biff is sometimes a shortened form of bufford or william but more likely in this case it was a nickname. in slang it refers to hit or to punch so a lot of "tough" guys would adopt it as a nickname. not very common at all now though and i think it really dropped off after this movie

1. Cranky principal Strickland/James Tolkan also played the ship's squadron leader in "Top Gun". 2. The teacher that tells Marty, "Hold it fellas, I'm afraid you're just too darn loud" is Huey Lewis himself. "Heart of rock and roll" etc. 3. Eric Stoltz was first cast as Marty, but he didn't play well with others and wasn't giving the tone they were looking for. fired. Some of his long shots are still in the movie. 4. The flammable material set on fire with the model exercise had to have been put there on purpose. Movie magic. 5. It's always fun to see how people react to the Marty and his mom car scene. 6. George McFly/Crispin Glover didn't like that the story ended with the family being prosperous. DA🙄 7. Twin Pines Mall becomes Lone Pine Mall when Marty takes one out when he goes back to 1955. 8. IMVHO part II is my favorite of the trifecta. 9. If you want a first time/share of an OUTSTANDING movie where Christopher Lloyd plays the heavy you must do "Who Framed Roger Rabbit".

@@NiceIce75 Robert and Bob have no legal say. However, one of the owners and the biggest name at Universal Pictures Amblin Entertainment is Steven Spielberg. He produced the films too. Steven's friendship with Robert is likely the only thing keeping the rest of the studio from pursuing alternate revenue streams from BTTF that the screenwriters oppose. Once Steven passes away I think the odds of a remake or something will become much much greater. They are not going to do it without Steven's approval and Steven isn't going to approve something his friend is so adamantly opposed to. Sadly I think a remake is simply a matter of time. Heh... Fun fact: as a prank, someone put real liquor in the hip flask for the parking scene. Fox's spit take was a genuine reaction. The director liked it so much he left if in the finished film. There are other easter eggs showing changes. For example, the ledge on the clock tower is now damaged where the Doc nearly fell off. Another is that the mall is originally called Twin Pines Mall. When Marty first went back, he smashed one of the two pines running away. When he returns the mall is now called Lone Pine Mall. The ending was a throw away gag. They didn't expect the film to perform that well. When the film became a runaway hit, a sequel was written. Problem is, they had to start with the final scene of the first movie.

one fan theory I accept as headcanon is that George McFly is really a left-handed kid but was forced to use his right. This was fairly common and messed up a bunch of people. When he has to punch Biff he's using his left, which is his stronger hand. And afterwards he allowed himself to be a leftie, which helps since he's no longer holding back.

So, some fun guitar facts from this movie: 1) Marty playing an Ibanez Roadstar II when auditioning for the school dance. A famous guitarist named Steve Vai redesigned the Roadstar around 1986 and it was renamed the RG (Roadstar Guitar). The Ibanez RG is still in production today. 2) Marty puts headphones on sleeping George and plays a Van Halen tape. The guitar you hear is Eddie Van Halen's iconic yellow and black striped guitar called The Bumblebee. It was used in several major Van Halen hits. In 2004, when Dimebag Darrell was buried, Eddie put this guitar in the coffin with him. 3) Marty playing with the band at the 1950s school dance. The guitar he's playing is a Gibson ES-358. In 1955 this guitar wasnt invented yet. The correct one for that year would've been a Gibson ES-355, but its a bigger guitar and Michael J Fox looked ridiculous playing it.

I've never seen a vending machine that vends GLASS bottles. It was probably a refrigerator with a regular swing door. It probably wasn't a vending machine. The bottle opener was probably attached to the side of the refrigerator. Just a guess. I wasn't alive in the 50's.
@unseenentity326
@unseenentity326 8 дней назад
@plawes2237 they definitely had vending machines with glass bottles. Then they had tin cans and then aluminum cans. You put in your coins, then opened the door and pulled out the bottle you wanted. You could only pull out one. The mechanism would release the bottle you pull on. If you tried to pull more than one out at the same time, it wouldn't release any bottle.

