I remember watching this match on television, I loved that outfit, I always thought that color palette was a tribute to the outfit from Indian Wells 2005. Federer played brilliantly throughout most of 2012, perhaps he felt tired in this tournament; in the next round, he lost to a brutal Roddick.
I think it was bc Roddick finally figured out his "tell" when returning serves. He said Federer even gave him a look that's like, "oh, you finally figured it out" XD
I can safely say that Federer in 2010-2012 had some of the best point constructions out of all versions of Federer. In 2004-2007 he showcased immense talent, footwork and power off his forehand wing, while in 2017-2018 he showed ultra aggressive style with newly improved backhand and more precise serve. 2014-2015 was like the less developed (working in progress) version of 2017-2018. I would have to say Federer's 2010-2012 is arguably his highest-elo form (maybe tied with 2017-2018) when both Djoko and Rafa were in their absolute prime. Federer's change to the BLX racket in the beginning of 2012 really caught my attention.

Agreed. The loss next round with Roddick seemed surprising at that time, but looking at this match, it does not seem that much of a surprise anymore. His game at the IW a week earlier took a bit of a toll and he seemed a bit off in Miami that year.
@@TvRFReloadedExactly. He kinda deserved a break. He passed on Monte Carlo and then played and won the blue clay Madrid. 2012 was a great year for Roger. Btw, I noticed one point missing from this match with Harrison The reason why I noticed is because that one is my favorite one from this match 🤭 The point at 2-2 in the tiebreak that Roger won with that beautiful running FH down the line.

Hot-headed, lack of composure and consistency, strenuous playing style, subpar backhand. His forehand and serve were main weapons (his kick serve was nasty), but that was about it. His forehand was also really not effective at all when he didn't have the time to set it up.
Harrison is like the poor man's Roddick. Serve that's sort of predictable like Roddick's serve but not as big as his. Forehand has the spin and depth but lacks the raw power that Roddick had. Backhand is subpar, even worse than Roddick's.
Sometimes these commentators need to just be quiet. Sometimes there just isn't anything to be said. They were going on about Federer's shirt "when is the last time we saw Federer play a match without a shirt". This match took place on March 24th 2012. Rotterdam started Feb 13 2012. Dubai ended March 3rd 2012. Those two tournaments, Federer wore a collarless shirt. It was the exact same pattern as the one he wears in this match, but a black/red color scheme instead of blue/white. If the commentators didn't know that, they should not be commentating. And if they did know it, they're talking nonsense. Just shut up if you have nothing to say
While I actually kind of agree, I laughed so hard at the commentary here that I had to keep it in🤭 I tend to make my edits so that you actually don't get these parts but here it was just so silly lol
I have a different opinion. I always thoroughly enjoyed listening to those American commentators such as Chris Fowler, Patrick McEnroe (and sometimes his brother John McEnroe), Brad Gilbert, etc. They can spew nonsense like you described, but at least they were charming. You will maybe change thought once you listen to some of the most mundane Korean broadcasters who keep talking without any care in the world, about everything that people know already, stating the obvious 100% of the time. They lack the charisma and flair, to make matters worse. 😂
Real talk here, nothing special about Ryan Harrison, never had a break through in big stages. I swear the commentars overcomplimented him. Alot of these calls were made biased, alot of Fed shots were called put, which many were clearly in, Fed shouldve finished him 6-2, 6-3 Why do i get the feeling that, Harrison maybe a nice humble guy, but i feel like he grew up with a lot of privileges, probably grew up above avg american (income n status) family, gets away with alot of things because of his looks n wealth... Seriously nothing was special about this kid in term of his tennis skill, just another avg top 100 players, many of these commentators were overly proud cause he was young upcoming american players back in those days.
Where the heck are you going with that?? You think Federer came from some kind of working class family? None of these guys did. Just do some research and you'll find out otherwise. They gotta try and support the American guy.

@@aaronwhite3119 I think you're the one who didn't watch men's tennis closely in the 2010s. Harrison was an overhyped American "big thing" after Roddick or maybe even Agassi. Tennis channel was literally heralding him as the new leader of American tennis ever since as early as his training days in Bradenton, FL. He had a super bright future when he was only 16 by cracking top 10 in the junior rankings and then winning his first official ATP match. But that doesn't ensure that you will go on to have a successful career. And we all know how much money you have to invest into an individual player's career, Harrison was a perfect example coming from an affluent background although his dad coached him personally. Also Harrison didn't really have a natural talent or ballstriking ability, although his second serve was largely explosive with a massive kick. He was athletic with a pretty impressive counterpunching style, but that's about it. We know that style won't last for long and will hamper your longevity.
