Back Channeling (Giving Feedback) 

Back Channeling in linguistics, a back channel during a conversation occurs when one participant is speaking and another participant interjects responses to the speaker. (wiki)
In ASL this is accomplish especially through facial expression and single sign utterances such as, OH-I-SEE, wow, head nodding. Show the speaker you are engaged, this even includes saying you don't understand.
