A new adventure in search of treasures and Scottish history on a field where William Wallace fought during Independence Wars of Scotland.
Sir William Wallace was a Scottish knight who became one of the main leaders during the Wars of Scottish independence.
A day of metal detecting also on the site of a long lost medieval abbey.
Will I find any medieval artifact this time!?

@scottemery4737

The roughness of the metal is to allow the enamel to better attached. Of course, they weren't counting on it being hit by a plow.

5:12 Simon, tossed a little light on your bottle top, I thing I recognise it as the end cap of a wooden window blind. The small holes around its edge are screw holes to hold it in place. The centre spindle has rusted away. Keep up the good detecting, I enjoy the videos.

Good Luck Simon it's been searched many times before in the past by various clubs and myself and friends and a couple of artefacts I found were handed over to the local Museum Services - you should try searching the flat ground near the old horse coach road where the ground is flatter the ancient wood is thought to have covered all the hills and Wallace may have had his camp further up 👍 You are a wee bit away from where you need to be searching though in your video 👍
@thespanishdetectorist

@@thespanishdetectorist we did a few years ago now I conducted a search specifically to hunt for iron and steel objects that might relate to the battle and we ended up with bucket loads of iron horse shoes and stirrup fragments and strange pieces any one of which might have been related to the battle fragments of armour etc and I still have photos of some pieces - what you need to do is get a copy of the old maps that show the likely battle spot and head in the direction of that - there are maps that do show this - there are also a number of strange mounds near the lower flat fields and the farmer should be able to tell you their medieval connection to the Abbey those strange humps and bumps lie directly below the hill of the battle site which was fought on flatter ground above 👍

17:45 is brass and it sits in a waggon or carriage and is used to hold or guide the leather reigns or straps.

The big brass item is not a horse Snafle Bit....it is a brass Key. Similar to a Skeleton Key. The tapered 4 sided end doesnt fit in a lock. It fits in a mated socket. Things like this in modern times would fit a natural gas valve for example. The silver looking button is a Tombaq 1770-1820. The thin flat "button" may be a small Scottish coin. I dont recall the name.
@thespanishdetectorist

@DavidDrummond-mu3ur
@DavidDrummond-mu3ur 3 дня назад
The battlefield was 13th century and as such you have to remember weapons, armour all things worn by knights would be steel and iron if things were broken or lost or discarded remember your detector should be in All Metal if your looking for relics the non ferrous artefacts will be smaller personal items - I once found an enamelled stud over nearby fields that had a cross design on it but I found there was lots of iron targets in the ground 👍
@thespanishdetectorist
