthropomorphic roosters and anthropomorphic eggs, plots about a sxrawny teen rooster trying to become a boxer so he can win money to save his farm from shutting down, not really similar to Barnyard, but if you look up the movie, the animation style looks partially similar Ah and The title is actually the English localization, in Spanish it’s called: Un Gallo con Muchos Huevos, ‘A Rooster with a lot of Eggs’ And huevos can also be slang for balls or guts(?)

The comedy gets old really fast. I'm surprised it got three seasons. I was also shocked when I caught Nick airing the movie. It was vastly different from the series. The show's title makes to think it's a sequel to the film, but it's not related whatsoever. The girl cow Abby even had a different name and model in the movie. She was a completely different character.
to think I'd remember the movie of Barnyard being good............... But however the show itself of Back at the Barnyard not so much it's just random gags thrown in with characters from the movie with little to substance at least Jimmy Newtron got it right
One correctional note. “Snotty Boy” was actually named Eugene Beady. The animals just call him Snotty as a nickname, but his aunt always called him Eugene.
I remember loving this show so much and feeling that the movie was alright. From the voices to the lines and the pure oddball humor, it was pretty damn entertaining. I can see how some would dislike it, but I'd recommend it for people who wanna have a fun time and want to watch something while their brains are turned off.
Brandon Millian he’s a character in this British claymation-live action RU-vid series and his head looks like a squash with two Doritos on the side. Despite the name, he never gets angry once, rather, making other people angry/annoyed.
Whatever happened to Daisy and her newborn son, Little Ben? You know? The love interest from the film that supported Otis, inspiring him to become a better bull. That she named her son after Otis' late father. 💔
Well, bovine or cattle would be a more accurate neutral term for both cows and bulls. Steer refers specifically to a male bovine that has been castrated. Since Heffer refers to himself as a steer in Rocko's Modern Life... I'll just leave you all with that mental image.
I would say that THIS was one of the Best Nickelodeon Show (Alongside with SpongeBob SquarePants) in my Opinion, it was THE BEST and THE GOAT, because it has Slapstick Scenes on it, it was Funny, and that's why it was the Best Nickelodeon Show (Alongside with SpongeBob SquarePants) in my Opinion.

0:40 Going to have to correct you on this one. Steer refers to a castrated bull, the species is either referred to as cattle or even just cows, when talking about a group. Which actually is kind of weird, cause multiple bulls can be called cows, but a singular bull is not a cow and... yeah, not even going there.
Pretty much the only thing I remember about this show that was outright positive instead of "meh" was their industrial fan in a specific episode having a setting that said "Surrender, Dorothy"
0:31 I have a similar problem with that when it comes to male kangaroos with pouches (Penguins of Madagascar and Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog has those), female peacocks with beautiful feathers (Hero 108 has this, Skylanders SuperChargers nearly when with that idea but one of the kids testers told them about female peacocks not being colorful in reality so they scrapped it. BTW, female peacocks are called peahens. Collectively, we call them peafowls) and male mosquitoes sucking blood (A Bugs Life had it)

I honestly love this show, it's hilarious and I die of laughter every time I watch an episode. It's clearly not for everyone but I think it's severely underrated.
