I have one that I got as a basket case. Left at the dumpster, screws missing, covered in stickers. Lots of cleaning later it works. Trying to find screws to attach the lid and paper holder. Works pretty well considering how I got it. Learned typing in high school long ago on manual Underwoods. Second year they put us in front of new IBM Selectrics. I made 15 J’s before I got my finger off the keys. They were nice but too time to get used to them.

LOVE the Futura 800! This was the typewriter I grew up using in the 70's and early 80's, as this was the typewriter my Dad took to college in 1962-66. I'd love to find another one!

My first typewriter was a Heritage 3, it took me forever to find information about that machine and I didn't realize it was essentially a Futura until I got an 800 last year. I think the Heritage 3 is also made from steel to be cheaper, it feels so much heavier than the 800.

Great video! I also have a 1958 Royal Futura 800 in gray. The only difference is that mine has red lettering on the back whereas your has white. It is a great typewriter!

Very interesting stuff, as usual. And now you have me wondering how often you switch typewriters! (I find that, after I see a video mentioning say, the SILENT-SUPER, out comes my SILENT-SUPER for a few days. Then I'll see another video, like this one and, guess what? The Smith-Corona goes back into its tweed case and out comes my Royal Quiet-DeLuxe! And I will then examine it more closely than before, carefully looking now at the details of its typeface, the shape of the keys, etc.) Clearly, I really must get a life.

Loved this video! Well I also love your other vids too. I really would love a Futura 800 in Vogue, if that is possible but I am not sure it was ever produced with a French Canadian keyboard. Daniel

Funny how you get into a particular design isn't it. I'm really into the Empire Baby & Aristocrat lines (licensed from Hermes for UK manufacture) and have over a dozen even though I rarely use the ones that actually work... they just have a charm!

New typewriter lover here! It is fantastic to write scripts for my videos because I don't have to worry about any internet distractions that might hinder my creative flow. Thank you far all you do on here, it's fantastic. Question for you though, where do you get replacement parts? There is a free typewriter I could get, but a spring is broken on it for the backspace on an electric model. Do you have a specific site you go through? Do you wrap your own? Anything helps, thanks 😊

I have a donor machine- one that's too far gone that I remove parts from to use on my others. There is also a facebook group (Antique Typewriter Maintenance) that other collectors use to source parts from other collectors

Great video, just got mine but I have a problem. My machine hits the bell when it reaches the middle of my page and not the end, so I end up with half of a blank page. I cant figure out how to fix it, have you come across this problem and know a solution?

Is your margin set to center? Or maybe a tab? Try clearing the tabs and moving around your margins on the right side (press down magic margin button and slide carriage over to the right and release the button)
