It's track-only, so no. In my mind, a true supercar still has to be road-legal. These track-only experimental cars are always fun to see, but I consider them in a separate category to supercars and hypercars.
By far top gears best host, doesn’t try and be Clarkson, talks stats instead of nonsense, knows how to drive, doesn’t hide his personality… this guy needs a raise Pronto
@@helicocktor The two of them were stablemates at Evo Magazine for its glory days, Jethro and co-founder Dickie had plenty of call-ups for racing and track events too. Jethro was considered the house 'lunatic' by Harris.
Finally - Jethro ftw . Please just have Jethro do all the content, especially when driving is involved... and skip all the writers/presenters who lack any skill behind the wheel 🙏
Dosen't this thing have any urn signals which I HONESTLY don't think you'd need if this was a track only vehicle..MOST CERTAINLY WOULDN'T WANNA LET YOUR OPPONENTS KNOW WHAT DIRECTION YER GOING I'D THINK🤔🤷♂️🤨HMM..!!??
2016 Ford GT GTE back to lemans instead GT40 2017 Ford GT road car launch, powered by 3.5L TT V6, 647 hp 2019 Ford GT Mk II launch, 700+ hp 2020 Road car upgrade to 663 hp 2022 Ford GT Mk IV launch, powered by 3.8L TT V6, 800+ hp, and if it haven't electric motor It'll be the stronger V6 than Nissan GT-R 50.
This is exactly why Ford is head and shoulders above GM and Stalantis. Unfortunately I'll never even get to see this car in person. Very cool none the less. Thank you.
Good to see Larry still going strong at Multimatic (use to be called Dynamic suspensions) I worked there for 5 years as a damper technician. It’s based in Norfolk (thetford) just down the road from Lotus. They also made dampers for formula Ford, formula Renault, F3, F3000, BTCC and F1 in the early 2000’s.
@@G-kray kinda funny how this car was made and designed and competed against ferrari and won for a very long time just watch the ford vs ferrari movie and youll see that ferrari is all talk barely any bite atleast against ford anyway

@@jacobbaumgardner3406 no they didn't. That's a different car. You might have a point if they stopped selling the regular internal combustion two door coupe, instead of just releasing a new model.
@@limericklad2000 my point (and I’m assuming OP’s in their sarcasm) was that Ford can name it whatever they want. Doesn’t matter if it’s a different car, if they make a Crossover EV GT40, they will. It was a commentary on the silliness of the Mustang Crossover.
Bumped into Larry on the way down to Le Mans in 2016 in a services. He was in a 5.0l Mustang at the time and he was a genuinely nice bloke to speak to. He took some pictures of my Triumph Herald, he was very complimentary. I'd love to go for a beer with the bloke! Love this GT!
@@captain_context9991 G56 entry so it couldn't win anything, it didn't break any rules. The class is literally there for people to enter cars like the NASCAR Camaro or if Ford wouldn't have squandered the opportunity like the Mark IV GT or if somebody wanted to enter whatever.
@@limericklad2000 Oh there are rules. There are definitely rules. And they allowed the NASCAR to break all of them. Such as they let them change engine and gearbox during the race. Which nobody else is allowed to.
There has only been one super car ever made from a major American car maker, the ford gt. BUT NO MATTER HOW BEAUTIFUL THE CAR IS, AND IT IS QUITE BEAUTIFUL THE FORD GT SHOULD ALWAYS BE A V8. THE SOUND, THE SOUL OF A FORD GT IS A V8. I hope Ford brings it back again, with a twin turbocharged V8. As the cliché goes; there is a right and wrong way to do things, THE FORD GT WITH A V8 IS THE ONLY RIGHT WAY!!!
@@AnonYmous-ke4jf the gt race car came first (they won lemans which was their goal) and they have strict rules they need to meet, including engine size. the street car gt was the required homologation car for the race car. a v8 wouldn't even fit if they wanted to try, which they didn't. they weren't going to redesign/reengineer/remanufacture everything just so a v8 would fit, plus they were promoting the ecoboost.
Ford GT is such a legendary nameplate, the 2016 relaunch is still my favorite supercar :) what Multimatic is building is just awesome, cant wait for first rides of Ford GTD :) Jethro and TopGear great video
This car is absolutely stunning. Got to see these things rip at Road Atlanta for the IMSA finale awhile ago as well the opener at Daytona. I’m a Vette guy but this beast looks great on the track

Love Calabogie and it was great watching these cars test there in 2014+ before they were available to the public. The car was built for that track, literally.
