THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH! For all your help! For the help you give us that we should be getting from our doctors and therapists, but DON'T. So instead of being left to suffer like a dog left in an enclosed car, you demonstrate treatments that actually help. I couldn't get out of bed last week, this week I'm getting around thanks to you. So grateful.

Thanks for posting this. I'm a OTA student, and was a serious cyclist. In Cat 2 level, and had to be pulled from clinical rotations to heal a herniated at L5S1 after a road accident. It's been a year since, and a lot has improved. Graduated from school and completed clinicals, but still haven't found a way/combination to get back to what I love- cycling. I have good disc space at l5s1 but need aggressive modified core conditioning if I ever want to get back to the type of racing/level I was once at. The video was helpful and the quote at the beginning meant a lot to me. Best wishes. Thank you both for the advice and the video. The bike I ride is an aero LIV envie advanced with an aggressive position. I think I may have to change my position up somehow- Hannah

Great advice. However, look at how a professional racer's posture is on, and what setup they have. Consider how many hours they do that. I have a lower lumbar herniation. The racing position on a road bicycle gives me a significant advantage. When my back hurts, I go down into the drops, and my spine is close to horizontal with the ground. Now, I don't have issues in "C" areas of my body, so I have the advantage of being able to mostly still be able to look down the road. Also, keep in mind, I generally do not curve my spine, but rather try and maintain a "J" position in relation to my spinal alignment. This has been observed in certain populations to reduce the incidence of disc degeneration in larges groups of ancient populations.

Hey guys, i have to comment on tour 10 to 15 degrees of knee flexion at the 6 o'clock position on the bike. 15 would be a minimum but just looking at your position, your seat is too high. 25 and even some get to 30, 35 degrees. The sine qua non is that there is no up and down rocking of the hips when peddling, especially at high cadence. Tight hams, etc are a huge cause, problem

I have a bike cruiser (Sun Baja Cruiser)...very comfortable ride and has "Fat Tires" that absorb the shocks of the road. Never have a problem with my back. Not a fast bike by no means and your riding position is almost vertical with a wide hand grip on the bars. BUT! I also have a hybrid (Giant-Cypress) and ride it once in a while. Last Saturday, I thought I would take the Cypress for a ride. About one hour and 15 minutes..came home my back was sort of stiff..did some exercises to loosen up the spine. Next morning, barely 5 minutes out of bed, went to pick up a piece of paper on the floor...heard a "pop" in my back and now have a bulging disc issue. Seeing a Chiro.In the future, I will only ride the Cruiser!

@@NinucaKhupenia-ts7iv it is better thank God, a recumbent bike is a good option if you have herniated disk because it gives you back support. @columbusohman
@columbusohman 7 лет назад
yes, please do one on hamstrings. I was in PT to get mine stretched out and they are still tight and sore. Thanks!
@stretchawaylowerbackpainfo3171
I think that the sciatica is caused by tight hamstrings that puts torque on the hips. This takes the natural curve out, straightening the lower back putting pressure on the disc and nerve. You can change this by stretching.

I’m enjoying the bike so far ru-vid.comUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.

Is it physiotherapy or Yoga? The Sanskrit name of the Cat Pose, Marjaiasana, comes from marjay meaning cat and asana meaning posture. The name of the Cow Pose, Bitilasana, comes from bitil meaning cow and asana meaning posture. Both the Cat and Cow poses stretch the lower spine, hips, back and core muscles

@marioamayaflamenco 7 месяцев назад
It is so weird to me that you guys think bending the spine forward is bad and bending it back is good. The sciatic nerve runs down the BACK of the spine. If you bend back, any disc material hanging out between the vertebrae will get pinched, whereas if you bend forward the space in back between the vertebrae will open up, causing less pinching of the disc material and less pressure on the nerve.

Great video! Brad, what aero bars do you have? Those angle up which looks helpful. Sadly I hurt my back from road biking. I was spending too much time on my aero bars which are a lot lower and it led to my QL & Psoas muscles on the right side getting extremely tight. It got to the point where it caused my L4 disc to bulge and cause nerve root irritation into mt calves. In my efforts to correct it I then spent too much time with my hands on the hoods and developed a strain in my mid-back (I was also weight lifting at the time which contributed). Anyway, I've spent a lot more time over the past several months working on my mobility and stretching and have laid off on the biking and lifting. It's helped a lot but I would eventually like to get back on the bike.

It can be. I have issues in that area. Not sure if triggered by lower back or if piriformis!

@gregknipe8772 4 года назад
@@mhaas281 piriformis is extremely rare. the minute I saw a PT, it was very clear I had a ruptured disk. it took 90n seconds in two postures. use the internet but don't waste time diagnosing symptoms. a few minutes with a PT = diagnosis and solution. then its on you to discipline yourself to retrain. I would not spend another minute on the internet, and get to the PT. I am 99% recovered, hiking 2000' feet, 5 miles a day. not riding the bike much, but switching to Jones bars and working on seat position and stem length for a better posture.

@mhaas281 4 года назад
@@gregknipe8772 More detail. I was in a cycling crash 2016. A year later I was diagnosed with mild disc bulge to the right. At that time pain was in the right side near glut. Now days when I have pain its in the left side, feels like coming from piriformis, glut SI joint or Asymmetrical tightness in the Quadratus Lumborum but that just my guessing. Maybe tight groin casing issues? I talked to Kaiser doc who thinks the issue is muscular and needs time to heal. Been to numerous Doc, PT and chiropractic visits none have been able to provide me a sure diagnoses. I'm giving the usual do these stretches and sent off. I use to ride 40+ miles 5 days a week until having these issues. Thanks!
