After doing the apple dehydrating video I watched some people using apple peelers and had to have one... after my first use my only thought was why didn't I pick one of these up sooner...
click the link at the top of the description for my text writeup along with link to buy one...

Hey it’s 2024 and I am just watching this. I bought the same peeler from Amazon and did not know exactly how to use it even after reading instructions. Your video showed me how. TY

When you finish peeling to the core, wind it the opposite direction and in will take the core right off for you. Also peel faster and it works much better getting all the peeling off. Good luck.

A pan of homemade apple bars takes 13 apples roughly. This apparatus makes it an absolute breeze! I like it for peeling potatoes too. I’ve found I have to cut the potatoes in half before peeling. Remove the coring blade at the end of the peeler and just leave the blade for removing the peel. Mashed potatoes are much easier now.

yeah the thing works great. It takes some time to perfect it. The key is getting the blade adjusted to the right depth. Also, if you spin it faster it seems to work better.

You are supposed to put the stem side on the corer. It works much better if you put the stem side on first.

I have tried it both ways and it doesn't make much difference. If anything, it works a little better on soft apples to put the stem away from the prongs, because the other end of the apple is stronger.

Exactly what I said after watching a video of someone using one... I just did a batch of canning apples in 1/3 the time that the last batch took... I keep asking myself why I did not get one sooner...

Thanks for this. I was cursing this contraption the whole morning as the horizontal rod would not budge when I pulled it to the right along with lifting the silver hook part (as you did in the video). It was only when I actually rotated the black handle away from myself that it came loose. Thanks again :)

I believe if you do not want so much apple to come off, then you have to adjust the bottom screw. The bottom screw is placing the tension tighter or softer on the peel cutter arm part.

I was trying to make an apple pie for some friends of ours. I've made many in the past but my apple peeler was stolen (along with everything else) so I just purchased another one. I couldn't figure out how to adjust the peeler. I fooled around with the blade but it was cutting into my apple so much I would have had nothing left. Could you snap a picture of how you set your blade... I would really appreciate it.

For this to core well the apple must be pretty much symmetrical. And it doesn't work well if the apple is not very crisp. The prongs will not hold the apple if it is not reasonably hard apple
@fun_ghoul
@fun_ghoul 4 года назад
It doesn't need to be symmetrical, you just have to put it on the shaft (what seems to be) asymmetrically. IOW, instead of poking your apples axially from blossom to stem, try to imagine a new axis that runs up the actual middle of your lopsided apples.
@gaylecoffey3313

I think you were putting the apple on backwards. The instructions with mine said to insert the apple with the stem on the backside rather than facing outward.

Why do they put a Big Cutting U shaped blade on these anymore; instead of a flat blade like a knife? Mother used a White Mountain Apple Peeler/Corer & Slicer for 45 years that did NOT take off over 1/2" of each apple as waste.

Got one for Christmas. Wanted it to peel kiwi. The kiwi core is too shallow and comes off when you get bout 1/3rd of the way on. I'd like to modify it to work with the kiwi. Maybe decrease the pressure on the cutting blade (skinning blade). Don't need it for apples. I eat about 95% or higher of the apple anyways.

@fun_ghoul
@fun_ghoul 4 года назад
By now you're surely used yours, but for anyone else wondering, it works pretty damn good. With any suction cup, try for the flattest, smoothest surface you have available to you. I always add water "just in case", but this thing seems like it'd stay put dry as well.

The only way you could surmise this is if you only watched the first few apples get peeled. With just a bit of practice, I'm down to 20 seconds per apple (so, 3 apples per minute). I've seen wage cooks who are lightning fast with a Boerner...but I'm not them. It really doesn't take much stupid to injure oneself with a sharp peeler. I haven't used this on taters yet, but you can bet I'm gonna!