Pro audio tip, if you can hear the saliva in your mouth, and literally hear the flesh of your voice box/mouth you are too close to the mic. Back up and raise the gain.
@@fulcrum2168 That doesn’t mean anything, it’s about the power that they were able to achieve from engineering like the McLaren Sabre or Elva has over 800 Hp road legal, Koenigsegg Jesko 1600 HP road legal. It’s just incredible that ford was able to get 800+ HP from a twin turbo V6 vs what McLaren achieved in the Artura
Great film. Larry is definitely the man, I had the pleasure of working with him a bit in the early 90s when Multimatic was just dipping their toe in to motorsports.
That has got to be one of the coolest looking race cars I've ever seen. Even cooler than the Brabham BT62. The only car that might still look more bad-ass than this GT Mk IV is the Ferrari P80/C.
What impreses me the most is Larry from multimatic being impressed with your driving ability. It would be very cool if Ford hired Jethro to drive a Ford at Le Mans.
The Ford GT Mk IV or the ABT XGT? And I don't mean that in the traditional 'Vs' sense - I mean if you actually had both available to you, to drive at the limits with their support teams in tow at a world class track like Silverstone or the like; which do you end up falling in love with more? It's a heady, ludicrous duo to be sure! And I'm playing complete n' utter 'armchair critic, keyboard warrior' here as someone who has never even been in the presence of either car - but my guess is that the Audi turned ABT car would be slightly less raw/ more approachable, with the Ford having the higher sheer skill ceiling & track performance; with a driver capable of wringing the best out of it. Chime in below which you'd pick/ prefer, commenters!
@@connormoran3425 Yeah, it might of been better to go with the Solus GT... but I didn't wanna break 2 million cause then the Valkyrie AMR Pro comes into play and shit gets super crazy (and expensive) real fast
Where it's built has nothing to do with it being Canadian. Kar-Kraft who created the GT40 Mk. II back in the 1960s was also across the river in Canada but was still an American Ford company. Ford has always done this because it's less expensive to create a Canadian company than an American subsidiary. Capiche'?
Bovie gone to Top Gear from Hagerty weird. The J car that in its prototype form killed Ken Miles in front of his son !! In a way, Ford really stuck it to Ken Miles , shafted him in 66, going for their 1 2 3 finish, but because McLaren had started further back than Ken gave him the win. He could have done the impossible and won LeMans, Sebring, and Daytona as they were all 24hr races in the 60's.
I'm not sure I knew this thing was a thing until now... shows how in the loop I am, but I really liked what I've seen of the first interations of this from 2016 and onwards and this is just that times two almost, really cool! Guess my only tiny complaints of the original car is the exterior design, its almost too simple and clean, its not that its ugly, its not, it looks great... but yeah, just too many clean empty surfaces I guess but its a very minor complaints, if I fell in to a few 100 million dollars I'd buy all of these! :D
Please stop describing everything as "good" lol, you're a motoring journalist. My Aygo is good, these are $1.7m cars they are surely worth more than just good!
If you'd like to read more advanced words that describe this, I can recommend picking up the August issue of Top Gear magazine (UK). It's understandable to have your vocabulary dropping to middle schooler level while you're driving this brain scrambling machine :)
multimatic is canadian, they do have a niche vehicle factory in coventry uk though. that's were some of the amg one is manufactured and it's entirely assembled there.
@@blackberrythorns Yes, but Multimatic were simply hired to assemble the car. Just like they built Aston Martins One-77 model. They didnt create either of these cars. The problem for Ford with the Ford GT series is that the might & manpower at Ford tried their best, but failed at coming up with their own inhouse Ford GT design. And then they tried their best to find an american workshop that could build it... But as Ford said there isnt a single workshop, racing team, or car manufacturer in the entire US that are qualified to put together a carbon monocoque worthy of number plates... Or FIA approved for racing. There is just no scene, no community, no traditions in the entire US for supercar quality craftsmanship or technology. Its all British. Just like the Hennessey F5, and SSC Tuatara is the same story except thats designed and built by an Italian LeMans car manufacturer in Italy.
@@captain_context9991 "Yes, but Multimatic were simply hired to assemble the car." ford partners with them on the gt and now the gtd. who did the carbon fibre tub and panels and heavy mods. to the motor, suspension and drivetrain? who did the aero.? they did more than just assemble it.
