In this one Dan takes his SKX007 and mods it back to its original SKX style iteration but with a touch more Lume. This time showing a longer build process with nothing but the sounds of the build process.

I just can't unsee those 6 and 9 indexes as SIM card ejectors..... I really appreciate this video. As someone just starting in the custom scene (working on my 3rd build now) it's really interesting to be able to actually watch (!) someone do this. Videos are an important source of learning the ropes in this, but most just tell you what they are going to do and show you the result, and there are so many little details that I can pick up just watching the process as it's actually done in front of me - turning the case to ensure an even pressure when pushing the crystal, setting the hands and configuring the date change...... Thank you.

Stumbled into this channel. I really appreciate this video. I'm in the process of planning out my first every scratch build. I've never even done mod work beyond a bracelet swap and resizing 😆 But I do have a lot of mechanical tinkering experience and I'm excited for this challenge. Your video was fantastic for helping to illustrate the process and gives me some better ideas on how to proceed than I had prior. 👍

I really enjoy your videos for the info and content so clearly shown. I love? how much choice one does NOT have in choosing a Diver's Watch these days... it's so limited, so that means you must mod one yourself! The comments and views more generally (eg Patina and Aged lime) are spot on! I find it hilarious how vintage looks are actually a thing! Anyway, keep making more videos and show us the trials and success stories, but most of all how you get there!

Nice build done a few SKX 007 builds myself. Some positive critique. The bezel action seemed a bit on the slack side for my liking.. Great upload and a pleasure to view.. Big fan of the SKX 007 case the crown position at 4 o'clock is perfect . No digging into the wrist like the usual 3 o'clock offerings.. It also wears will on smaller wrists..

hey, amazing content, I saw many of your videos and I want to make my first skx007 from scratch. I would like to know if I get a nh36, if I need to swap the date wheel and the plastic movement holder, because I don't have a 7s26 to swap between.
@ItsAnotherWatch
@ItsAnotherWatch 10 месяцев назад
If you're doing one from scratch you should be able to get away with keeping the grey spacer that comes with the NH36 (if you're getting your case from NamokiMods or somewhere similar) as long as you also buy the appropriate case back that is for the grey spacer (since they also do one for the black spacer). Heck, if you're going for black day/date discs then you can buy an NH36 that already has some black 3.8 o'clock plates on it so you won't have to change them. Same with the white ones. That being said, if you're interested in changing the plates yourself then you can still get a 3.8 o'clock day disc of your choice. The date (numbers) are compatible with both 3 and 3.8, its only the date disc that is specific to 3.8. Also, I'd totally recommend using an SKX171 dial for it. Its such a beautiful dial, I did a video on it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sijX9tAbb_M.htmlsi=2Hcr4QILL-K6cFwV and you can buy the dial here: tokeilab.com/products/oem-dial-skx171 Sorry about the ramble, hopefully this is helpful!
@tiagomizuno3794
@tiagomizuno3794 10 месяцев назад
@@ItsAnotherWatch Thank you very much for the response. I am going to get the nh36 with the 3.8 position date disc. I don't know exactly if the titanium case I own atm has the caseback for the gray or black plastic, but I will test it, and with your explanation, it made more easy to check what I really need. I am looking for the oem dial, because I really like the circles in one color, without the silver countour. The jubilee bracelet is something I am still considering, because I don't know if it is going to be too heavy for my taste, since I am used to seiko 5s and some gshocks

I appreciate all your help so far. One more question pleaseeee. I'm sorry, this is my first time building a watch. There are many case sizes and they all use NH35 or NH36 movement. So, for the case I bought, how do I know if the movement will fit or if I need a spacer? Are there specific spacers sizes I need to look for? Thank you!
@ItsAnotherWatch
@ItsAnotherWatch Год назад
If the case you bought isn't shown to come with any kind of a spacer, and is still advertised as an NH36/NH35 compatible, then it should fit just fine by itself. But if the case is also advertised as fitting 7S26/7S36 movements (like the Namoki and SeikoMods cases) then you might need to check if it needs a caseback specifically for the NH or 7S movements. For regular NH compatible dive watch cases, you're probably fine since most of them (that are made for NH movements) fit the movements directly. But if you're going for something aftermarket that fits a number of movements it might come with a plastic holder. But if it does need one, it will be obvious (or should be obvious) when buying it, by looking at the pictures and listing details.
@rosomak8244
@rosomak8244 9 месяцев назад
The next level is when you start tinkering with the movements when they need servicing. On a daily wearer this would be about after 3-4 years.

