Back from the Brink! CAR WIZARD's $700 Turbo S Beetle restored to almost new! HOOVIE test drives! 

Wizard is the only man, who has ever made me even consider a new beetle

I haven't been watching The Wizard for long; he's still fairly new to me. But I've already seen over 50 of his videos, so that must mean his channel's got a certain appeal. Bravo.

We have owned a 2002 Black Turbo S since January 2003. Bought it from original owner at about 10k miles. About 166k now. I really love this little car too. 2 clutches. 2 water pumps. 2 timing belts. 1 after valve destruction. Half shafts. Alternator. New condenser (hole). ECM flash to eliminate pass key. New cluster. The list goes on and on, but will prolly never sell him. Darth Bug.

I remember when this fantastic machine made its way on the scene. I’ve always wanted one but as I grew older the desire was abandoned. It is so great to see two friends interacting in a car video like this... pretty much opposites in most ways, they go together well and bring out the best in each other! The icing on the cake is having Mrs. Wizard behind the camera... putting in her two-cents worth. If I see a new Hoovie or Car Wizard has been posted, I click on it right away and hit the thumb's up button before it even starts playing. Because I already know that I'm going to like it!

The 2004 Volkswagen New Beetle Turbo S is now complete and it is now reliable enough to be on the road for a long time. Also, it has the 1.8 L turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 180 horsepower and it has the six-speed manual transmission. These older, Volkswagen New Beetles are great vehicles to buy. Thanks.

You could make some money selling shirts with that War Tortle logo that is on your back window.

Handing the keys to Hoovie is one of the bravest acts of kindness, Wizard. May I say that the sound is excellent, it probably helps that both of you wear Lavalier mikes. Kudos to mr. and mrs Wizard!

Great show, Wizard. This is such a cool little car, I have essentially the same car with a different body shell, albeit tuned to 210 hp from factory and with Brembo breaks. A SEAT Leon Cupra R from 2003, not sold in the US, you'll find them in Mexico and Europe. I did almost 300k km to this little 1.8 turbo engine from new. Much respected little car in Spain where I live.

When Tyler made the left turn off of the dirt road, he turned onto Hoover road. I'm not kidding!

My wife has a beetle and she loves it. The car manual says, put a flower in the vase overningt to give the car a fresh smell in the moring, but remove the flower when driving.

This was a great collaboration. You two should do your own Wheeler Dealer series. I think it will be great. Hoovie will be Mike and Car Wizard is Ed.

I had a MK1 Skoda Octavia vRS with similar 1.8 engine. Replaced the clutch with Carrado VR6, custom exhaust & ECU mapping modes. Made a huge difference to performance. 👍 But after a few years the gearbox dead. Sold it to a VW mechanic. He was happy.

Wizard is the most patient person ever, hoovie is like one of those kids in school you had to include into your circle of friends because all the parents are close friends and if you didn't include said person a whole lot of pain and sanctions would reign down from the top and effect the whole group of friends..🤣

7:00 Why doesn't anyone use carbon fiber weave for a headliner fabric? Just glue it up and leaving it as soft fabric. Tint out the back windows.

Got a super clean "Silver" 02 Beetle GLX just waiting for plates before it hits the road. 2.0L 5 sp....sunroof...CD changer.....16" aluminum wheels. Did all new brakes...rotors, calipers, flex lines, EB cables. Frt struts with springs. Bought cheap so we about $2500 Canadain in so far I did all the labour as well. It will be my wife's daily driver but I look forward to some fun in it too. Great videos guys.....love your channel !

In my 2001 Golf TDI, I lost the AC and heater core at 320K miles. I decided to do both at the same time. It's not the dash that cracks or breaks when it comes out, it's all the little plastic bits that are never the same again. Things like the center console where it screws to the dash parts snap off, as the plastic gets really brittle. It does go back together fine, but there are gaps where there weren't any and little spots where you wish it was back to the way it used to be. On the other hand... I had heat and AC afterwards, so YMMV.

You can really tell how close Wizard and Hoovie are. A great friendship and I enjoy it when they both do video's together.

I have about the same project going - a yellow turbo new beetle from the auction $675.00. It had broken a timing belt and bent all the exhaust valves. I checked a few videos and decided to drop the engine out the bottom.. that was a first for me... so now all I have to do is get it back together and running ... I'm surprised at how much interest there is in the car.. I wont keep it like you are .... good job

I had one of the original Turbo Beetles (the 110 kW version) back in 2001. I went to my local haberdashers and bought more gerberas. The local V8 hoons always hated being beaten at the traffic light derby by a dude in a New Beetle with 4 flowers in the vase. Best troll ever. Not a very reliable car, but it was a hoot to drive.

Would have been to see Hoovie pulled over for speeding and running that stop sign.

My husband bought me a baby blue 2004 bug for my birthday. It’s my dream car at age 63. It’s refurbished with a new engine by our friend who is a mechanic. I absolutely love my car. 🚙. My husband wasn’t fond of VW beetles and yet I found him sitting in it listening to a CD😂 i asked him if he was enjoying his new toy🤣

My first car was a 2000 beetle turbo and it is to this day still one of the funest car I've ever driven there sneaky quick

It makes me very happy seeing you restore a turbo S. A reflex silver TS was my first car!

