I return to metal detect the site where I found a ton of mid tone type targets. This site has produces some great relics and provided for two fun metal detecting adventures. I am stuck on this field 2 setting on the Minelab Equinox 800 right now so I tried it out on this site during this hunt.

I was in field 2 , with my 800, using a 6" , 23 for sensitivity, 5 tone , 4 swing speed. I hit a 3 cent nickel that pulled a solid repeating 3 - 4 both directions . It was about 5-6" deep. It was in a moist , dirt clay , loamy soil mix. I was surprised when I dug it, I would have expected it in the 8 range. So dig those 3-4's if you come across any.

My subscribers list grows with every video that I make and it seems like more people are discovering each day what I’m doing on here. I try my best with these videos so motivates me more each time I see new people on here. During the summertime I slow down quite a bit because I really don’t enjoy metal detecting in hard dry ground, I’d rather be out in the winter or in the spring. Only thing bad about my channel is that there is a lull during the summer for uploaded videos. I’m glad that you enjoyed it I’m doing on here and thank you for tuning in to check out the videos

Sorry for the long post. I hope every Equinox owner reads this. Especially, those of you hunting in iron infested sites like me. It's good to see you're using 50 tones. It takes practice to get used to, but totally worth it in iron. Once you've overcome the sometimes overwhelming noise of 50 tones, its time to start experimenting with recovery speed and iron bias along with the newly learned 50 tones. This is where Multi IQ comes alive. Here you will unlock those heavily iron infested sites where FBS, BBS and other VLF detectors fail. This newer Multi IQ technology trumps even the CTX 3030 with its outdated and slower hardware. The CTX is still a killer machine, just an older slower processor. Park 1 algorithms weighs heavily on the lower frequencies. We all love the elusive deep or iron masked 20 to 30's VDI's right? I highly recommend trying the settings posted below next time you hunt in heavy iron. Even in non iron infested sites like parks littered with pulltabs and screw caps. Below is a link where I learned the secrets of the Equinox. It's written by one of the developers of the Equinox, Tom Dankowski. NASA Tom is his username on the forum linked below. Look for his posts in the thread. Here we go... 1. Set to Park 1. In the USA, this mode is where your deep higher conductors come to life....deep indian heads and deep silver...non ferrous targets. European detectorists, Park 2 will help with those small and thin hammered coins/lower conductive targets. Park 1 will still win in overall depth hunting non ferrous. 2. Set to 50 tones. 3. Set Iron Bias @FE2-0. Be sure you have the latest firmware version for this. See manual for updates. (start @FE2-2 & work down to FE2-0 until you understand the audio). 4. Set Recovery Speed @ 3 or 4. Whichever is the most stable in your ground. This may sound counter intuitive running so low in iron, but it allows the hardware to take more snapshots of the ground (detect, report VDI/audio, reset for next target) giving you more accurate VDI numbers. Lower Recovery Speed = more soil snapshots and elongated audio. Higher Recovery Speed = fewer soil snapshots and shorter audio response. Slow your sweep speed down using 4 or less. 5. Set detector volume at 25. Adjust the volume to fit your hearing with the wireless headphones ONLY...not the detector itself. We want ALL audio coming in loud and clear...highs, mids and lows. 6. Noise cancel first. 7. Auto Ground Balance. ALWAYS auto ground balance. If there is too much trash for auto GB, set to 0. There IS a difference between auto GB, manual GB and tracking within the algorithm. Experiment and you will see a difference. 8. Press the horseshoe button for all metal and most importantly, SET IRON AUDIO TO VOLUME 1. This is VERY VERY important. Discriminate nothing! Non-ferrous targets laying next to iron will suddenly emerge within the audio. You'll learn the new low, mid, high tone roll enabling you to capture the audio signature of co-located targets. What once sounded like one target, can suddenly become multiple co-located targets. This is where the magic with the Equinox begins. Setting iron volume to 1, is far less fatiguing to the ears than setting iron volume to max. It allows the iron to bleed through while mid and high tones still come in loud and clear. Don't be afraid to dig those one way high tones or iffy bouncy numbers. We all know iron will mask good targets. Using these settings will allow get up close and personal with the iron and unlocking the true potential of the Equinox. www.dankowskidetectors.com/discussions/read.php?2,166825,page=1

My goal when I am out metal detecting is to get as many responsive targets as I can in the least amount of time or at least before my body gives out and I’m too tired. 😂 the More decent targets you can get and the more digs you do... Probability of finding good stuff goes way up.

The key to using digital video recorders is to use gimbals for stabilizers instead of the digital stabilizers... digital stabilizers have a dissolution of video precision every time the camera or subject in video moves making RU-vid uploads fuzzy. I don’t use and digital stabilization. Through multiple trials and errors, pulling out my hair, curing quite a bit and lots of confusion I’ve found out how to make clear video for RU-vid. 🙂

Square Nail Squirrel Thank you!! I do have some questions. Have you used the Etrac? Is so, how do you think the 600 compares to it. I primarily hunt ghost towns in PA and are loaded with iron, how would you set it up. If you ran the Etrac, the program in my avatar is my go to program and I run it in 2 tone ferrous. It’s a killer program in areas loaded with iron, I’ve had a tone of success with and I pair it with my small coil. I would greatly appreciate any advice you have on setting up the 600 to hunt in these iron infested cellar holes/ghost towns. Thanks again!!

Just found your videos. They are excellent! Been watching them in California with all the restrictions on going outside. One question, do you ever hunt in park one or two? Most everyone out here seems to hunt mostly in park one unless they are at the beach.
@squarenailsquirrel9638
@squarenailsquirrel9638 4 года назад
I typically don’t hunt in the Park modes... the algorithm for a “good” sounding target is very aggressive in that mode compared to Field modes. When I’m in a more urban area where foil, bottle caps and modern trash are more prevalent I would choose a Park setting. When in a farm field the only thing I’m worried about finding too much of is iron.. a Field program won’t cancel out on a extremely corroded 7” deep coin, might be scratchy sounding, but won’t cancel due to the non aggressive nature to discriminate Iffy’s.

I don’t find a lot of silver and I thought about us talking about silver today while I was out in the field, I found a cool very tiny piece of silver.

I just met a Father and son couple of guys and told them to look on Utube for metal detecting and check out the videos. I told them my favorite site was Square Nail Squirrel. Hopefully you don't mind me saying that to them. I told them that they will learn alot from you. Another site was Finding America. Got a question for you, what do you think about the bounty hunter-Land star? I saw one in a pawn shop for $150.