Bit late I know but can you please tell me what you were gluing? I’ve watched twice but can’t understand what needed to be glued . Inspiring video. Thanks.
@ItsAnotherWatch
@ItsAnotherWatch 9 месяцев назад
I was gluing the chapter ring where it sits in a little notch in the case to stop it from being loose, as it was shaking around even after the crystal was pressed in. This isn't usually necessary, might have been an issue with how the crystal went in, not being perfectly level. But this doesn't happen very often. If I am remembering correctly, this is the only time it has happened to me. So if you're doing a build like this and your chapter ring is sitting nice and firm after the crystal has been pressed in, you don't need to worry about gluing it.

Just got interested in this hobby and this is golden. Any tips on what watches to get and what kits and guides to have to fully learn everything needed to get in this hobby. Aka where should I start?
@ItsAnotherWatch
@ItsAnotherWatch 2 года назад
I'd recommend starting with some cheaper NH36 watches like the Steel Dive or Heimdallr's on AliExpress/Ebay. You get a lot of watch for your money and its good for trying out dial/hand swaps. Bezel inserts are a bit of a pain if you want to change them on the cheaper ones though, as the cheaper bezel retention system makes it difficult to put the bezel back on. But other than that they're a good place to start. Alternatively you could just get an NH35/NH36, a cheap AliExpress case (which, sometimes, already has the chapter ring and crystal fitted) and bracelet and a Dial and hand set to go with that if you wanted to build something from scratch for similar money to the steel dive watches. But the added bonus with modding steel dives is you get to practice removing hands. As for kits, I myself just bought basic watch tool sets and then individually got anything extra I needed. Just remember, this can be an expensive hobby even if you do end up saving money on some special watches you BUILD rather than buy. The cost of entry can get steep depending on the depth you want to go with, especially when you get into buying crystal presses and more premium watch making tools (i myself just have the cheap ones.)
@JBMods
@JBMods 2 года назад
@@ItsAnotherWatch Ok thank you so much. And what about learning about the parts of a watch to have the knowledge of the inner workings? Where did you learn from? So I dont just start doing thing without knowing what Im doing. Is there a place everyone goes or a book everyone reads to learn or some type of manual. And yea I saw the steep amount of money for the watches but I want to experiment to see but this really interests me a lot and am fully willing to go all in starting small and increasing as I get more knowledge.

@@JBMods RU-vid really is the place to be honest, watching disassembly's of watches (in this case Seikos or NH36's) or watching videos like mine where mods are being built. But i'd start with assembling watches out of parts before figuring out the building of movements.

@ItsAnotherWatch
@ItsAnotherWatch 7 месяцев назад
At 8:45 take a look at the crystal and see the texture of the side that is going down into the watch. The slope on the edge of the crystal is facing upwards, and the part that gets pushed into the case is the frosted edge, with the flat part being at the bottom. If you're still having an issue figuring it out, post a pic of the crystal here and I'll take a look.
@benldr
@benldr 7 месяцев назад
@@ItsAnotherWatch I did some more research last night and figured out that the chamfered edge is supposed to face upwards. Thanks foe the confirmation. Unfortunately I hate the look so I had to buy a small chamfered edge crystal. So now I'm down $60 bucks buy oh well. It will be worth it in the end. I just didn't like how the big chamfer made it look like I was seeing double. Especially in the dark I feel like it affected visibility. I don't like see double like that. The clarity is amazing though. Looking forward to installing sapphire that looks more OEM.
@ItsAnotherWatch
@ItsAnotherWatch 7 месяцев назад
@@benldr Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I even went through that when I did the video for this build. Swapping the crystal out in the end for one with a less pronounced chamfer. Of course in the end I parted out this watch into "The Perfect SKX" and the "Samurai SKX" builds that I also did a videos on, and the Samurai SKX ended up with an Edge to edge crystal that looks great (Where i also went through a few crystals). Suffice to say, I've got a bunch of perfectly usable crystals just sitting in my spare parts collection that I probably won't ever use.

Wierd thing about skx is if you mod them they still thought of as original seiko yet seiko have the movements made in Indonesia and China as with cases and bezels and some dials. Yet at some undetermined point they get called fakes despite all the parts being made in the same place as "originals". Doesn't seem to happen with any other seiko ranges like presage. Maybe the dial sets them apart. I've built a few for people and have a nemo myself which , apart from the lume and cyclops lens, is the same. And they can be Japan made or Indonesian made. Seiko!