My 2001 TDI Beetle is only worth about $200-300 because it has 287, 000 miles on it. But I'm the ONLY owner and driver it has EVER had and I have every receipt. It costs more to fix things than it's actually worth now...but I still get 50mpg and it's still cheaper than a car payment. I need a headliner now. Just did brakes x4 myself and now I have to fix the heater flaps inside. I still have the original vase with a white VW daisy in it. I have a new Volvo, but I'd rather drive my faithful old bug. It's been the most reliable car I've EVER owned...and believe me, I've owned SEVERAL!

Glad to see a video of someone driving the Turbo with some umfff. Most of these videos don't even show someone driving the thing.

Wizard, this VeeDub is an absolute Jewel, and I never was a Beetle Guy

Only thing wrong with the turbo Beatles is in the rear.. the rear bumper cover has two cut outs for exhaust but wizard did a double all on one side.. I would have put each one on its side with a wide oval or square tips to match the bumper cover cuts..

I just love how humble and simple the CarWizard is 🥺

The VW six speed manuals are very nice to use. Never driven a Beetle but drove a Sharan 1.9 TDI with the six speeder and even though the car was just a people mover, it was good to drive with the nice snappy six speed box

The hardest part is pulling the bezel around the stereo... The dash comes out fine if you are careful to get all the screws.

Your AC Heat problem is the foam dividers. Notice when you put the fan on it blew out crap, thats your separation vent made of cheap foam. Most VWs that year do that, its a real pain to fix.

In Romania to change the timing belt and the water pump - parts and labour for vw touran costs about 300 dollars

The thing with the timing belt cost would apply to most used vehicles around that mileage anyways. So the timing belt/water pump cost could also apply to a used vehicle bought from a dealership/private party. Edit: The main reason I bring this up is because it’s probably the most precise thing done, and the one thing I’m not entirely comfortable doing myself. Lots of the other cost are very diy friendly for someone who does most the work on their vehicles. Other than welding a new exhaust on, which isn’t really necessary.

3:44 that little weird thing is the vacuum reservoir. 7:35 mam, buy that cheap part, and you can access the control lever from the bottom passenger side dash. Tight fit, but you can get it.

With Hoovie driving it's a good thing no cops around! Hoovie has 2 speeds...off and overdrive.

Im not sure if we got the Turbo S in Australia, I did go have a look a few episodes ago and found Turbo models but not Turbo S as I was looking to replace my Hyundai Accent shopping cart and buzz box which has no real soul to it.

Got my TSI and Dsg software tuned at an award winning tuning shop for 1000 EUR in the Nederlands. Not cheap, but made it much more drivable!

I saw one of these cars for months in the neighborhood. It looked like it hadn't been driven and it looked like there was Moss all over it and as it turned out yes there was Moss all over it and it also had mold all in the inside of it. I put a note on it that I was interested. The owner called me and said he was going to send it to Pick-N-Pull and they were going to give him $500 so if I gave him $500 I could have the car. This was 3 days before this was supposed to happen and he said the car started and ran and there was nothing wrong with it except for the moldiness. But when I actually had the money and I went to go start the thing it would not start. It acted like a security issue with the key or the ECU. I used to be a mobile locksmith and if you cut a key for a Volkswagen and you just try and start it it will start right up but then it will die and that's what this car did. Long story short the guy just needed to move the car and didn't really need the money that bad so I talked him into towing the car over to my house which was only a mile away. I said I'll work on it and I'll get you your money because I'll probably buy it no matter what. He was happy with that because he had been ticketed and he wasn't doing anything with this car anyway. I went through this crazy diagnosis process of trying to dry out the vehicle get the battery charged all of this stuff what eventually fixed the car was I took the gauge cluster out and took the back off of it and I cleaned all the connections of the gauge cluster with some anti mold product that was not bleach. I just took a microfiber rag and I wiped all the back of all the electrical connections on this cluster very softly with a little bit of cleaner on this rag. I was going to send the gates cluster out to be repaired and I was going to send the ECu out to have the security immobilizer deprogrammed. None of that was necessary as soon as I put this gauge cluster that was cleaned back in all the lights worked in the car started right up! It's a black version of what you have. It's a 2002 beetle turbo s 6 speed with aluminum pedals and the little fin and the 17-in wheels and it comes with bigger bumpers and the 180 horsepower engine and I got this thing for 500 bucks and now it runs!

I could not get either La sabre or the Marquise you recommended, because the owner informed us he was the place we were renting, now money saved is going for moving expenses, just plain life circumstances. But will begin saving up again after we settle into our new place...

Tyler Hoover will not be able to see the Turbo S Beetle, because the Car Wizard just sold it. The next time, Hoovie shows up at the Wizard shop, it will be the 2016 Toyota Highlander XLE AWD mid-size SUV, that seats eight passengers and it will be a better fit for the Car Wizard. He does not need or want a minivan, because he already has an old pick-up truck and an older land yacht.
