BACK IN LIFE

In July of 2005, Zack Weinstein was canoeing with a group of friends down the Saco River, in Maine. While jumping into a shallow part of the river, Zack broke his neck. At nineteen-years-old he became a C5-C6 Quadriplegic. In service to others facing life-altering injuries we teamed up with Zack to create "BACK IN LIFE". Our hope is that by sharing Zack's powerful experiences, the film may provide others with needed strength in an oftentimes daunting struggle.
Feedback:
"I think that the 14 minutes that I spent watching "BACK IN LIFE" are some of the best minutes that I've ever spent. I am also a quadriplegic who had a diving accident July 8, 2004, approximately a year before Zack's. You all have a true gift and talent for capturing "the real story" in your work.
Thank You." -Taylor Price

I've worked with many patients with life-altering, catastrophic illnesses and accidents. It takes the combination of pre-morbid personality, post-morbid outlook on life and disability, maturity, family and friend support, and a touch of magic to weather these incidents as well as Zach has. Great job, great film.

I've seen videos like this, but what makes this distinct is the message at the end that Zack gives, and the fact that he doesn't deny his reality that he is disabled and all that he lost, yet that doesn't disable the essence of who he was without all that. My cousin once get offended because I refer to disabled people as not normal. I disagree with that, I dont' like the fact that some people had to deny the reality of one's physical current state in order for them to accept those people.

The first thing I noticed was the date you added this video....April 6th. I too became a c5-6 level quadriplegic on that date back in 1994. It happened while driving to work that morning and I hit black ice in a snow storm. Like you, I have a positive outlook on life and also and angel to help make my days uplifting. [we just celebrated our 33rd anniversary in June]. Keep your chin up young man, life must go on. ''You're an inspiration''. Ivan

Great video. A friend of mine fell off a ladder and had the exact same movement level. He lived an extremely full life of 72 years. He was an inspiration to tons of friends and taught me to enjoy everything life has to offer. Again, this video was great to watch!

He's a tetraplegic because he can move his shoulders and biceps but not his hands. Christopher Reeve was a quadraplegic. There are actually very few reaal quads as their chances of surviving are low.. Zack you are a really great guy. Thanks to you and your friends. Superb film. I hope your arms develop more strength over time.

I've been in a wheelchair ever since I was born, and I SCUBA dive with a group of mostly people with spinal cord injuries- ever since then, I've really grown to respect people like Zach who bounce back from an injury like this. When you're injured like this, you don't lose your sex appeal- you become one of the sexiest people on the planet. when you're injured like this, you don't become sad or pathetic- you become a member of the badass club. I hope people come to understand that someday.

I was watching this before I had a meeting to go to for school...and...I am almost in tears...but good tears. Like...tears of strength if that makes any sense. This was amazing. It was touching, and it was honest, and it really hit me hard as a singer/songwriter and film maker that I want to show people's stories, whether in a documentary type, or a narrative screenplay...so thanks for this video. This has definitely helped me with my own personal struggle. This is awesome.

I will never look down when i could always look up at the brighter side of things. Keep fighting your forever in my prayers. Thank you

My cousin is a quad, too, so this means a lot to me. He was in a car accident where a truck ran over the hood of his car, causing him to lean forward at such an angle that he broke his neck and was in danger of breaking his spinal cord. Luckily, the truck stopped. Unfortunately, he cannot move as much as you can. He can sort of move his arms, but that's about it. Thank you so much for making this video. It really means a lot, especially if you are or know someone who is a quadriplegic.

Thanks real380. Everybody can get some inspiration from Zack, forget pity. I'm proud of how he's moved forward and kept his life through all this. Silas, you did a great job with this video and Jesse, way to be the best friend you can be. I hope you get the use of your body back Zack, just never give up.

Zach I hope you realize what an outreach this video is for people who have not been blessed with the support you were blessed with. I hope, as your wish says, that many people who are in the emotional and physical turmoil of this sudden life change do contact you. You obviously have part of your life's work set out before you and that is to extend yourself to other people to help them.

In Belgium there is a famous athlete Marc Herremans, his dream was to become the best in something. He wanted to win the Iron Man in Hawaii but in 2002 he had a bicycle accident and was paralyzed from chest to toes. He continued excercising and in 2003 he became 3d in IM Hawaii handcycle division, same place in 2004, in 2005 he became 2d and then, in October 2006 he achieved his primary goal: to become the best.
