I've one of these on a 5L E motor, simple, strong, slow and noisy but I absolutely love it!! Its done well over 470 000km so far and still going strong 💪
Who restitched your dash? The ride is quieter without the snorkel (less wind noise). There is an aftermarket air suspension kit for the J120 if you want a softer ride and have the cash, but I wouldn't mess with that for it sort of makes a wonderfully reliable car somewhat less reliable. The paint on these also doesn't hold up very well over the years if parked in the sun for extended periods. But those are about the only gripes I have with the car ... and a leaky sunroof, possibly due to a clogged drain.
Thanks for your reviews, so informative. I just purchased a J120 Uk 2002 and am sourcing for a reliable mechanic to team up and build it up to seamless condition. Haven’t been lucky yet as Im abroad. Kindly recommend a specialist(mechanical and transmission, and also body and interior)
Cheers, good purchase and good luck. I don’t trust anyone with my cars and even when the mechanic is working on it I am there watching everything. So find someone you know has done work on these cars before, and carefully go through what the car needs. Good luck!
Cheers buddy ! It really depends, Just go with the garage that you believe will give you the outcome you’re looking for at the price you’re budgeted for. There are so many garages in nairobi
Nice machine... I have a prado 120 2.7 petrol.. My problem is that at night I can't see adequately... Any advice on the best bulbs and a good electrical mechanic.. Cheers.
Brilliant review like always! How reliable is the 3.4 L 5VZ-FE ? Have a 2004 up for grabs alongside a 2004, 2.7 2TR-FE both with under 150Km's. Which one would be a better option? Thanks
Cheers mate! I would go for the 3.4L, it’s got good power for the 120 series body size. Fuel economy shouldn’t be too far off the 2.7, all depends on how you drive
Thank you so much for the amazing review. What are the downsides of a diesel engine compared to the petrol one? Any benefits apart from fuel economy per litre?
Petrol is simple. Diesels abit more complex as diesel is a dirtier fuel hence more components needed to keep the engine clean. Injectors etc can be pricey and negate the benefits of fuel economy . It really depends… For me a prefer petrol. Sounds better, cleaner, high revving power, easier maintenance . Cleaner fuel.
