"Follow your dreams but not off a cliff" as someone always knew what they wanted to do ever since they were a small child, this quote hit me hard. Going into my alevels and thinking about university over the past year has forced me to accept the realisation that it's extremely likely I won't get to have my 'dream career', I won't get my dream job, my passion won't be my career. Its been incredibly hard for me to accept that because I've never been able to imagine myself doing anything else. Teachers always said it's fine if you don't know what you want to do yet but as someone who has known exactly what they wished to do their entire life, its tough to come to the realisation that's not what you'll be doing in life. It's really hard to give up your dreams for a more realistic career but it's not necessarily a bad thing. There will be other opportunities in life. So while I'm sure most of the people my age don't have a clear idea of exactly what they want to do as a career (my class and friends definitely don't) I hope those that do will see this and realise that if you wanna persue your dream career then that's amazing! But if you don't, then that's also fine.

I saw this vid back in high school for the first time, it rlly changed the way a thought about school and it probably saved me a lot of years because my parents wanted me to go to law school when I graduate and they kept pushing it on me but I was rlly into psychology, I rewatched this video at the last high school year, it helped me make up my mind and have the guts to say no, I ended up getting into psychology and it’s amazing every time I study I enjoy yet cuz I actually want to learn what’s on those books, I’ll be graduating university same time next year, what I wanted to say is thank u very much for helping me, this is the 3rd time watching this video, it just came on my recommended feed❤️❤️

Update: the first time I watched this video was three years ago when it was first uploaded and I was a 17 year old, soon to be 18 year old senior in high school. Fast forward now, I just turned 21 back in October and so far I’ve tried a semester of community college after I graduated in 2019, didn’t work out, didn’t have the motivation to continue, and took 2020 as my gap year and just worked and payed off my first car (thank goodness). Applied for university and got accepted, finished my first semester, went horribly, I couldn’t focus, my “friends” used me to buy alcohol and I had a lot of people die in the 4 month span of being a student. I’m currently moving back in with my mom next Monday and taking two semesters off, but honestly I don’t think I want to go back to school and that’s okay. College isn’t for everyone, but I’m not knocking it either. Rn I only have $400 to my name and I’m saving up to eventually move out into my own apartment in the next couple of months and finding a steady job with benefits, until then, wish me luck.