I watched this a bunch as a kid in the 90s and after m'lady and I had been together for a few years I found out that she'd NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE, and she was born in 1990! I couldn't believe she'd never seen it, so I showed her the whole trilogy and she loved it. It's one of the few instances of a film trilogy where I feel like all of the movies are equally good. The first one isn't the best, they're all the best. Even the third film which ... I won't spoil it ... takes an unpredictable turn, is awesome too! :D I'm so glad you got to finally see this classic Kamilla :]

The movie poster for part 1 has a joke about Marty. If you were to get it on DVD or get the poster this is what it says: He wasn't on time for his classes he wasn't on time for dinner and suddenly he realized he wasn't in his time at all.

Hi Kamilla! Im sure it's been mentioned by now, but i just wanted to add something to it... you probably know now that the teacher who tells Marty his band is "Just too darn loud" is Huey Lewis, who wrote and performs the song Marty was playing. Marty's band was playing it a lot more hard rock than the song actually is... That's why Huey takes it a little "personal." Lol. I love your channels. Just found your book channel, and i love it! Have a great to read list of books you've recommended.

Kamilla I don’t know if anyone else here in the comments mentions this but contrary to the way this ends (to be continued) it wasn’t intended to be anything but a single movie. It was only the tremendous success as the box office that gave the studio the idea to make sequels and that took almost 5 years to happen.

My honest reaction is that yours is the best reaction to this movie that I have seen so far. Back to the Future is my all-time favorite movie, for all the reasons you said in the reaction. It is fun, the acting is on point, the characters are likeable, the story is clever, it's completely re-watchable.... and did I say it was fun? One reason I watch reaction videos is to see how someone else responds to a favorite of mine, and sometimes you get let down. My favorite reactor watched this movie and only had an okay reaction to it, which was disappointing. However, your reaction is exactly the type of reaction I wanted to see; someone who appreciated all the great moments in the film and expressed great excitement in those moments. I had a good time watching this reaction. Thanks! Yes, continue the series. It's all good, but parts 2 and 3 do not measure up to the first one. Still worth it though.

Biff actually is an American name. The word originally came from a slang term "to hit" or"punch", and was a nickname for a tough man, It gained popularity as Willy Loman's eldest son in the Arthur Miller play, Death of a Salesman.

No, in the real world, Biff isn't a normal name, it's a nickname. The word in English is an onomatopoeia, it's meant to emulate the sound of hitting someone, so it's often a nickname for tough guys. One of the earliest Biffs in pop culture was Biff Byford from the metal namd Saxon, and his real name was Peter Rodney Byford (the nickname was derived from his surname). In the canon of the movie series, however, it is a real name, his full legal name is Biff Howard Tannen.

Hey did anyone notice that George is left-handed? A lot of left-handed kids were forced to use their right hands growing up, and that's part of why George is so awkward. Then, while his right hand wasn't available, he punched Biff with his left hand, and it was that moment, when he decided he was going to stop pretending to be right-handed, that's why he looks at his hand like that before reaching out to Lorraine. Also, any time I make a comment about this, some people respond saying "that's not true, people didn't force kids to use the wrong hand in the 50s", and a whole lot of other folks respond with stories of how yeah that literally happened to them or their parents.

Marty was trapped in a Time Loop. Doc arranged the entire thing from the beginning. He knew when he drove Marty home that the ten minute early return on the digital readout meant that return would trap Marty unless Doc fixed it more each time. Doc is aware in the entire film.

28:46 Biff is an American boy's name that means "to hit". It comes from the English word "biff", which means "punch, hit, strike". The quintessential midcentury nickname, famously found in Arthur Miller's play "Death of a Salesman." Biff is late 19th century slang meaning to "hit", so Biff may have originated as a nickname for a tough guy. Biff can also be short for Buford, which is Biff's full name in the movie.

Spent entire afternoons watching and rewatching this and Ghostbusters, Berverly Hills Cop, The Goonies, Rocky IV, Terminator and a whole bunch of other 80's classic. BttF part 2 was our favorite of the trilogy. Crazy to look back at it now and see how we saw the future back than and how different today is from that vision we had.
