Back out detecting for gold in the Victorian Goldfields 

We haven't been able to get out metal detecting as often as we'd like to recently! But when we can, we jump at the chance. As the colder weather approaches, hopefully we can manage to get out some more. We had a great day out none-the-less! Great adventure none the less, you don't always need gold to have a sucessful day out. The hut sounds great, but a stone chimney would be a fitting tribute, I look forward to see how it turns out. Cheers Pete

That’s Ant and Glenn, just what the doctor ordered one of you fun entertaining videos. Rite now I couldn’t think of anything better than to be sitting by myself in a hut in the bush by myself to get my head back together. I would normally be out having another ten days hunting for some gold about now but my wife was involved in a bad car accident and suffered a fractured neck ankle and sternum she spent a month in hospital and I have been looking after her for the past month at home.She has only just started to put some weight on her leg so still a fair way to go yet.

A good day out,and the Bush camp sounds like a great plan. Glenn has already built it in his mind,looking forward to seeing the results. Cheers fellas.

Thank you both, Glenn and Ant! Your guess was close, I am a bloke, and taller than six foot four, 199cm - is that 6' 6½"? Congratulations on the finds, the silver coin dates the Danish 1861 mine, if I were paying attention. The world really did come to Victoria, hey! I'm on the hunt for particularly any Croatians on the diggings, they'd be either among the Italians, Hungarians, even the French. How about any Polish diggers, Ant? We should read the Eureka Petition, so many different surnames, was yea so many feet long, maybe when the Eureka Stew took place, Chinese cabbage, Irish lamb, German sausage, etc. History is golden, and you can find gold where was found already. Use the clues given works, but like Lee Savage has shown, there's areas not mapped, not detected, up a steep range, well off-road. I'd need the pick to double as a walking staff, like a Worzel Gummage! Happy trails & big nuggets, specimen boulder or two to share, or 18ct and overloaded sovereign holders, two of. 👍👍

Thanks for another great Victorian gold hunters video. You have been teaching me how to search for gold, so I'll report back about my latest find. Recently I dug into virgin stream wash, that looked likely and got a weeny metal signal. This signal was just above my detector back ground noise and it kept cutting in and out. Also the bed rock bottom had a clay layer with rock bottom poking out. I ripped into the bed rock with my detector pick and so worked, until I finally moved the signal. By hand, I transferred the signal over the detector coil. No mean feat either and a plastic scoop would never have managed to scoop this signal. The signal finally came from about a two centimeter blob mud glug that looked ridiculously like dirty clay. With nothing but an awesome signal to indicate metal and I began braking the blob into smaller blobs. Love clay, yuk. Anyway, the signal finally came from a dirty, one centimeter blob and I began scraping the muck off this. Then a coppery like bit of metal appeared under the sticky clay. I cleaned it a best as I could and the barest glimmer of gold appeared under the coppery surface. My detector gave of great metal signals and when I got the signal cleaned, a 0.6 gram nugget resulted. Though I've stretched a long story and a small piece of detected gold, the moral may make it worth reading on? This 0.6 grammer was jammed between virgin slate, which was covered with a black mineral. It was flat side up, covered with black material and jammed between slate layers, or between a join in the bed rock. The signal turned on and off, was small and not what I would have pursued in worked ground. When this metal was moved out of the bed rock, it sounded big and was easy to read. Being virgin ground, I was motivated. But ten minutes early I had detected and dug out a small, weird shaped lead slug. This appeared to come from the virgin wash, so I had my doubts about the next signal. However, what both of you have taught us detectorists, is to think, detect and reason about what signals we detect and I thank you taking the time to share your gold detecting adventures.

Good to see you both back. I think that the hut idea is great. Go for it. Talking about Peter Lalor. The family rumour is that my 4 x great grandfather John Dunlop was one of the people who smuggled him out of the Eureka Stockade and hid him on his farm at Geelong where the railway station is today. No idea if there is any truth to the story but it’s down in the Dunlop family history books!

The white ants are going to love that pine Glenn. Better soak it in sump oil.

great video. So Glen is going to live in an isolated bush hut? With it getting hotter each year Id recommend living coober pedy style. find a mineshaft on a slope, dig one wall out, put your wood over the top cover it with earth, 21 degrees all year.

Definitely build the hut Glen would be epic to see a real life hut built just for all the reasons you mentioned ill do the same 1 day when im getting on too and wanna contemplate life😅

I ran into Doug stone the other week and he said the diggers would use a thimble to fill it with gold. A upside down thimble would hold about a ounce of gold.

What a awesome idea the hut is. I remember growing up in maldon there was a couple of huts built up off the mount there. Im fairly sure atleast one was built bye someone escaping the law.

Great video gents. Glenn is talking about digging for bottles. I have seen a few old books with instructions. Firstly, do you think there would be any pitts still around containing old bottles? And two, would you two ever consider filming a dig out if so? Keep up the great content fellas.

Sounds like a nice target there at the end ill guess 5+ grammer. Which do you like, I torn between getting a 7 or a 6. The 7 looks more stable and goes deeper, but the lightness of the 6 means i could get my 10yo bloke to swing for me while i pick duty .
